Vanessa Johnson Rossi’s dream is to work at the White House. Not as the leader of the free world, but as chief of staff, overseeing the executive office of the president. As an assistant working at Buderwood Hills City Hall, she finds herself getting closer to realizing her dream when a plum position becomes available that would put her a step closer working directly for the mayor who has … personal connections to the White House. But Vanessa’s hopes are dashed when her best friend, Penelope Newhouse, lands the coveted job. However, when Vanessa discovers Penelope murdered less than a hundred feet from the office she dreamed of occupying, her disappointment turns into devastation.
Detective Rachel Storme and her team are put on the case and she soon finds herself delving into the underbelly of politics in search of the killer. The clues point to a litany of suspects, including the mayor. As usual, Detective Storme is determined to solve this case—a case so chock-full of dark and sinister twists and turns, it has her questioning her own competence.

iN SPITE OF THE LENGHT OF THE NOVEL,IT WAS VERY GOOD
I liked this book even better than the first two I read in the series. Very good plot—had me guessing all the way. A tad gory, perhaps. Less distracting typos and grammar mistakes than previous books by this author, but still there. My biggest beef is still incorrect Spanish—and if I remember correctly, it was the only sentence in Spanish. Ay caramba! If not for that, I’d have given it 5 stars.
Loved the twists and turns. Good read.
I enjoyed reading this book.
This was a very well written book about several murders and I really enjoyed it.
Loved the characters in this story! Vince (supposedly uneducated) and married to the college grad who wants to be White House Chief of Staff. Eventually, almost everyone who knew the victim was removed as a suspect, but entertaining as the author portrayed all the reasons from the police detectives on who could have killed Penny. Twist, of course, at the end and very enjoyable!
Enjoyed the book very much. Liked the intrigue and suspense throughout1 Good read.
Interesting political murder/mystery-not what I expected.
too gruesome, skipped lots
This book has a very original plot! Very entertaining!
confusing and i didn’t like any of the characters. i didn’t finish it.
This was unpredictable until the actual murderer was introduced. I knew it was him immediately. I liked the characters, but a good mystery should last till the end.
Loved the characters.
Interesting twist and worthwhile read.
Good mystery, enough of a twist to garner a 4 star rating
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book. It was hard to put down.
The story was interesting enough at first. But rather quickly, I found the characters shallow. The story rather forced at times (dream sequence, really?) and unbelievable at other times.
However, I did finish the book; so it got 2 stars.
I think I have up on this one. After she defaults into the mayor or Govenor office I lost interest.
The plot was ok, it just took too long to get there. The conversations were weak and too detailed. This is where the author could have tightened up the story. Overall, it was an intriguing story and the killer’s purpose for killing was hard to accept.
Not my usual read, but kept me reading straight through to the end!
