“A Pack of Love and Hate” is the already the last instalment in “The Boulder Wolves” Trilogy, a YA/NA urban fantasy paranormal werewolves romance series by Olivia Wildenstein, which centers in Ness (FCM) epic journey back into the Boulder Pack after a six years exile.
The story follows seamlessly the events of the previous book, as Ness is trying to help Liam to deal with the threat posed by Cassandra, the leader of the Creek Pack. While working together to save the pack Liam and Ness relationship turn and Ness finds herself falling for the once enemy, regardless of her mated bond to August. Liam himself cannot seem to be able to forget his own feelings for Ness, and thus everything gets a lot more complicated before a resolution is on the horizon.
Olivia Wildenstein’s story is interesting, easy-to-read, with great charters and a solid plot that explore the difficult relationship between males and females in the pack and due to the target audience YA & NA, abstains from the oversexualized narrative often used in the werewolf genre… a refreshing and welcomed detail. While the book depicts a classic romantic triangle, it is more to the story that mere paranormal romance, making the pack dynamics take an important part in the plot. The triangle trope in the story reveals not only the personal feelings of all three individuals tangled in it, but also the difficulties of the pack dynamic and workings, because when it comes to werewolves no one is really just on his own, and every decision has an impact for the whole pack.
Perfect bittersweet finale!!!
I’m so shaken by this fantastic installment, the plot, the twists and turns, the deep intense emotions, OMG, I can’t with my feelings!!!
But it’s so perfect, bittersweet perfect, in spite of all the angst, couldn’t have it any other way!!!
Olivia mind is marvelous, a little bit (coff *much* coff) evil (she enjoys our suffering, I’m certain ), her stories are so powerful, you really feel them, she’s awesome and I love her.. most of the time anyway
If you haven’t read this amazing trilogy yet, get your copy now!!!
A Pack of Love and Hate is the third in this continuous series and by far the best one yet!! Just an emotional rollercoaster of ups and downs right from the beginning to the very end. The audio narration is really well done! I thoroughly enjoyed this series!
I loved it. I don’t really know what else to say. It was dramatic, intense, impactful and oh so romantic. I am new to Olivia Wildenstein’s books, but having binge-read the whole series I am certainly coming back for more!
If I have one small complaint, and trust me when I say it’s small, it’s that there was a bit too much jumping back and forth in the relationship between Ness and August. One moment they were all over each other the next, they couldn’t and so on and so forth. It brought some drama and twists that I liked but it also took away a bit of the romance, a romance I absolutely loved. In fact, so much so that I’m much less bitter about what happened between Ness and Liam. Sure, I’m still a bit sore over the switcheroo, but this book gave such a complex and satisfying story, conclusion and drama that I couldn’t help but fall heads over heels.
Not only that, I am very impressed with how the plot was handled and the depth that came with it. While the story centered around Ness, August and Liam mostly, it still managed to give life and care to other characters like Sarah, Lucas, Matt, Jeb and so on. Hell, even the villains of the story and their cleverness was handled perfectly. Though I am a tiny bit bugged over that it took Ness and crew so long to figure out their method of winning with such clear signs. Other than that though, I am very happy with both plot and characters.
I am the most happiest over the ending of the book. While I am into HEA I still also like it a bit bittersweet since it give the story a more impactful and realistic conclusion. A Pack of Love and Hate had just that bittersweet, yet beautiful and satisfying ending. Also having some things unresolved, like Liam’s new role and troubles and Lucas and Sarah’s undefined tense relationship, makes me so excited for the two spin-offs coming. If only they weren’t a year away.
I really enjoyed this book. These characters and adventures get addicting.
Great writing and plot. It keeps the interest all the book with everyting going on and mostly their characters. Old and new ones. Ness and August find their way but isn’t an easy one at all. They find many difficulties. The Creeks and the old Pines packs brings more problems and interesting situations to deal with.
I like Ness and August story. It’s cute, nice and lovable but I still believe that the secondary characters stole the show. Liam, Lucas and Sarah are awesome characters to read about. More daring, bold and definitely fun to read.
I can’t wait for the nexts books of The Boulder Wolves to come!
5 stars for A Pack of Love and Hate by Olivia Wildenstein. This is the third and final book in The Boulder Wolves Trilogy. Wow this was a great ending to an amazing trilogy. Ness really comes into her own in this book. She knows what needs to happen for Liam to beat Cassandra and for the pack to be stronger. She knows she is going headfirst into danger, but knows in the end if Liam succeeds then it will be better. On a different note the love triangle , Ness has feelings for August and know he wants her but she is not sure if it is because of the bond of it is real feelings. We do get to see a jealous side Ness that I loved and enjoyed seeing. Liam does not want to give up on his feelings for Ness even though he messed up and Ness will never forgive him or see him in that way again.
