A Place Without You is a tidal wave of emotions set on a continuous loop. I didn’t ugly cry but I had misty eyes through much of the book. I attribute the absence of the “ugly cry” to knowing that author Jewel E. Ann writes stories that tear your beating heart from your chest before she kindly patches it up with an amazingly appropriate ending.
Henna and Bodhi define yin-yang love. They could have been a nice Coachella memory if fate didn’t keep bringing them together (well, fate and Henna’s tenacity). These two characters are fabulous from the start. They are flawed. They have baggage. They are fierce and fragile in their own ways. They captured my heart and dragged me along for their crazy finding themselves and finding love journey. Is it true that if you let true love go, it will come back to you? Or, if you let the love of your life go to follow their dream, will they find bliss elsewhere?
At first, I had some trepidation about the story; I’m really not a fan of the teacher/under-aged student taboo lust story. However, our heroine, Henna, is not under-aged, and the author has carefully and very tastefully written this story such that it is impossible to not root for the characters to find a way to be happy together. Jewel E. Ann’s character development and storytelling is nothing short of masterful. Even when I’m not sure about the story premise, the author’s talent as a writer always wins me over.
A Place Without You is a story that sticks with you. It left me with a gigantic book-hangover; I simply can’t stop thinking about this book; yet, I also can’t come up with words that really conveyed how this book affected me. I can only say that it is such a moving and amazingly sweet story that I know with confidence will remain my top read for 2019.
This book was amazing! I don’t think that every character in a book you fall in love with, but this one I did. I loved Henna’s ability to just love life. I loved Bohdi because even when he felt he shouldn’t love her he did. I fell in love with His father. It is hard to go through an illness. It just becomes overwhelmingly hard. I loved her parents! This book is just so thoughtfully written. This author can turn words into feelings that hit you right in the gut!
More perfection from this author; I adored it.
Forbidden perfection with all the feels you’ve come to expect from Jewel E. Ann.
The title, the characters, the love story–all of it is woven together so flawlessly you’ll want to re-read the book when it’s finished. Absolutely beautiful.
Did you ever experience a book high? It’s that feeling you get when a book is so phenomenal that it cements your love for reading? Books like A Place Without You are the reason I read. Jewel E. Ann is a master storyteller. I didn’t want this book to end. I’ll admit that I was petrified on how everything was going to play out. Bodhi & Henna’s journey was about self-discovery, mad crazy love, pain, and sacrifice. I’m not going to tell you anything else about this forbidden romance. You need to go in blind and experience it. I know I’m high on the feels after reading A Place Without You. When does this book release? January 2, 2019. Well, this is as good a time as any to start my best of 2019 book list. Henna Lane has been through HELL (see what I did there?) and back. Her life starts to look up when she meets a sexy stranger at Coachella that changes her life – Ketchup guy doesn’t see her coming!
Bodhi Malone has so much guilt and he carries it around with him like the weight of the world on his shoulders. He allows himself one weekend at Coachella a year to indulge in what could have been.
This book notions on Henna being on a high – whether it being actually high, high on love/life, or just plain high on the moment. This whole book is a high – It’s a vibe.
Henna and Bodhi are MAGNETIC, they’re simply just more.
“ . . ℎ .”
Their story takes so many unexpected turns.
I never thought forbidden romance could break my heart. But, it is so much more than age gap and forbidden. It’s about finding yourself even when you don’t feel like you’re able to. When you’ve been at your lowest low and you need to find the strength to keep going. It’s about fate, about falling in love and letting go.
Henna needed someone who wouldn’t clip her wings. And although she couldn’t bear to be without him, he couldn’t be the reason she held back.

This book is not just a love story though, and that’s where my heart, after being RIPPED out, got absolutely STOMPED on.

So famous last words:
Here, read this book. It WRECKED me.
Please, just read it.

“A Place Without You” is my first book by Jewel E Ann and I hope I can read or listen to more books.
