So this is another f**ktn of gratuitous boning with the Venery boys. That’s it, that’s the blurb. If you’re new here, you’ve been warned. This is pure, shameless fluff. It doesn’t fit anywhere or take the place of anything in the Venery novels. It just is what it is.The bathroom was steamy and dark, a lit candle on the edge of the sink. Jav lolled in the tub, his hair slicked back. Stef brought … slicked back. Stef brought in more candles and poured out two shots of rum to chug, then more generous tots to sip. He sat on the bathmat and read out loud. Jav rested an arm on the ledge of the tub, cheek on his bicep, damp fingers playing with a fold of Stef’s shirt. The walls of the little room drew close. Even the fixtures seemed to lean on their elbows and listen.
“This is nice,” Jav said softly, drawing up Stef’s neck and behind his ear.
For people who like this sort of thing, this is the sort of thing they will like. Contains adults being nice to each other in adult situations using adult language.

I love that Laqueur makes no apologies for this collection. Extra scenes that involve her men of Venery, oft-times in the throes of passion or leading up to erotica like only the author can write. But there is still that matter of the heart where these intensely sexy men are concerned, giving it that realness that I have come to both expect and adore with these stories.
A true decadent treat that made a gloomy afternoon that much brighter.
A Plump of Woodcocks indeed.
5 stars!
This book could basically be called ‘Scenes I’d love to see’ .The boys from the Venery series, how we’ve missed them. Tej & Jude, Jav and Flip, Ah bless, what might have been, and above all Jav and Stef. Somewhere in the midst of all the sexy times Suanne still managed to give us a kick to the chest, I was not expecting a hit on my emotions with this one but there you go! A side dish of lust, filled with love and emotion.
If you have read the synopsis for A Plump of Woodcocks, you know exactly what you are in for when you open this novella to read it. Suanne Laqueur has written a no-holds-barred look into the intimate lives of her Men from the Venery Series. It is bold, unfiltered, and exquisite.
Even if you have not met Jude, Tej, Jav, or Stef, this novella is still completely comprehensible and enjoyable. It is a feast for the senses that commands you to go back and meet each of these amazing men. This brief glimpse into their lives lets you know the journeys they have taken to connect with each other were complex and unforgettable.
Suanne Laqueur has written an erotic masterpiece that highlights several levels of intimacy. Her words constantly remind the reader that the strong emotional, mental, and spiritual bonds these couples share supersedes and enhances their physical connection. Their connection all levels is what fuels and drives the beauty of their love and devotion to each other.
A Plump of Woodcocks is a lesson in what love truly is. It is a beautifully written work art that will leave you wanting to read or reread the Venery Series in its entirety.
Is it possible to miss Fictional people like they’re REAL?
#AskingForMe!
I’ve actually craved the Venery Boys like an obsessed stalker. I wanted to be with them like a voyeur in the room, thankfully Suanne decided to throw us some scraps from her writing table and I’m right there to catch them before they hit the ground.
I’ve fallen in love with ALL the couples in the series. Since I read it backwards and out of sequence, the first ones I met was Tej & Juleon (Jude)
“It’s Westling,” Jude said. “His Royal Highness Daniel Westling.”
I swoon over this nerdy, bespectacled guy and I stewed prunes Just For Him and I’m SOOOOOOO envious Tej gets to touch him and crook his finger at him
“Come in. Come in more. All the way in. More. Further. Deeper. ”
The next outtake is from my most fave couple- Stefan Finch and Javier
What did I tell her “Be nice to me?”
But does she listen?….Nooooo
And she posts a disclaimer saying I DON’T KNOW
Then WHO knows Susan?…I mean Suanne?
My heart just dropped to my toes,I swear
Another interesting snippet was about a What If scenario
“How many people are walking around with the wrong mate because of a tragedy?
How many are walking around with the right mate for the same reason?”
And then I couldn’t sleep at night thinking about it…who am I with?!
Well Suanne, the scraps aren’t enough to whet my appetite, they’re like Amuse-Bouche.
I need more!!!
5 stars for Business finished. Stories continued. Life uninterrupted
I’ll never get tired of the characters from the Venery universe. NEVER! The author says that writing these characters feels like home. Well Suanne Laqueur’s writing and storytelling feels like home to ME.
Whenever I start a book of hers I get swept up in the emotions that are pouring out from each and every word. Her writing is effortless to me. I’m back with my people immediately. This time it’s a collection of deleted scenes from her recent release A Scarcity of Condors and A Charm of Finches. The blurb says there’s a fucktn of gratuitous boning. I’m all for it but it’s so much more than boning. The love between these characters makes the boning more intimate and vulnerable. Suanne Laqueur is a master of writing witty and clever dialogue that makes the characters feel real and relatable to me. Makes me want to just stay in their world forever.
Jude, Tej, Stef and Jav are proof of that. A Plump of Woodcocks is a perfect addition to the Venery scenes.
5 Home Stars
A short and ooh-so sexy offering from the author of the Venery series, catching up with guys in all their glory was more than fulfilling. I’ll let you decide for yourselves whether my not so subtle pun is fitting. Diving into Jude, Jav, Stef and friends’ with benefits lives to find out what goes on behind closed doors aroused feelings of excitement. Not surprising since Laqueur’s words in A Plump of Woodcocks are beyond titillating. Gasps of delight and a blush or three she certainly got out of me! And I’d even go as far to say that this read bursting with steaminess not only beat the book slump, but also brought on the smiles and heartfelt sighs. Honestly, there were moments when I was really in a hot pickle.
“I love your body. I’ll never look at you and not get turned on.
“Even when I’m being a moron?”
The one-sentence blurb has to be the shortest I’ve ever read. And I totally loved it. Since there’s no room to let on, our curiosity is piqued and more often than not, we succumb to the temptation. However, before you dive in, I do recommend reading the Venery series first. Not in the mood? No worries ‘cause once you’ve had a taste of what’s what, you’ll most likely be itching to find out what all the noise is about. And believe you me, this series with all the feels is truly read-worthy.
“This isn’t a spontaneous, in the moment thing. This has a past. And a present. And a future.”
Plumb…woodcocks…the title—perfect for this series which rolls within the family saga, lacking the nailbiting sit on the edge of your seat drama I’d read in previous books. But don’t me wrong. A Scarcity of Condors was one of my fave 2019 reads. The cover. I’m not awfully keen on it but I can’t argue that it’s apt. Suanne let me have a peek into her most inner-thoughts and wowed my pants off in the process! This novella is a special treat, albeit for my liking and please don’t judge me, I could have read a lot more where this came from.
‘Take my secrets, take my treasures, take my words and my soul. Take me into your merciful heart and take everything I have. ’
The Spanish phrases. Spot on here! It’s my second language and if there’s one thing that irritates me more is poor translation. The author’s cool introduction, her prose and the flowing dialogue captured my attention from the word go and as her musings unfolded, showed me how the characters felt in a third-person narrative, too. To sum up, categorising A Plump Of Woodcocks as smut fiction is way off the mark. It’s just pure and utter gorgeousness. Bravo, Laqueur!
