An opinionated tomboy must navigate the dangers of society, unaware her brother’s killer is lurking in her midst.
When her brother’s ship sinks off the coast of France, Miss Samantha Hastings surrenders her quiet, country life to manage his affairs. Suddenly thrust into society, Samantha faces an unfamiliar world and the unnerving green eyes of Lord Westwood–her brother’s best friend and her new … friend and her new guardian.
Benjamin, Lord Westwood, never intended on following through with his rash promise to act as guardian to Edward’s bratty little sister. Upon learning of his best friend’s death, Benjamin’s intention was to marry her off to the first acceptable suitor. When he finds himself falling for Samantha instead, Benjamin alights upon the perfect plan: a marriage of convenience.
The plan, however, quickly unravels when they discover Edward’s disappearance was due to foul play. Now, Samantha is in more danger than either of them realized, and Benjamin is running out of time. Can he save the woman he loves…or will murder ruin his perfect plan?

I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just could not get enough of it and once I started reading it I could not put it down. I recommend that you read it.

I loved the third person perspective the author did such a good job of writing it. What started out as a relationship of convenience changed when the chemistry could not be denied anymore? I adored our rake and our spirited lady. The interaction was so witty and fun. Great writing and characters with a cool plot what more would you want. Warning there is a cliffhanger! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Romance with Mystery
I enjoyed reading about Benjamin and Samantha. He’s a rake and remembers her being a scrawny tom boy that fenced. Now she’s all grown up and he has become her guardian. I like that she is rough around the edges and doesn’t fit in to the ton. There is great chemistry from the beginning. I loved that it was not just about the couple getting together but had a plot with some mystery. Can’t wait to find out more!
A Perfect Plan by Alyssa Drake.
4.5 Stars. Prepare for an adventurous mystery! I LOVED this book! The complex plot starts to unwind on the first page with a disturbing and cold calculating character in the act of torturing a man to death with a violent poison! The creatively written storyline commands your attention to the end. The fabulously strong and stubbornly willed characters armed with their sharp tongues and witty banter brings out laughs while spinning twist and turns to keep you guessing what will happen to who next and by who! I throughly enjoyed this great historical mystery adventure with steamy “rakish” hot romance!
However, I do have one complaint! There was so much building, and building, and buildings, and then all of the sudden, the “who” is revealed! Yay! Then I read, “The End”? What?! Noooo! I thought, no this couldn’t be happening to me! Then I got the next book in the series, and my world is good again! Happy Reading
It’s been a while since I’ve read a historical romance, but this new-to-me author made me remember the charm of it. Starting with a deadly opening scene, this story branched out into a sweet romance with bits of mystery. I loved how the author broached the relationship developing between Sam and Ben. Every time Sam gave Benjamin a hard time, with all the emphasis on ‘Lord’ and so forth, I couldn’t help but chuckle. Samantha was headstrong and stubborn and reckless and naive, but she was more than a match for Lord Westwood.
Samantha was a brat and made it very hard to continue reading this story. I swear, if it wasn’t for Benjamin, and even his twin brother, Thomas, I would have quit. Benjamin was a rake. He knew he had a reputation, but he really didn’t care. Well, not until it stood in the way of what he wanted. Being charged with the responsibility of looking out for Samantha, he was supposed to find her a suitable husband. Not lust after her and want her for himself. He needed to settle down with someone appropriate and genteel – Sam was the furthest thing. But the inexplicable connection these two shared didn’t give a wit for propriety. Their relationship should never have existed, but it was exactly what they both needed. I loved how they started out with the enemies-to-lovers banter and tension. It made for an entertaining read. Throw in the whole ‘relationship of convenience’ thing, and this is shaping up to be quite enjoyable.
With one heck of a cliffhanger, I need to know what happens next. It seems Sam can’t help but put herself in dangerous situations.
What’s better than a historical romance? A historical mystery romance!!! Alyssa Drake’s “A perfect plan” is all that and more. A budding romance and a murder mystery will hook you right from the start. Excellent likeable characters, an awesome storyline full of plot twists and great chemistry between the hero and heroine. True, it ends in a cliffhanger, but that’s the magic of it. I can’t wait for the next installment!!!!

When her brother dies at sea she has to go into society to handle everything but what she does not know is her brother had been murdered and now they are after her. He did not want to be her guardian and had intended to marry her off quickly but that was before he found what she really was. Can he keep her safe? Will they marry? See what will happen

Samantha is not eager to put herself through the society balls and such that her sister in law wants to drag her to. Her sister in law has finally come out of her mourning period and is looking for a husband, and she thinks Samantha should be looking for one, too. Except, Samantha is an opinionated, independent woman who doesn’t need or want a husband. But then she meets again her brother’s best friend, who apparently promised her brother that he’d find her a husband, and Benjamin means to keep that promise.
But who says that husband cannot be himself? Well, Samantha’s brother for one. He knew what a rake Benjamin is, and he’s the last person he’d want for his beloved baby sister. But that doesn’t mean the two cannot indulge in their attraction to each other, right?
I don’t normally read historicals, but I found myself loving A Perfect Plan. It was witty, sexy, suspenseful and Samantha and Benjamin are a great couple! This story read fairly modern, but kept within the Victorian era with its ideals and language, while bringing a modern feel with Samantha’s independent character. The only reason for a 4 rather than a 5 star review is because there’s a cliffhanger that wasn’t noted in the blurb. I hate cliffhangers, and normally wait for all the installments of a series to publish before I read, specifically so I won’t have to wait forever to find out what happens next.
Another new author for me and she did a wonderful job of transporting me back in time to the 1800s with her writing skills. I do love a well written historical romance, and this is very well written. I found the plot to be interesting from the beginning of the book to the very end of it. The author has added a murder mystery in with the romance. The two main characters have known each other for years and the man (Benjamin) becomes Samantha’s legal guardian, they have really great chemistry between them even though they are quite different, and Samantha doesn’t really comply with how a lady in the 1800s should dress and speak. I wasn’t too happy to find that there is a cliffhanger, I do wish authors would make it very clear in the blurb for a book that it has a cliffhanger ending as it really isn’t the type of surprise most readers enjoy, I have to admit I personally hate it!

