While hiking the trails in nearby Santa Fe National Forest, Reverend Cici discovers the body of one of her parishioners and the wounds are identical to the ones that killed her twin sister a year ago. Is there a killer on the loose and is Cici’s life also in danger?
Cici finds herself somehow in the middle of all the drama when threatening warnings come her way and even her dead sister is grabbing her attention by infiltrating her dreams. What did Anna Carmen uncover that killed her? Why after all this time has the killer come back? Cici and detective Sam are on the case to find the truth and stop the killings.
This is a story with a lot of twists and turns, suspense, and fast-paced heart-stopping moments. Just when you think you might know who is behind the killings another suspect comes into the picture. This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller with a great storyline and multidimensional characters.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Cici Gurule finds a dead body of a parishioner in the nearby Santa Fe National Forest, she’s horrified to realize the victim bears the same stab wounds that ended her twin sister’s life one year earlier. She enlists the help from a detective friend and a loyal pair of Great Pyrenees to hunt down the killer. She is also getting help from her ‘dead sister’ in dreams. Seems that her killing wasn’t as random as first thought. Her sister was on the trail of some deep-rooted criminal operation and she is trying to help Cici right the wrongs they have done to others. A very interesting story. Kept my attention through out the entire book. I received a free ARC of this book.
Although this story is well-written and the characters finely developed, I found Cici Gurule lacking as a Reverend. Her faith is almost non existent and she is totally blind to the love around her. I know that she has spent the last year in grief, but maybe she should have taken a sabbatical from the church to come to grips with the death of her twin sister. Her friendship with the local police helped her keep up with the progress of the case. Romance is lacking, except for a suggestion of it at the very end for this to be even considered a cozy mystery. I did not find it be a high octane thriller as acclaimed in the description of the novel.
A Pilgrimage to Death is on the whole a good mystery book. For me however there was just too much going on and the whole paranormal twin thing did not really gel with me. Reverend Cici Gurule is an interesting character and I love the fact she is not what you would expect and she has flaws and bad habits just like the rest of us. I love a good mystery/thriller and I love paranormal books but this combination did not really engage me. If you don’t mind the clash of genres then this is a good story that will keep you guessing and is definitely worth a read.
Wow! I couldn’t put it down. I love the concept of the bond between the sister’s surviving even death. The book was heavy of mystery and suspense. I was guessing til the end. I love the budding relationship and connection between Cici and Sam. As a romance lover, I’d love to see the romance evolve faster, but I understand this is a mystery…so I can be patient! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series brings!
First time in reading this author but she sure did a number on me with this one that I will read her again. I love a good mystery with this catching my attention with it being a mystery. The character Cici picked my interest so I immediately was swept up into this. She comes upon another death in it opens up the way to bigger things. There was also a twin that has a part with this and that this author knows how to captivate you with this one. She is not alone in this and the way it is woven this is one mystery that has you glued to wanting to help with the answers. It will build and escalate to where you will be swept up thank goodness. Greatly enjoyed this one and ready for the next one.
An excellent mystery that keeps you turning pages to see what’s going to happen next! Looking forward to the next one.
Alexa Padgett – A Pilgrimage to Death
Reverend Cici has returned to her home town of Santa Fe, New Mexico to take over as pastor in her home church. She has also returned to try to solve the murder of her twin sister Anna Carmin. With the help of her long time friend Sam, they will track through the ugly side of drug trafficking in their lovely small town. Sometimes though, the snake is hiding way too close to home. With some Divine and ghostly intervention Sam and Cici will find the truth.
This is a well balanced story with memorable and likeable characters. What I liked most about Cici is she loves Jesus but she cusses a little. The supporting characters are all as essential to the story as the main ones. Good pacing, sharp prose, made this a very enjoyable – and often difficult to put down, story. Happy to find this is the first book in a series. Happy to see where Cici and Sam go from here! I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Reveredn Cecilia, called Cici, founds in the mountain Donal died,so begins again to investigate with Police sam, about Cici sister dead, Anna Carmen.
so many hidden things misteries in the city of Santa Fe, hard work for the Police to discover what happen.
Mildly entertaining, average plot.
