A Pledge of Passion to the Highlander brings you through a dark and turbelent time in Scotland and England. It’s an unforgettable Highland romance with a strong plot that brings this read together perfectly. With a magnificent cast of characters who all have wonderful personalities and they become very endearing as the story progresses. But, with every good romance there must be a villain, and Maddie MacKenna has created a dastardly villains. It’s one of those love stories that you have a difficult time putting down! I was totally swept away with the sigh-worthy romance of Domhnall and Roseann. A heart pounding story with Delicious Sizzling Passion, plenty of drama, suspense, deceit, trials and tribulations, and the gamut of emotions from despair and grief to joy and ecstasy that makes this one an outstanding read that you won’t want to miss!
This is a definite page turner. A medieval highland romance in the mist of terror and destruction. There is drama, suspense, tension, fear, desperation, gutless horror, death and the birth of young love. There are realistic emotions and feelings throughout the book. One cannot help but empathize and feel the fear and joy of the Highland people. The heroine, Roseann, is a brave innocent young lady. She is educated beyond what a normal female would be because of her father beliefs. She is brave, sympathetic, kind, compassionate and caring. Her selfless loyalty and love for her family causes her to face danger and venture into the unknown to help her family. She has the strength of character to adjust her prejudice against the Highlanders when she learns the type of people they really are. She has the type of personality that values people and in turn they respond to her in kindness. Our hero, Domnhall, is a great leader. He is a good and fair Laird. He takes his position to heart as his father before him. He daily visits the villages and the people on his land to ensure their wellbeing and to settle any minor disputes. When Roseann enters his life, she shows him a side of friendship and love of family he had been neglecting. He is determined to do better. Although at times his temper flares, he is secure enough in his manhood to see the errors of his ways and adjusts accordingly. He is not beneath asking for forgiveness and understanding. He truly wants what is good for his people, his family and for himself. His clan faces an evil threat. A rogue English commander and his army of deserters have been pillaging, slaughtering and burning down whole villages on his lands. They kill indiscriminately the men, children and babes saving the women to be treated as whores at their camp. As much as he loves Roseann and she him, in order to save his people, he must ask for the help of a neighboring clan who has pledged assistance but only if he marries the daughter of said laird. This is the beginning of secrets, falsehoods, betrayal, treason, lies and manipulation. An exciting story of life and death, sacrifice of one’s self for the good of all and a love that is tested beyond all reason. A must read. I highly recommend it.