At the beginning I wasn’t liking the “Best Friend” mom. Don’t get me wrong but our mom’s are not our friends at schools that you talk about your sex life or how you will lose your virginity. This is probably the part I didn’t like so much or how much pot she smoked to relieve backache.
I loved Henna and Bodhi story. The way both loved each other was beautiful to read. I was a little sad when Henna chose to disbelief how Bodhi love her so much and she saw the big mistake she made, but apart from that I think both of them forgive themselves.
The last chapters killed my heart so much. I was so sad for Bodhi.
The epilogue was my favorite part and my god I was so happy for Henna and Bodhi.
I never thought I would find a Jewel E. Ann book that I did not absolutely devour and consume within hours. Don’t get me wrong, this was filled to the brim with Jewel’s wonderful insightful writing. I highlighted multiple passages with her descriptive writing because they spoke to my soul. However, this one just didn’t speak to me the entire time like most of her books do. From the start, it had the feel of “insta-love” which I don’t enjoy so I was instantly turned off but continued reading because it’s JEA. Even though this wasn’t my favorite read, it is still JEA and she is an amazing writer.
“Timing guides our lives more than love. Love is just an emotion – timing is our destiny. Missed opportunities. Serendipity. Fate…it’s all about timing, not love.”
“You don’t realize how much you miss someone until you’re with them after a long time apart and your hear can finally beat again”
“Should have is the most unproductive phrase in the English language”
This was a very unique story with some interesting characters. I would also classify this as somewhat dark with the back story of both of these characters. Henna has a privileged life with chronic pain whereas Bodhi had a normal upbringing meshed with some difficult adult decisions.

5 amazing stars!
Wow, Jewel E. Ann! I am making my way through this author’s back-catalogue, and she is quickly becoming a fave. Her stories are raw and emotional, real and unexpected, and she writes the best characters. And OMG, I adored everything about this book. It made me think and it make me feel, and it completely captured my heart. Just an amazing read, and I absolutely loved it
Henna and Bodhi… Bodhi and Henna… what can I possibly say about these two to convey my absolute, all-consuming love of them and their story? They meet at Coachella and over laughs, conversation, flirting and banter, they fall in to soul-deep, raw, intense and all-consuming love. They only have a few short days together before they return to real life, and it’s then that they learn that Bodhi is actually Mr Malone – the new guidance counsellor at Henna’s high school (she’s 18, and graduating late due to an accident that required a long recovery). It makes their love instantly forbidden, but neither of them can stay away, allowing their bond to deepen as they spend time together and become a part of each others’ everyday lives.
“Henna: Hi. Remember me?
Bodhi: Hi. I’m pretty sure you’re still my greatest memory.
This part of the story had my heart constantly pounding. The chemistry and the sexual tension is on freaking fire, and I was desperate for these two to find a way to be together. The angst had my stomach in knots, but I was loving every moment of it.
“Closing my eyes, my heart dances in this moment, not wishing for the next one. It’s not a destination, and it’s not even a journey. It’s a moment. Life is a moment. Who says we have to go anywhere in life to experience it?”
But even with all that they share, there are barriers in their way, and their love doesn’t go the way they want it to. They have to make heartbreaking decisions, leading to Henna following her dreams to travel the world, and even though I ached for them, their journey feels right. It was what was meant to be, it was what they needed, and it leads to even more epic when they are reunited – a little bit older, a little bit wiser, and still so very much in love.
“I missed you beyond words,” I whisper. His eyes open, looking a few shades darker blue beneath the curtain of my hair around us.
“You hated me.”
“Yes.” I drop soft kisses all over his face.
“But I loved you more.”
