I love any historical fiction that is well written!
I love this series by Sam Burnell, the characters have become so familiar they are like friends I am anxious for the next book due out in Aug. and Sam should give it to me for my loyalty.
A fun read
As long as you dont mistake it for history a very good, even great, read. Delve into the real history either before or after …
A Queen’s Traitor was a refreshing and unique perspective on English history and the snake pit of royal reign. It was a fun read with good insight into the twisted impact of twisted families and politics. I enjoyed the read and reflected on the principles and values displayed. Worth reading.
This may be considered historical fiction but the book is not centered on the royal court but on a pair of brothers and their misadventures. The main characters are interesting and believable; their relationship with one another is fairly typical of siblings even though they were not raised as such. I enjoyed reading about their adventures so much that I immediately got the next book as soon as I finished this one!
each book in the series has left me wanting more.
Couldn’t put it down
I love this whole series, and can’t wait for the 5th book in the series to come out.
I had never heard of this happening in the life of QE1 but found it interesting.
The characters are engaging and there is enough action to keep my interest
Great use of Princess Elizabeth I and Queen Mary
I enjoyed each book in the series. The difficulty now is waiting for I hope the end of the series this spring 2019.
This novel is a period drama set in the years after the death of Henry VIII, when his daughters Mary (to become Queen of Scots) and Elizabeth were vying for the throne. The male and female characters were well developed and interesting. The leading characters, brothers Richard and Jack were particularly rich and nuanced in in character. I appreciated that Lizbet, a minor female character who comes into the novel about a third of the way through, was also given sufficient attention to develop some personality. Fast paced while taking enough time for the details. My only regret is that the novel is obviously part of a longer series so I missed a little background not having read the earlier piece and am left hanging wishing I could read the other novels. If the whole series is as good as this installment, it would definitely bean entertaining vacation read.
The queen before Elizabeth I. The setting in England is under Mary’s reign, a time history tends to skip. Fascinating reading and terrific writing in this series.
The brothers are separated and then reunited in action that tests Jack’s trust of his brother.
A great adventure set in Tudor times between the death of Henry Viii and Elisabeth I. The brothers Jack and Richard are involved with political intrigue while developing a bond of trust that overcomes class, religion, unscrupulous lawyer, and a murderous family. The description of being thrown in the Marshalsea, the debtors prison was especially riveting. A ripping good yarn.
I’m in the midst of reading all of the books in this series. These books are different from other books I’ve read about this time period. The author has interesting characters dealing with familiar historical situations in unique but believable adventurous ways. I find myself googling people and places as I read, to provide even more context. I do hope the author keeps these protagonists going in many more books!!
The struggle for the British throne between Princess Elizabeth and Mary, Queen of Scots. The rivalry, and suspicion between the sisters is the backdrop of this book. Add to that the brothers who are spies for — just which sister are they !oyal to, again? All the intrigue makes this a very readable story.
Great historical read – different perspective
I can get through almost anything, but I couldn’t finish this.
