NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Kathryn Shay uses her emotional, gut wrenching writing and her vast experience as a high school teacher to create a plot which tackles passion, romance, a sexual predator, infidelity and the enduring power of love.
Nick and Callie Muscato have been lovers since high school. They married at eighteen and Callie gave up Vassar to go on the road with Nick as he … Nick as he builds his major league baseball career. Once he becomes a superstar, their perfect life is marred by their inability to have children. And then a miracle happens and they adopt twin boys.
Eventually Nick is forced to give up his baseball career, gets his college degree and when the story opens, both he and Callie are teaching at their Alma Mater. Then tragedy strikes them with two major blows: Callie confesses she’s pregnant with another man’s child and, only an hour later, Nick is accused of sexual misconduct with a female student. He is suspended from teaching until hearings can be held.
Though this stress might split up a lesser couple, Nick and Callie fight the accusation and try to keep their marriage together.

Reader Reviews of A PRICE WORTH PAYING:
“I started the book well after midnight…almost didn’t sleep… and woke only to continue reading and finished it out in one fell swoop.”
“It was so refreshing to read a book about an imperfect couple who have been married a long time with big problems in their relationship but a determination to save the marriage.”
“Overall a good read. Subject matter was very serious, but done very well. It also had enough of a mystery going on that it keeps the reader engaged.”
“This has been by far one of the best books I have read in a while!”

All I can say about this book is wow!!. It has everything in it romance, suspense and reality. I really enjoyed it.
Good read.
Not realistic
Although I can’t agree with all the turns the book takes because I can’t believe they would happen in real life, I enjoyed reading the book. It does have a happy ending which I like. I don’t like when books end tragically because then I’m sad for having read it.
Her books are absolutely wonderful!
Loved it. Great read.
Loved It
Callie & Nick have had their ups & downs in their relationship. They started dating in high school, then he played ball & while she went to college. They ended up adopting their boys because he had infertility problems. Now the boys are in college and their has been break again. But now he is being accused of sexual misconduct with a student, and she she is pregnant with someone else’s baby. Can they pull through this time.
I pretty much enjoy anything related to baseball. Since Nick is a former pro baseball player, I was interested to start. The story line between Nick, wife Callie, and former admirer Lew is tangled and very interesting. When Callie confesses to having had a night with former boyfriend, Nick wants her gone. However, when Nick is accused of sexually molesting a student the book gets great! Callie stays by his side and there are many twists and turns to get to the happy ending. I loved the family drama with the twins in college and parents having all this drama. Some things I won’t give away, but I truly loved meeting this family!
I loved this book. The characters were real to me. The story was fast moving. I’ve loved all the books this author has written. I recommend this book.
The content of this book with the story of Callie and Nick was hard to read but I couldn’t put it down.
Great story. Relatable story line. Highly recommend this read.
Such a pleasure to read Kathryn Shay. I’m always hooked from the beginning!
What a well written book on the ups and downs of a challenging marital life. An emotional read about love, forgiveness, redemption and acceptance. A captivating page turner indeed. Thank you Kathryn.
I couldn’t put this book down. Such a heart wrenching story.
Loved the book. Realistic. Good ending.
I adore Kathryn Shays writing
She never misses.
I enjoyed this one a lot! The many characters were all flawed, but most had balancing redeeming qualities. Just when I was sure I had it figured out something else would happen to make me question whether I did, it kept me guessing. Unfortunately, these things actually happen in real life, not always with happy endings.
Excellent
Wow! An emotional rollercoaster read filled with so many upheavals and sad revelations.
Difficult for an innocent man and family as well to be subjected to such heart wrenching circumstances along with his wife’s indiscretion and resulting pregnancy.
Kathryn Shay always writes winners!