Henna has got to be one of my all-time fave heroines EVER. A spirited, spontaneous bohemian girl, she’s fantastic – confident, funny, sweet, loyal and loving, but with sarcasm, wit and a deliciously wicked sense of humour. She’s real and honest, and I love her outlook on life, and the journey that she goes through in this book is just amazing. And Bodhi is a beautiful hero. He’s smart and sensitive, sexy and funny, but he’s got a lot on his shoulders. His family life is incredibly difficult, and he’s carrying a lot of guilt from the past which influences almost every aspect of his life. But he’s open to Henna, embracing her and all that she comes to mean to him and together, they are a powerhouse – loving, honest and completely devoted, even with all that they go through. There’s never any doubt that they belong together, they know it, and the reader knows it, and I loved their bold, brave and open-hearted love for each other.
“The Law of Henna and Bodhi: When love breaks, fall inward, fall together, and fall hard. Then let time pick up the pieces.”
Theirs is a beautiful, amazing and strong love story, and a rare, beautifully epic love. But this book is so much more than a romance. It’s about life, about experiences, and about following your heart. It also deals with some serious themes – family, forgiveness, loss and healing. This book will make you question so many things, and I was mesmerised as Henna and Bodhi are faced again with an unimaginable situation that will test them like never before.
The feels are intense, and I sobbed watching it all happen, but OMG, what a journey! So much emotion, all of it beautifully written, and with such important messages. I read this book and felt inspired by these characters – to truly live my life, experiencing every day and cherishing every moment of it along the way, and I loved that it impacted me so strongly.
“Life is meant to be lived and not chased, raced, or saved for another day.”
This is such a special read. It’s a book to be experienced, and I loved losing myself in Henna and Bodhi’s amazing story. I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Kelsey Navarro and Stephen Dexter, and they present it so beautifully. I loved listening to this one, and look forward to many rereads in the future.
5 stars!
1 TRILLION BODI AND HENNA I HATE YOU BUT I LOVE YOU MORE STARS
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. WHAT A WAY TO START 2019!!!!!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it was one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read. The story is one that touches your soul!!!
Henna and Bodhi find the love of a lifetime when she is just 19 and it’s far from “temporary”, a love like theirs is forever.
I fell in love with her free spirit and her “wise beyond her age” words. She was a brilliant lead! And BODHI *swoons* he was everything!!!
He spends so much of his life not living and feeling guilty you can’t help but have a broken heart for him. This book brought me many tears, a lot of angst and so much love to my heart!! I absolutely positively loved everything about it!
The epilogue….PERFECTION!!!!!
I can’t say anymore because I’m still emotional but I urge your to read this because it is FANFREAKINTASTIC!!!
Angst
Cheating none
Sexy Time
Epilogue
PlotUnbelievable
Jewel E. Ann has obliterated my heart and pieced it back together with this book. I loved every single heart-wrenching word. Bodhi and Henna were perfect. The emotion and angst and heat of their relationship jumped off the pages me. This was my first book by Ann and I will definitely be reading the rest.
4.5 stars
This book is definitely going onto my all-time favourites shelf. The author has managed to get me in love with a subgenre that I usually avoid, not that this is exactly that, but the forbidden element is there.
Living with the guilt of his father’s predicament, Bodhi allows himself to indulge in a few moments of happiness with the mysterious girl that he meets at Coachella. Nothing much happens but life is always unpredictable and here starts a story about family, friends and what ones want from life. About a love that is lived just in the moment and how much following your heart will always be the way to live.
The chemistry is always there and the relationship between Henna and her mother is perfect.
What I didn’t like: Henna seemed like a total spoiled teenager at the beginning and a bit “I always get what I want and you can’t deny me”
Along the way, she changed and became a great character but I can’t get over that part.
I loved this book!
In true Jewel E Ann fashion this book broke my heart and then put it back together again. I was totally in love with Bodhi from the beginning. He is loyal, kind and an all around amazing man. Henna took a little bit to grow on me. She was just so young and free spirited but in the end she had gained an amazing amount of insight in life. Another book that will stay with me long after I am done. All the feels!
Just not my cup of tea.
“You’ll forget about me. Henna fades.”