This is a gripping, intriguing, entertaining and romantic story. Samantha is a very unique young lady, she curses, prefers to be barefoot, has no problem telling people off and rebels against all of society’s rules. She’s in London to play chaperone to her brother’s widow, Wilhelmina, who has decided to look for another husband. Wilhelmina is a b**ch who likes to control Sam. Benjamin is Sam’s brother Edward’s best friend, and the one he entrusted to be guardian to her. They hadn’t seen each other in 10 years, and neither was prepared for the attraction between them. Benjamin just wanted to marry her off and be done with his obligation, until her life is in danger and he thinks about never seeing her again. Not is all as it seems though, there are surprising twists and shocking revelations. The suspense builds towards an exciting climax, until the sudden epilogue ends the book. It’s a great book up to that point, with amusing and likable characters, but the ending leaves you wanting.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
This is the 2nd book I’ve read written Alyssa Drake; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

A superb historical romance with a good solid mystery mixed in. Made me think of the early Amanda Quick books but with more heat. The main characters of Benjamin and Samantha were well-developed. Good solid writing.

A murder quite some time ago and a man on a mission to destroy a family. This is the plan.
But not all plans go as clean as they had been thought out, as new players enter the field.
When Lord Westwood takes over the guardianship of his best friend’s sister, he just wants to introduce her to society and get her married off, but of course they fall for each other. Between his feelings for his charge and protecting her from an unknown enemy he is kept busy.
An intersting story, rife with adventure and tension between the couple. With this story ending in a cliff-hanger I am sure, many people will be looking forward to book 2

WOW. This book is perfection. A Perfect Plan, is an historical romantic suspense (love & murder in 1850s England). Sometimes historical novels are very stuffy and either really really proper or very very naughty. This book flows wonderfully, the grammar is proper for the time the people behave proper for the time (also perfectly improper for the time) but, its also modern enough that it flows and is easy to handle, its just the right amount of naughty. This book is addicting and brilliant. I need the second book immediately. If I beg and plead I can only hope that Alyssa Drake will allow me to be a part of her ARC team, because I don’t know how much longer I can wait. I love the characters, I love the plot, I love the writing, I LOVE this book! Every single part of this book is fantastically done. The murder mystery is intriguing, although I guessed the culprit I was never sure if my guess was correct or not until the very end. It’s hard to surprise me but A Perfect Plan managed to do just that. My only complaint is that it ended and I need to wait to have more. I am amazed that this is the first novel by Alyssa Drake, she writes like shes been publishing books her entire life. This book is a far cry from the books I’ve been reading lately but I’ve always loved historical romances, and suspenseful or just mystery novels, this book was all of those combined in such a way that I wasn’t sure could work, but boy did it. I honestly can not praise this book enough. I’ve been reading some wonderful books lately, but this surpasses all of them. It was nice to break away from the normal romance novels, and read such a unique and wonderful novel. The title fits this book perfectly because it sure is perfect. This book is available now and you need to go read it immediately!
Historical romance, humor, and mystery are what the author brings to life in A Perfect Plan.
I really liked Benjamin and Samantha, the way the characters were portrayed and their interactions with sly banter and innuendos. All in all, I would recommend this book wholeheartedly.

Oh wow, this was such a great book to read! I didn’t realize it ended in a cliffhanger, though, so now I’m looking forward to the next book coming out.
Miss Samantha Hastings is quite the character and I just loved her!! She refuses to conform to society’s strict rules and loves nothing better than to walk around barefoot, swear to her heart’s content and live in the country where there are no ball or parties to attend. She ends up going to stay with her sister in law after her brother’s death and is told she needs to have her first season and attend all these balls and parties that she so detests.
Lord Benjamin Westwood finds himself Samantha’s guardian after promising her brother that he would make sure she married well. He figures it will be a quick job but once he sets eyes on her, he wants her all to himself! He’s an experienced rake and she’s an innocent but sparks fly when they are together and I just loved their interactions with each other, some humorous, others steamy as heck!!!
When Samantha’s brother suddenly reappears, not dead after all, it’s discovered that there’s a murderer out to get him and his family! This author weaves her story quite well and I had a hard time putting the book down.

I really enjoyed the book , it do have a cliff hanger at the end which surprised me for a normal length book. I do look forward to part 2 . while characters were very funny which i do adore in books and story line was very good. I just wish no cliff hangers , i usually stay away from books as such. It just literally eneded with samantha going with her cousin. I do recommend this though.

Miss Samantha Hastings has grown up in the country; far from the ton and high society. Years have passed, and Wilhelmina has decided it’s beyond time for Samantha to be introduced to the ton and high society, and to attempt to find a 2nd husband to assist her (Wilhelmina) with her daughters. Samantha is outraged, but knows Wilhelmina is right; they both need to move on after Edward’s death.

That is, until he meets Samantha, a fiery, outspoken beauty who is still an innocent… However, Benjamin fights the attraction, as he is also Samantha’s guardian, due to a promise extracted by Samantha’s brother Edward before he left on his ill-fated voyage… Samantha is besieged with suitors, but Lord Westwood is determined that he will win her heart and hand!

Intriguing story, that captured my attention immediately! The twists, the turns, the situations! I can hardly wait to see what happens next!
