“With her signature blend of raw primal passion and emotion, Addison Cain brings us a hot read guaranteed to warm up anyone’s winter night!” –Zoe Blake, USA TODAY bestselling author An assassin’s vow of chastity must never waver. To crave the flesh is to be distracted. To fail. Yet desire takes hold of reason each time he looks at River, his uninvited savior—the crass woman offering him shelter … his uninvited savior—the crass woman offering him shelter through a raging blizzard.
Stranded together in her cabin, it’s impossible to resist. The way her lips part as she sleeps, those soft brown eyes gazing at the fire… and a tongue sharper than any blade he’s buried in a target’s ribs.
He’s never known a woman, but her? He’s going to learn every last inch of River before the snow breaks.
A Night by my Fire is a stand-alone novella that contains no cliffhangers. Need to warm up in front of a fire? Wrap yourself in a soft blanket and enjoy!

I am a HUGE fan of this author and once again she did not disappoint. This was A short exciting story about River that stumbled across an injured Stephen. River was living in the wilderness and Stephen had a dark mysterious past. The more I read the more excited I became. These two were at each others throats from the beginning until the end. The book ends with you asking yourself what did I just read? I’m looking forward to reading more about them in the future, I have so many questions. Great read.
A short story about a short fling between two people who find themselves thrown together by fate. Their intersections are gritty and definitely not a love story but I’m intrigued by the characters and wish the story were longer or there was a epilogue. I guess real life doesn’t happen that way tho :). But still, a great read by one of my favorite authors.
I love this short story, is like all of Addisson works, the story grabs you and you don’t want to finish so soon.
River is a strong and very unique woman, she very intiguin, and you want to know more about her and her story.
She saves this monstruos man from drowning and that is how the meet.
The interaction between this two is really funny and enterteing.
He is letal but also innocent in others aspects.
The only bad thing is that end so soon and you want to know much more.
I hope that Addison writes a full book of this story because I want more.
Oh my goodness, what a delicious and unexpected read. First of all, River is a bada$$! She’s surviving the hostile wilderness all alone and she saves lost people’s lives. Stephen is one of them. She pulls his nearly lifeless body from the river and gets him to safety. Stephen sees River as prey at first and then it develops into something more. Stephen has a remarkable awakening and he has River to thank for it. I don’t want to give away the ending, but it’s true to the characters
I have a book hangover today from this book, I need more River and Stephen! River is an independent, strong-willed woman who is just bad ass in my opinion. She is a very likable character from the get-go. She pulls Stephen from a freezing river and brings him back to life, drags him to her humble cabin and curses him the whole way. He is basically a hateful and ungrateful lug at first but it’s no wonder why when you find out his prior occupation and training. Stephen warms up to River and being a virgin decides he wants her. He bluntly tells her and well what’s a girl to do, trapped in a cabin with a hunky alpha male, and a blizzard outside? Love the ending and how she smiles when she tells the rangers she hasn’t seen him. Really hope Stephen and River reunite in the near future.
I got an advanced copy due to being in Addison Cain’s ARC team, but don’t let that fool you as one is absorbed into the story from the opening sentence. River finds a half-dead man in a river and from there starts a very unlikely relationship between two people who are like oil and water, or possibly more like gasoline and the perfect amount of oxygen just waiting for the match to spark. I love how these two aren’t your typical run of the mill romance couple, one is a brutal, dangerous man just realizing he can now discover who he is, another is a recluse that is fighting to be alone and we really never discover what her backstory is. In this case, it doesn’t matter as when a blizzard hits and traps them indoors things heat up. Once more the usual tropes are completely avoided as there is no insta-love between these two (thank goodness!) as you’re not sure if they’re gonna kill each other or find another way to vent their frustrations. When they do find another way to vent their frustrations… holy cow! The build up was worth it as dear reader, you are *primed* for this combustion to happen. Wonderful, burning desire as only Addison Cain can write. Certainly made this reader melt.
My only complaint is that it cut off too abruptly at the end. There was so much build up, and then you were on a reading high when River and Stephen finally came together… and then it felt like you hit a brick wall full force with the short ending. Made me have whiplash and go back and re-read the last chapter to see if I had missed something. In reflection, it makes perfect sense as these are two people that cannot survive a ‘happily ever’ ending with each other, River even points this out. Still, it was extremely jarring, yet certainly an ending one should expect from our dark mistress Addison Cain.
The pages flew with this one. Between the unsung hero and misfit stray, it was oh so lovely to the nebulous end. The slow burn from despised hatred to passion well paced. What I enjoy about Addison Cain’s books is the lack of preponderance on someone’s name or story. They met, they fit, and it works for them for however long they wish. While Stephen knows River’s name, it’s unclear if she reciprocates the curiosity. It’s not River’s first time rescuing lost ones in her woods, nor will it be her last. River’s got a story worth exploring though this arc of her life ends in a satisfying, cheeky way.
If you’re looking for a quick read that packs steamy sexiness, look no further.
River is one of the most independent, hardcore survivalist I’ve ever read.
Stephen is a wanted man that finds himself at the mercy of Rivers hospitality.
The fire burns fast in this one. Grab a cup of coffee, your favorite warm blanket and snuggle in for the perfect winter read.
Loved it! Stephen is crazy in the best way and I love the way he talks. River is a no nonsense boss living in the wilds taking care of herself. She finds Stephen in the frozen waters and helps him recover but this wasn’t anything at all like I expected! Talk about entertainment! I’m dying for the next one!
A short beautifully written story like only Addison knows how. River rescued Stephen from certain death and he had been nothing but, mean, ungrateful and sexy as sin to her. But, River is a strong, I don’t need a man type of woman so she can hold her own. Great book.
Long, short, or in between. Ms Cain seems to be incapable of writing a story that does not grab you from the first paragraph and has you hooked.
This one is no exception.
The mix of senseless brutality, selfless helpfulness in an environment not conducive to grandiose gestures, and a strange kind of innocence, is packed into a tiny cabin in the middle of a snowstorm.
The life lessons given and learned in that small space of time and place are profound.
And although the ending is perfect in its straightforward simplicity, you do end up wanting to know more.
A wonderful novella from Addison Cain
River safes a man from the water and takes him back to her cabin. Caught in a snowstorm with a huge dangerous beast of a man, will she survive?
It is a story which you won’t be able to put down; it grabs your attention from the first page and it will leave you wanting more. My favorite things about the story; the characters read to each other by the fire. It soothes the beast.
