Henna Lane is an artsy free spirited 18 yr. old girl who lives in Colorado. She has a colorful life and personality, and is known to be unpredictable and spontaneous, so when she meets a gorgeous guy named Bodhi at a music festival she decides they could be great together even if only for a few days. She knows it’s temporary, but when sparks fly you have to pay attention. When they touch it’s electric, exciting, and undescribable. Their chemistry is magnetic, and they feel limitless when together. It’s natural and easy between them, and neither want their time to come to an end.
Bodhi meets Henna and she’s like a sexy goddess from the seventies made just for him. He’s blinded by her light and in one day she makes a permanent mark on him. She’s a stunning glimpse of a life he could have had. She makes him feel alive, and they share a weekend immersed in music and each other. They both feel something extremely powerful and life changing. Bodhi knows she will forever own a piece of his heart. They fall hard and fast, and then abruptly part ways only to eventually cross paths again. This is where their story takes an unexpected twist, and they have to decide if what they feel is worth fighting for.
Jewel E. Ann always writes books that are unique, beautiful, and speak to the heart. This story is emotional, messy, complicated, and full of tragedy, obstacles, and angst. This couples road to love isn’t easy, and is plagued with impossible decisions and circumstances. It’s a second chance forbidden romance that is fantastic and unforgettable. I loved Henna+Bodhi so much!
I need more than 5 starts! First- Alice, I love the name of the car. I think is damn clever and I can understand the meaning behind it. This author has a way of making the personalities of each character burst out of the page with how unique they are. Non is the same as the other. That is what I love, that is what makes you fall in love with these characters. By the first and second chapter I was hooked. You will be too.
You will instantly love Henna with her full of life spirit. She is trouble but the kind of trouble Bodhi doesn’t want to resist. Loving Bodhi is unavoidable. You will need for him to have more, to catch a break, to have a chance to put himself and his needs first. If not, there is no way that you will feel like things are right in the world. That’s what this story does, it immerses you in it to the point where for you to be happy, these characters need to be happy. Because you get invested.
But this is also one of those stories that you can feel in your bones from the very beginning that trouble is coming. I have a wave of emotions hitting me from all angles. From love to sadness, to disappointment… You feel conflicted because you love Henna’s view on life but you still have the need to support Bodhi’s decisions and cautiousness. That is one major thing about this author, the feelings and the moods just pop from the pages to grab you.
I loved every feeling this book woke up in me. Even more so because it did it without everything being a picture perfect situation with them. Almost nothing is. In this book and in real life. When I got to the last page I just felt cleansed. Nothing better!
A PLACE WITHOUT YOU by Jewel E Ann is a contemporary, new adult, stand alone romance story line focusing on Henna Lane, and Bodhi Malone.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Henna and Bodhi) A PLACE WITHOUT YOU follows four years in the life of Henna Lane, and Bodhi Malone, two strangers who met a Coachella, but two strangers whose lives will be interlaced for all eternity. At eighteen years of age, our heroine fell in love with a stranger who would quickly become her guidance counsellor as Henna required one more year to complete her high school diploma. Having suffered horrific injuries in an accident two years earlier, Henna struggled with continuing pain, and the need to explore and discover at every opportunity. A close call at school finds Henna on the outside looking in when Bodhi is forced to push Henna out of his life. Fast forward two years wherein Henna will travel the world in an effort to uncover the who and what of Henna Lane. Upon her return Henna will come face to face with her past, the man who continues to star in all of her dreams, and the man who hasn’t stopped loving our story line heroine. What ensues is the growing relationship between Bodhi and Henna, and the fall-out as Henna’s confession pushes Bodhi out of her life, once again.
A PLACE WITHOUT YOU is a story of forbidden love; a student-teacher relationship that turns into something more but something that will be damaged by heart breaking loss, and personal shame. A story of family, friendship, life and death, hatred and loss, the couple that is ‘Henna and Bodhi, Bodhi and Henna’ must endure a series of storms that are difficult and exhausting, heavy and sad.
The product of an unconventional upbringing, our heroine is wiser than her years, but younger than her age; a selfish, sometimes immature young woman who lives life on the edge, an edge she has narrowly escaped on more than one occasion . Bodhi Malone is a man unable to move forward as the sins of his past are a constant reminder of what was, what happened, and what will never be. Meeting Henna Lane found our hero falling for the forbidden fruit; an addiction that would threaten everything and more.
A PLACE WITHOUT YOU is an emotional story line about two damaged souls who struggle to make their place in the world, a place that is lonely without the one that they love.
I loved this book! A Place Without You was a fun and flirty, but also beautiful and heart-wrenching tale about second chances at life and about knowing when to fight and knowing when to let go… and Jewel couldn’t have written it any better than she did. Her beautiful and inspirational words consumed me from beginning to end. I laughed, I cried and I swooned. She always puts so much personality in her writing and pours it into her characters where you can’t help but adore them and root for their HEA from the get-go.
Henna was adorable and I just loved her. She was a fearless and vibrant little firecracker. She’s a take no shit kind of girl but also had a heart of gold. Bodhi was a tortured hero guilted by tragedy and completely enamored by Henna and her zest for life. When these two first meet at Coachella, they are only Henna and Bodhi, two strangers who meet through a force of gravity that defies logic and laws. Fate had brought these two together and wasn’t letting them go so easily. So when their chance meeting is cut short, only to be brought back together months later, their love turns forbidden and they must make an impossible decision.
