Just because she’ll be alone this Christmas, is no reason for Beth Manning to feel sorry for herself. A busy nurse with plenty of friends, she knows she can keep occupied and have a good holiday. But when a tiny package containing an antique locket arrives, she tumbles into a century-old mystery. Is it intended for her, or for a relation of the same name, who lived four generations ago? Why does … does the image of the young soldier, inside, tug so hard at her heartstrings?
When Tommy Rafferty accompanies his injured friend to the hospital, he’s not thinking about romance. Yet as soon as he meets nurse Beth, his heart gets its own ideas. He’s sure he wants to see her again. But what a strange coincidence, that the tiny package he found and mailed just days ago, while cleaning out a relative’s property should have been addressed to this woman he’s just met. And what about the dreams of past battles he’s been having, that hint at promises and sacrifice?
Is it possible for two lovers parted a century ago to be reunited in time for Christmas? In the blossoming of a new love, will an old promise be kept?

Another gem from multi-talented Laura Strickland. Beth is a little down to be spending her Christmas without family and at work.
Beth and Thomas meet when Thomas’ friend injures himself in a construction accident and Beth is the ER nurse who tends to his friend. Their connection is instant. It’s almost like they’ve met before. Have they? I couldn’t put down this well written sweet holiday love story with a hint of magic until I’d finished it.
I’ll read anything this author writes.
Confusing Set-Up But Good Story
I feel a little confused by this title. The subtitle states that this is an anthology, but when I look at the table of contents on Amazon, I only see one story by one author. Indeed, on the book page itself, only one author is shown. The top review mentioned that this was an anthology with stories by three writers, but I didn’t see any evidence of that on the book page or in the book itself.
Okay, on to the story. In general, I thought this short story was well written. While there is a bit of a data dump at the beginning, at least it is done somewhat artfully. I thought that the historical letter was beautifully written. I enjoyed the little mystery at the core of the story and the ties that go forward and back in time. The main characters are believable and relatable, and I thought the scope of the story fit the length of it. A well-done, quick read.
I received a free copy of this story, but that did not affect my review.
I love romance novels, I love history, It’s even better when there’s a great story behind it with characters that are real, imperfect and relatable. Beth and Tommy are two people just getting through life as single people. A long ago undelivered Christmas present brings them together in a most unique way. Very easy and enjoyable, clean read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Finding a locket with a picture of a man that sets her mind thinking….do I know him? Beth having to work around Christmas time, is now set on a mission to locate why she feels a familiarity of the person in the locket, who’s it is and where this story is going…..a must read story!

A well written story of two people who are brought together when he takes his friend to the hospital. Tommy Rafferty had found package in his uncles things when he was cleaning up and took a chance and mailed it to Elizabeth/ Beth Manning. Then the feelings and dreams start happening for them both. This story had me reaching for a Kleenex as I read, what a story! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a really great book. This was a first for me for this author and I was not disappointed. The book is really well written. I definitely recommend reading.

One very beautiful collection.
Three authors have joined together to bring the reader one very beautiful collection. All the stories center on the finding of a locket during Christmas. Joyce McCarthy, Lexie Stewart, and, Laura Strickland have given us a real treat. The Heirloom has a young man finding his Uncle’s diary and a locket. Locket of Love is about Mary a junk shop, a gentle giant and a golden locket. Laura Strickland offering A Promise Kept is the arc I received and the one I will be reviewing.
A Promise Kept by Laura Strickland
This short story will touch your heart from the past to the present the author has taken the reader on a wonderful journey. Beth is alone it is Christmas time she has friends true and her work as a nurse yet still in the background is the fact she is alone. Then a mystery drops into her lap center on an antique locket she receives. Inside is an old fashion picture of a young man that seems familiar. With a touch of magic this tale is woven can the past be lived again is it possible that lost loves can find each other in the future? This one brought a tear to my eye it was a true love story that proved that love lasts forever.
Pick this anthology up it has well-written stories that will give your heart such a warm feeling. They are stories you will want to revisit over and over again. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A Promise Kept – This is my first read by this author and I like this short story.
Their great-great-relatives began a romance that The Great War delayed.
They meet one hundred years later. Interesting storylines with good characters set during the week of Christmas. Magical. Intriguing.
I found this book on Booksprout. 4*
