As part of the review team, I have read quite a few Rose Pearson books, enjoying every one. I love her strong heroines who are willing to step outside the rules of “political correctness” in that society and help another. This book is a sweet, Regency romance but with a darker mystery this time. I also very much enjoyed seeing the villain taken down in a dramatic way, a way that was deserved. The two main characters were wonderful – it was a joy to follow their story and I was sad to have it end.
A story for all that love Regency…
Well developed main and secondary characters…
Deep… intense… with turns and twists….
A fantastic love story…

Let me start this review by saying in the last week I have read and reviewed three very different books. One was a second chance story that was over the top sexy, a fast short story. The second one was set in the Regency era about a wounded soul and her saver. It was also a very sexy read with lots of action, fighting fit for the time period.
Now the third is this book, which is an out and out love story. I have read and reviewed a number of Rose’s stories and I am always amazed and wonderfully surprised that she can write a heart pounding story that uses no foul language, no sex scenes and still has one staying up late at night to finish it.
Lady Ellen Coulbourne has had a season and found it to be fun and enjoyable but did not find a husband which she was fine with only her mother and father were not. As she is starting her second season her father one Lord Coulbourne finds a gentleman who has agreed to marry her. Ellen is shocked that she will have no choice in who she is to marry.
She fears that he will be old, or mean, or both…. Her father is not mean but has always told Ellen that she is not particularly beautiful and is plain !! He doesn’t know how this hurts her every time. She has a hard time not saying what she thinks and it gets her in trouble a lot. Most men of this time period want a wife that can be showed off, give them the children they need and be spoken to and not heard other was. Letting them do as they please. ( I would never had made it in this time period)..
When she meets Lord Stafford, Leonard the first time she is happily surprised. He is about her own age, and very handsome even with a bad scar running down one side of this face. As she feels she is imperfect that makes him even better…
Lord Stafford has been refused dances by ladies and had mother keep their daughters from him as he is no longer suitable company. The ton only likes and accepts “perfect” people. He is embarrassed, shamed and hurt as people treat him with indignity. After he meets Lord Caulbourne he learns he is trying to find a husband for his daughter. After hearing about her and what she is like he decides this may be the only way he can get a wife.
It is very nervous fearing she will be shocked by his scar. He finds a lovely Lady who is not plain in his eyes who treats him like
someone she might like to get to know.
All seems to be going fine, till Leonard’s past comes back. One Lady Moore who is beautiful but with the soul of Cruella De Vil !!
She is blackmailing Leonard.
Will Leonard and Ellen be able to overcome the hurt and disappointment that comes from not trusting and talking to each other. Figure out a way to stop the evil Lady Moore ? With a friend of her mother’s and his best friend be able to help?
Well to find out you need to get your copy and get started reading this great story….
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the fifth book in the series & is easily read on its own. I really liked Ellen who was a strong stubborn & determined woman, whilst I liked Leonard he was a bit of a wimp but did grow a backbone towards the end. A well written book that flowed effortlessly & I read it in an afternoon. Leonard feared being ostracised but by breaking the engagement he would have been, as a gentleman never jilted a lady, whilst I could understand his motives I couldn’t condone it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
ONE EXCEPTIONAL BLOCK BUSTER!!!
Perfect! Rose doesn’t miss a beat, bat an eye or hesitate in the least, laying this baby out, imparting one sensational storyline and gripping plot, revving up the exuberance and intensity, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Blurring boundaries and leaping lines, exposing the strengths and weaknesses being weighed and balanced, kicking this baby into overdrive, breaking it down, blowing it into a tailspin with a life-altering culmination. Shenanigans, escapades and mayhem rule the roost displaying the drama, turmoil, intrigue, blackmail, mounting suspense and precarious situations, along with a double dose of moxie and sass, you have one intoxicating masterpiece. The attraction and chemistry builds as each layer is peeled back exposing an undeniable connection, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters are complex and authentic with depth and traits that blend and flow, transforming into genuine relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Fantastic job Rose, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Sweet Regency romance, with a touch of blackmail thrown in for good measure. Leonard and Ellen are a great couple, who invite you to travel with them through their trials and tribulations. The secondary characters, both good and evil, were thoroughly well researched. I loved the final confrontation with the blackmailer. So poignant! This is a great book and I highly recommend it.
