#1 New York Times Bestseller: The definitive book on the sinking of the Titanic, based on interviews with survivors, by the author of The Miracle of Dunkirk. At first, no one but the lookout recognized the sound. Passengers described it as the impact of a heavy wave, a scraping noise, or the tearing of a long calico strip. In fact, it was the sound of the world’s most famous ocean liner striking … world’s most famous ocean liner striking an iceberg, and it served as the death knell for 1,500 souls. In the next two hours and forty minutes, the maiden voyage of the Titanic became one of history’s worst maritime accidents. As the ship’s deck slipped closer to the icy waterline, women pleaded with their husbands to join them on lifeboats. Men changed into their evening clothes to meet death with dignity. And in steerage, hundreds fought bitterly against certain death. At 2:15 a.m. the ship’s band played “Autumn.” Five minutes later, the Titanic was gone. Based on interviews with sixty-three survivors, Lord’s moment-by-moment account is among the finest books written about one of the twentieth century’s bleakest nights.

Night to Remember is a personal account of what happened aboard the ship, Titanic, and the horrors of the sinking and of the rescues (most people died, only a few survived). I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the saga of the Titanic. This book is based solidly on fact, which is one reason I like it so much.
Excellent history of the events that led to the loss of life on The Titanic. The author explains how he tried to gather as factual information as possible, and where conflicts occurred he presents both views. An excellent read.
The outlines of what we know about the sinking of the Titanic are filled out in this book. There are lots of details that are interesting to learn. Nothing that might change someone’s opinion about blame but still, very detailed and very very interesting.

A most excellent telling of the sinking of the Titanic in April 1912. Mr. Lord tells the story through the eyes of those on board. On a frigid night, the liner struck an iceberg and in just over two hours she went to the bottom of the sea.
I can’t imagine the terror and fear the people must have felt when they finally knew …
It was great. A lot of personal stories from survivors. My mother who was born in June 1912 was named after Lorraine? who died with her parents on the ship. It meant a lot to her. A great message in the book is that “nothing is unsinkable” (add whatever adjective you want as life deals the cards).
First book I read about the Titanic. Just reread it after 30 years…Very good book.
This book is my favorite because is romantic and sad too.
Vivid reconstruction of the wreck of the Titanic.

The definitive book on the sinking of the Titanic. This is the one to read if you want to know what transpired that fateful night.
One of the finest Titanic books! Written more like historical fiction but well researched and accurate.
True history.
I read this book to help my daughter with an English essay for school. It took a couple of chapters to get used to the method of storytelling, which is weaving personal memories and anecdotes into a chronological accounting of the sinking of the Titanic. I doubt I would have kept reading this book past the first few chapters had it not been for an …
This first-hand account from those who were there, seemed to place me on the deck of the Titanic as the tragedy unfolded, then on one of the lifeboats watching this “unsinkable” ship slip away into the ocean. Excellent writing.
The book was so gripping, I couldn’t stop reading–finished it in 2 days.
I’d heard so much about that tragic night in 1912. Reading about it was incredible. Learn more about that fateful night. Worth the read.
I lost interest and didn’t find it interesting.
Very interesting factual account of the sinking of the Titanic. Very interesting read.
