Wonderfully written book abut this time period. Author develops the character as the tale plays out and even at the end of the story, one is discovering more about each character.
Enjoyable read.
I didnt know where it was going and it ended with a surprise package!
Historical fiction that aligns well with history books. Characters are very human, both good and evil.
i didn’t much care for this book, but it isn’t bad, i guess
Believable intrigue and complex strategies in trying to deal with the historical political climate. I rated it one star lower because the lack of a good proof read diminished my enjoyment of a well crafted story.
This was a difficult review. For me the author has tried jump on the “band wagon” and legitimize their work by adding an “editor” who is also a published author. Over recent years I have seen this as a rising trend. In this case the addition of an editor. which is supposed to add a tinge is superiority to the finished work has failed.
I became bored with spelling mistakes and errors that should never have got beyond an editors desk. Broach and brooch, boarders and borders, and past and passed were some of the more notable examples, that added to a host of other errors on nearly every page ruined the read. JD Palmer is editor of A Queen’s Spy and appears to be a successful author in his own right, with a post apocalyptic sci-fi trilogy on Amazon, and has a leading role at the Artful Editor a US based editing firm. So the claim Burnell makes that this has been professionally edited do appear to be correct even if the evidence is very much to the contrary.

Writing is so complex that it kept putting me to sleep. I finally gave up trying to read it.
It didn’t catch my interest after three chapters so I stopped reading.
I didn’t make it very far in this before the stilted language, incompletely drawn characters, and lack of cohesion led me to delete the book.
Love historical fiction. Just started this series.
I did not care for the book
ug
Not well written; not enough background for the situations being played out in front to the reader. I found it frustrating and boring.