I loved how everything came to a head in this book. It was great work from Olivia Wildenstein.

This one took me too long to read, life just kept getting in the way.
What can I say… oh my goodness. I loved every page of this story along with this series. The characters, the scenes, the duel, the love. Just everything was perfect.
This series is best read in order.
#TeamAugust
An immersive, thrilling, twist-filled ride from page one! I’m in love with this series and was completely blown away by its conclusion. It has perfectly flawed and relatable characters and feel it in your soul romance. It’s not a story, it’s an experience that will leave you reeling with emotions. The tension between Ness, Liam, and August peaks and the turns the story takes nearly gutted me. I was filled with anticipation from the first chapter waiting to see how the Alpha challenge and romance angles would pan out. I wasn’t disappointed at all and felt Wildenstein did a great job resolving the story and character arcs in a true-to-the-story way. I can’t get over how magical reading this series was and easily consider it one of my top shifter reads ever! If you enjoy shifters or paranormal romance, this series is an absolute must!
Fantastic read, well written with a great plot and characters. I was absorbed from beginning to end. Book 3 picks up where book 2 ends. Great pace, emotional rollercoaster, amazing ending to wrap up the series! Love this series and Oliva is one of my FAVORITE authors! Can’t wait to read more by this amazing author!
The third and final book in the Boulder Wolves series, again picks up where book 2 A Pack of Vows and Tears ends. I was captivated by book 1 and just love these characters. A Pack of Love and Hate is a roller coaster of emotions, well paced, and enjoyable to read. I absolutely fell in love with the Boulder Wolves and their story.
My mind and heart are still processing this finale. I have grown to love and care about these characters so much and have become so invested in their stories thus far, that saying goodbye to them (for now, I hope!) was such a tumultuous yet uplifting journey.
The ending was my absolute favorite part of the novel. It was so well written and there were so many last minute surprises that Olivia had in store for us. I think readers will be pleasantly satisfied with how the series ends but also happily awaiting for more, should more ever be written. I’d recommend this series to readers who enjoy shifter novels with a unique plot and intriguing characters that will keep you up at night, guessing what’s to come!
I LOVED IT! This is the thrilling end to a terrific series. This story picks up right where A Pack of Vows and Tears left off. Ness is tired of being a push me pull you between Liam and August. She just wants to find out how Cassandra cheated and save the pack (and Liams life). I loved watching Ness grow into a fierce young woman. This is a fast paced exciting story that I didn’t want to end.
5+++ Stars
This series has quickly sky-rocketed to one of my all-time favourites. All three books have been fast-paced and captured the story of shifter love, life and rivalry perfectly, in my opinion. The characters are all memorable and with a delicious love triangle, you can’t help but want to be in Ness’ shoes, or rather, paws!
Whilst the first book made you fall in love with Liam Kolane, books 2 and 3 endeared you to August Watt. I didn’t think anyone could rival Liam for my affections but I do believe I ended up wishing and hoping Ness had a HEA with August. When there’s a choice is between youth and experience, who would you choose?
As expected, this instalment prepares you for the battle of all battles as Liam and Ness prepare to take on the Creek Alpha and her loathsome second. Liam wants Ness all to himself whilst he’s training her but will her feelings for August be too much for her to bear or will Liam find a way to break their bond.
I have to admit to reading this book rather more tentatively than others. I was turning each page with dread as I feared for the worst for the characters that I have come to love. When the battle finally came around, I could hardly manage to open my eyes as I was convinced that the author was going to literary (get it!!!) kill me with this story.
These books are amazingly well written and Olivia Wildenstein has definitely left me wanting more from her talented writing and storytelling skills. If you love shifter stories, or even if you don’t, you really don’t want to miss this series and this author’s wolfish writing. What’s next, hmmm there appears to be a mention of feathers on the wind.
Sad this is the last book in the Boulder Pack book trilogy. It has been great with each book traveling along with the pack. There life and trials love and hate all shined in this book. I love books that show so many sides to humans (or supernaturals) that resonate in our own lives. This is one such book and a good one to explore and loose oneself in. Hats off and kudo’s to Olivia Wildenstien.
I am so glad I got a chance to read an ARC of this book, but it’s also bittersweet. I was dying without it. Waiting for Olivia’s books is like eating ice cream. You can’t wait for every spoonful, but you dread the last one because you’ll miss it when it’s gone. I’m definitely going to miss these characters. This book was such a great ending to the Ness’ story. The heartache, the tension, and the warring mixture of emotional tenderness and physical violence makes for a great read that keeps you wanting more and leaves you unable to put it down. The only regret you’ll have about this book is that it ends. But, then again, you can just start over and relive the magic.
