A Past Forgiven (Heartbeats University #2) was a great read by Lorana Hoopes. Jess Peterson has been abused in her past and completely lost her self worth. She finds herself paired with a Christian roommate and begins to wonder if God is looking down on her too. Her decisions are trying to lead her astray until she winds up pregnant and needing to make major changes. Chad has been trying to heal from his past but tries to hide his pain behind meaningless relationships. I really loved reading Jess and Chad’s story and can’t wait to read more by the author.

A Past Forgiven is such a wonderfully written inspirational book! I listened in one sitting. This story is about Jess who is now at college, has a chip on her shoulder, and a past that is pulling her down. She meets Chad who also is struggling as he is working through some things that have happened to him. Together, these two find the way to happiness. It’s a story of love and forgiveness, new relationships and redemption and a new starts. Lorana Hoopes has such a great way of tackling difficult topics and showing how faith can help you through. It’s a great listen narrated by the author herself, letting us feel each emotion as she intends. The story of hope and healing makes your heart fill with love.

A wonderful well written and beautifully narrated inspirational romance. This engaging storyline includes new beginnings, angst, anger, painful pasts, forgiveness, healing, hope, consequences and resolutions with a happy ending in a emotional, action-packed story. The characters are interesting and well developed as you feel their joy, pain, and relief with the influence of prayer and acceptance in faith.
Abusive past, troubled relationships, anger and … God’s forgiveness and healing.
Lorana does a wonderful job narrating! I really enjoyed the story. It did a good job of bringing to light abuse and how it can affect our future decisions. It also covers being angry at and blaming God for things and how we need to not do that. This book is a book of redemption and it leaves you feeling good.
I can’t even say all the emotions I was feeling during listening to this audiobook! such a powerful and emotional story! Lorana Hoopes did an outstanding job on writing this story and narrating it!
I received an audible copy of this book from the author. I didn’t think I would like the story at the begining as Chad & Jess are very worldly & I couldn’t figure how the christian aspect would come into the story. But it does! Jess’ roommate, Emily, is the catalyst. I really loved her attitude & actions in the story. This is certainly a story high school, college, young adults or anyone should read to learn how not to act when on their own & how to act when something unwanted happens to you.
This is a wonderful story about temptation, abuse, and redemption. Lorana Hoopes writes about difficult topics in a very inspirational way. I am always sucked into the story and cannot put it down. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a serious Christian read.
This book deals with sensitive subjects for those who like Christian fiction but I felt it was handled very well. I usually don’t choose to read book about the college age crowd. My kids have all passed through that stage of life and have thankfully, moved on to their careers now! This book shows how much the temptations are out there for our young adults and what they deal with on college campuses or just in life! Jess is attending a college as a freshman but the challenges she’s had already, started way before she ever stepped foot on a college campus! She has a huge attitude and is especially upset that she has a roommate when all she wanted was to be alone in a dorm! Her roommate, of all things, is one of those “religious people” and that’s even worse!!! Then, there’s Chad! He’s an upper classman and a TA who also has attitude but there is a reason for that. Jess and Chad get together almost immediately as they are both vulnerable but the book takes them on a roller coaster journey as they try to sort out feelings of worth and religion and their pasts. Jess’s roommate gets the ball rolling and is very supportive, along with her family. I very much admired her persistence and how she wasn’t going to stop being an example to Jess, no matter what!
I hope people will check out this book and especially have teenagers or college age youth read it! It would be a great help to them, I think. I appreciate the author giving me a chance to read this book. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This may have started out like many college campus books, but it sure has it’s own unique story! I loved it! I appreciate so many aspects, but don’t want to give it away! Try out this book if Lorana is new to you! If you already love her, I know you’ll love this book too!