The love affair between Henna and Bodhi slowly tortured me with all the turmoil and the ups and downs they faced, but these two were such a magnetic force and had such an intense chemistry that had me on the edge of my seat just waiting for them to get a break in life to find their happily ever after. Every time things got good between them, they ended up having to make even more impossible decisions…but like I said, fate wasn’t giving up on them.
Jewel E. Ann took me on an angsty, beautiful and heartbreaking rollercoaster of emotions that won’t let me forget these characters and their story any time soon. This book is definitely worthy of 5 stars!
EXTRAORDINARY!!! HEART-WRENCHINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! It deserves more than 5 stars!
This book, for me, was just WOW! It truly and completely moved me. It was an incredible story of love. It made me cry and it broke my heart and I absolutely loved every single word.
Sometimes we need to break to be made whole. And Bodhi and Henna’s love…it was worth EVERYTHING!
Two things that really hit home and I will keep with me:
1. Life is about truly LIVING. So LIVE! We don’t get a second shot at life. Make it count!
2. When you truly love someone. Completely, unconditionally, with everything that you are…you set them free!
Bodhi and Henna’s love for eachother was infinite. No matter the obstacle; neither time nor distance could stop the connection they had. An epic kind of love.
Read this book!!!! A top read of ALL TIME for me! One I will NEVER FORGET
Phew…. This was a toughie to get through especially because of all the emotions and a certain topic I won’t spoil. Once again Jewel E. Ann delivers a story with characters that makes me feel and think about while reading and once I’m finished.
Henna & Bodhi. Bodhi & Henna. Wow. These two made my skin tingle. Right off the bat their chemistry was palpable and intoxicating. They meet in a cab on their way to a music festival and sparks fly. I was completely entranced with them. They both come with baggage and making a relationship work isn’t easy even though it feels like it. In their own bubble everything is right and easy but it all comes tumbling down when the “real” world sets in once they get home.
I enjoyed Henna and Bodhi. Two flawed characters with so much heart. Together they feel invincible but Bodhi doesn’t feel worthy of Henna. It’s a difficult journey filled with love, loss and acceptance. They both love so fiercely and sacrifices a lot because of it.
A Place Without You delivers all the feels and a story with controversial topic. I can’t point out enough how much these two characters moved me. Not only with how strongly they love but by their actions as well. I could easily relate to both of them and their predicament they were in.
Jewel E. Ann is master storyteller. I’m challenged and never disappointed. That’s why she’s a unicorn author of mine.

A Place Without You was an amazing story but man it had me so damn anxious from the very beginning. It put me through the emotional wringer and I loved every minute of it. It was the perfect blend of forbidden, taboo and a host of other things that i won’t mention because I don’t want to spoil it for others. It’s very immersive and an enjoyable story that I recommend.

What a fantastic book this is! This author knows how to get readers invested in her stories and I read most of it chuckling to myself and grinning from ear to ear. It’s clear from the start that Henna and Bodhi were made for each other. Their smouldering chemistry is electric and the sparks fair fly off the page from their first meeting. I’ve got to say, their make out sessions were so hot, they had me fanning myself. They are equally matched in relation to the wit and flirty banter, although Henna is clearly in the driving seat when it comes to her pursuit of Bodhi and I was right there rooting for her.
There was a warmth to Henna that just drew me to her and I can honestly say I loved everything about her. She’s a fantastic young woman, a force of nature, a free spirit, with a lust for life and adventure. Strong, yet a touch vulnerable at times, she has developed coping strategies to help her deal with the realities of life which make her sassy and forthright, if not a little fatalistic. I found her hugely endearing. Bodhi is a little damaged but not completely broken, despite carrying some burdens of his own. His time with Henna allows him to breathe and during those moments we have an unobstructed view of the real man behind the responsibilities. I, for one, loved what I saw.
Their path, of course, is not a straightforward one and it wouldn’t be a Jewel E. Ann book without there being some challenges along the way. It’s one of the many things I applaud her for. When things take a more serious turn for this couple, and Henna finds herself between a rock and a hard place, once again this author deals with the subject matter in a respectful, not a sensational way, whilst we as readers are left in no doubt as to the emotional toll this takes on all concerned.
This author’s stories are so multifaceted, you always need to prepare for the unexpected. A Place Without You is no exception. I admire the way Jewel never shies away from difficult subjects and is always prepared to give her characters a voice. They are allowed free reign to be who they need to be, flaws and all, to grow and mature in ways which are real and relatable. Bodhi and Henna’s story is hugely engaging, deliciously sensual, full of personality, sprinkled liberally with clever phrasing and the kind of humour that keeps the quirky side of me thoroughly entertained.
Real emotions, a rainbow of emotions in fact, real dilemmas and decisions make this a wonderful, thought provoking read.
So emotional, So rich, so epic…A Place Without You was filled to the very top with some very high angst and a love so sensational, it was easy to get swept away on this newest read from Jewel E. Ann!
The start of the New Year seems to be a fantastic one. Miss Jewel E. Ann wrote a story that really roared into my heart like a tsunami. Bodhi and Henna are superb characters. They are beyond likable and their romance took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. There was some painful moments that made me want to bawl and some heart melting moments that made butterflies take flight within me. It was beautiful and enchanting and 100% engrossing! What a read!
A Place Without You gets a SUPERB FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