It’s been a while since I’ve read this author, once again she has delivered an outstanding story. I was caught up in the wistful romance of these characters. Like a fresh breath of air, they blew in on a cool breeze on a warm sunny day. Bodhi and Henna fit together, planets aligned and brought them to each other for a reason. Just as quickly the tide came rolling in and drew them away from each other again.
Henna has such a unique philosophical outlook about everything life offers. It makes you want to press pause and basque in her inner beauty, scrutinise why you haven’t seen things the way she does. She’s outwardly brave and strong but is also vulnerable. Henna + Bodhi belong together, she loves him but he believes he doesn’t deserve her. She needs him to choose her and not keep her as his dirty little secret.
Bodhi helps run the family horseback riding business, but takes time out every year to work at Coachella a music festival. He meets a fiesta little red head with henna tattoos and he’s unable to get her out of his mind. Imagine his surprise when months later he looks up from his desk and she’s standing there. Whilst he’s totally infatuated with her he can’t risk his job. Henna is persistent though and she worms her way into the hearts of Bodhi and his father. Choices are never easy and sometimes we can see things clearer when we are a little removed from the situation. When Bodhi’s father asks for Henna’s help, she is torn because this will be the catalyst that makes Bodhi hate her.
Henna and Bodhi a chance meeting a forever love. The heart wrenching story of Henna and Bodhi brings so many feelings into your heart. The sweet love Bodhi has for this young wounded girl and the love and responsibility he feels for his father. The journey of their love for each other takes place over several years, takes your heart on a roller coaster ride. You will laugh and cry.
It is the story of undying love between Bodhi and Henna.
The Law of Henna and Bodhi: When love breaks, fall inward, fall together, and fall hard. Then let time pick up the pieces.”
I’ll never get tired of saying this, but THIS is my new favorite book by Jewel. Well it is in line for first place along with LOOK THE PART, if we’re going to get technical 😉
This the type of book I could read over and over and over and I would most likely take away something new from the storyline. This book was all about TIMING. You can have love, but if the timing isn’t right, it won’t work, but that’s not to say your time won’t happen eventually. You just need to wait for the RIGHT timing to come along. “Timing guides our lives more than love. Love is just an emotion–timing is our destiny. Serendipity. Fate…it’s all about timing, not love.”
I had a permanent smile etched on my face for the first part of this book and then there was a plot twist that had my heart plummeting. (Timing…remember how I mentioned that above? Yep, it’s all about timing!) Then as my heart was trying to figure out its new beat, ANOTHER plot twist happened that I didn’t anticipate. This twist had me giddy with excitement because if you know me at all, I LOVE forbidden and this is where that aspect came into play in the plot. Let’s just say, that permanent smile I had in the beginning? Well it returned full force but with a slight smirk. And along with that smirk, a sense of foreboding lingered in the back of my mind. Because this was a “cross that line and there’s no turning back” type of moment. AND. I. WAS. EXCITED. FOR. IT!
“No matter where I am on this earth, I’m loving you…forever.”
I can’t recommend this book, THIS author enough! If you’ve never read anything by Jewel, this would be a great place to start! This is a true representation of her writing.
5 stars
Henna and her dad go to a music festival every year it’s their thing. Unfortunately due to bad sushi he has to cancel, disappointed she attends alone. She meets Bodhi and they have an instant connection. Henna and Bodhi wow what a beautiful story.
She’s a beautiful soul and Bodhi has been dealt some unfortunate situation which were ultimately his fault, a lot of stupid decisions and bad timing. He’s stuck in a hell of his own doing. He’s convince he’s not meant to be happy or gets to live a good life. Henna is just the person to show him he’s wrong.
All the stars for this beautiful read! Jewel is a must-read author for me, so I’ve really been looking forward to A Place Without You. It was everything and more! I laughed, I cried, I swooned…. so, so hard. I loved this book! I just can’t say enough about Jewel’s incredible writing. Every book is just so amazing, and guarantees alllll the feels. Highly, highly recommend A Place Without You.
