Welcome to Spindle Cove…Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the bookish, the shy, the heartbroken or misunderstood. It’s a haven for young women who don’t quite fit in.Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn’t belong here. So far as he can tell, there’s nothing in this village but spinsters and sheep. But he has orders to … But he has orders to gather a militia. It’s a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch–a woman who is determined to save her ladies’ refuge from the invasion of Bram’s makeshift army.
The last thing either of them expects is a powerful attraction. Much less explosive passion. The village of Spindle Cove is set for an epic battle of the sexes…but will love conquer all?

Features a feisty spinster heroine and a swoon-worthy military hero. The Spindle Cove series has made me a fan of Tessa Dare! She puts me in mind of Julia Quinn with her laugh-out-loud punchlines and snappy dialogue. And the steam factor in these. OMG! Start with this book, which is the first. You won’t be sorry!
This is a steamy, entertaining, well-written, historical romance novel. It has likable, engaging characters, wit, humor, a strong and capable female protagonist, an injured military hero, a heart-warming romance, a fairytale dance, and a happily ever after ending. It is the first entry in Ms. Dare’s outstanding “Spindle Cove” series. I am looking …
How can you not love a book with a pet lamb named Dinner? It’s a fun read with lots of humor and romance, but the characters also have depth and realistic reasons for their reluctance to commit to a relationship. Ms. Dare also gets in some interesting details about Regency medicine and weaponry. I really loved the side character of Colin, his …
This book made me smile from beginning to end. Watching the two main characters fight, flirt and fall in love was immensely enjoyable. It’s a sweet little read with heat both from the sparks of fighting and sexiness. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on book two.
The Spindle Cove series is one of my all-time favorites. I love everything about these books.
Spindle Cove is a seaside destination where young ladies who don’t seem to fit in with society’s expectations get to ignore all that garbage. They’re free to be as quiet or strange or missish or socially awkward as they wish in Spindle Cove, and that is …
Imaginative!
Imagine a small coastal village run by and for misfit women! Spindle Cove is so much fun, and Bram and Susanna are perfect for each other. I loved it!
I started this book on audio and finished it by reading. The audio version was quite good, but I had time to listen to it only 40 minutes a day or so and then it wasn’t every day. Since I’d borrowed it from the library, I was running out of time and I wanted to finish it. The narrator was awesome with her inflections and her tone of voice and her …
This was instantly entertaining! I loved it! It was an excellent introduction to the Spindle Cove series. It was filled with attitude, arguing, and heat, stubbornness, and drama, friendship, and love. I couldn’t read it fast enough!
I smiled all the way through “A Night to Surrender” by Tessa Dare. The humor and banter and romantic sparks were just right. There were also moments of exquisite tenderness as well as evocatively erotic interludes. The appreciation between the hero and heroine of each other as individuals was as profound as it was passionate. Neither of them knew …
I like the way she develops the characters.
I love writers who have a good sense of humor and this book is packed with hilarious scenes and dialogues! Very very smart writing, a real page turner and an overall feeling of just “happy”, cute, sigh…!
As with every Tessa Dare book I’ve read yet, and yes I’ve read them all, this is a delight! I’m in love with Spindle Cove and those who lived there.
Not gonna lie – this took a while for me to get into, but once it sucked me in, it didn’t let me go. I probably would’ve been better off had I started from this book in the series; I actually read Do You Want to Start a Scandal first, then A Week to Be Wicked, and now A Night to Surrender, so I’ve met the Heywood sisters all out of order. Now that …
Audiobook: Narrator – Carolyn Morris
Great job of giving voice to these lively characters!
I read book 3 long ago and have since come back to read/listen to the series. I didn’t think I would enjoy this one as much as I did A Week to be Wicked but I absolutely did. There is just as much fun, steam and hijinx here as there was in #3. I …
May I gush here? Yes, I think I’ll gush. This book is an absolutely perfect specimen of the romance genre. I couldn’t put it down. The story was great, the plot unflagging, and the characters were interesting, believable, and sympathetic. The grammar was appropriate, and the editing invisible (and by that I mean, IMPECCABLE). I can’t wait to read …