This was a great ending to this fantastic trilogy! I loved it so much!! And these covers are gorgeous!
After gave read the first 2 books well let’s say that this one doesn’t disappoint. We think things will go one way but when we get this surprise that changes the name of the game, you go….didn’t see that coming. Ness, August and Liam seem to find all the trouble but in the end somewhat get that happy ending. This series made laugh, cry, scream and shout. So worth the read. I am still reeling. It definitely gets 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader’s Copy.
Yeah so I’m crying… You’re not ready for this book. I’M not ready for this book and I just read it. Ten years from now and I’m still not going to be ready for this book…
Nothing, and I do mean nothing, turnout the way I wanted it too (well, okay maybe a few things, but I’m emotional right now so dramatics are called for, LOL). I missed the mark on quite a few issues; YET… this is the one of most beautiful and heartwarming stories I’ve ever read. It is just utterly perfect and endearing. I am beyond satisfied and could not have ever pictured a better conclusion to this wonderful series.
I will be re-reading this series over and over again for the rest of my life. It has truly become a piece of my heart and I can’t express enough how much I have resonated with these characters. I do hope in the future the author can write more stories with the secondary characters or even a short story to let readers know that the characters are still well. I feel like they have become a part of my family, so I want update. Kind of like joint custody, I need to be in these characters lives, LOL.
On a personal note: The talent of a true author is in making readers believe in a story. In the couple, their love and circumstance, EVEN knowing it goes against the choices you would have made as that character. This book is that for me, the perfect example. I loved the outcome; it was PERFECT for the characters. Did I want a different ending… for the characters NO, for me as the character YES; but loving the story as much as I do despite that… that is what makes this author so wonderful, so magical, she doesn’t give me what I want, she give the characters what they need! ** Sigh** And that is why she has my highest respects. Olivia Wildenstein, THANK YOU. You rock lady!! All the stars in in the sky plus Cassiopeia *wink, wink*.
I don’t even think I can fully express the level of emotion this book has pulled out of me. While I’ve been enjoying this series, this book locked my heart into a vice and didn’t let go until the absolute end. So many characters experienced deep and transformative events and emotions, and I was pulled along with every one of them through Ness’ eyes. The uninvited love triangle between Ness, August, and Liam played out beautifully, with the absolutely most perfect outcome. It wasn’t a squeaky clean “and they lived happily ever after”. It was hard fought, and battle tested, and proven to be exactly what it needed to be. Both August and Liam proved themselves worthy. Liam’s growth was so real and palpable, it took time and a lot of wake up calls, but he really seemed to wake up by the end of the book. And August, well, his strength and compassion and love broke my heart and then put it back together again. And the way the age difference between August and Ness was handled was beautiful, and followed a very real, and very rocky path. Just another way this book grabbed my heart and put it through the wringer.
This book also brought out more appreciation for some of the other characters. The amazing best friend Ness found with Sarah, her uncle Jeb, who was super questionable and sketchy at first impression, became an amazing rock for Ness as her only remaining family, and even Lucas, who is usually a complete ass, wiggles his way into Ness’ (and my) heart as a true friend.
This was an amazing end to the trilogy. The narration was wonderfully done, and captured all the heart and emotion through every step so succinctly. Those chapters after the duel were so perfect in their simplicity. And the epilogue pulled everything to its conclusion in the absolutely beat way.
I know we’re getting more after this, with Liam’s continued story coming next, and I can’t wait for the story to continue. I have truly become attached to all these characters on a visceral level, and I’m glad we won’t have to fully say goodbye to them yet.
I hate to give this book in this series this rating, (because, let’s be honest, it’s been an amazing series so far), but I feel disappointed and like I have been left with more questions than answers.
This last book in the trilogy fell flat when compared to the other two books in the series. For the first three quarters of this book, the passion, angst, thrills and action that I have come to expect, were lacking. We were told more than shown.
The journey to the final battle was filled with mundane facts and occurrences. I did not feel or witness the tension or the pressure that the clan should have been feeling. As result of this, even though the last quarter of the book brought about the action and passion I was expecting, it all felt anti-climatic and was too little too late.
The ending itself does not feel like a HEA more like a HFN. For me, there is still so much more to explore. It feels like almost everything is a loose end, even with Ness. After what she went through, it seems like her character has a huge trial ahead of her and we are left wondering how she will tackle it and how she will fare.
I also must admit that, even though it does not affect my rating of the book, I’m sorely disappointed with who Ness ends up with. It seems expected and safe. For me, it also leaves another huge loose end as to what will happen with the one who does not gain Ness’s heart.
With so many loose ends another book or spin-off would not be remiss. I am more than hoping there is more because I don’t want to believe this is the end.
An overall an amazing series that I recommend to all PNR fans.
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
