I had not read this author before so I looked forward to this one. Heartwarming was what I was looking for with this fitting that by the looks. This also turned out to be a second chance too which became a plus. Matt and Claire take you on this one with a look on how relationship can build again regardless on our interference. I say that because of his avoidance but thank goodness things went a different direction. This one gives you the warmth you need especially when things can go cold. The author has the talent and charm to give a romance that transports us for what we need.
Second changes and a dog shelter. I loved this book. I don’t know how accurate the ins and outs of the rescue/shelter were but they seemed right on from an outsiders view point. I learned lots about that, on top of really enjoying the romance and struggles between Claire and Matt. Not to mention Birdie and Bunny! Who wouldn’t love them!
I really hope we get to learn more about of Whitaker Acres in the rest of the series.

Matt Fielding is finding himself lost – we don’t always know what path to take. Claire Asher’s past has made a reappearance. They show us the good side to pet adoption. We get a perspective from the volunteer at a shelter. Claire is a good example of those that are trying to make a difference. I’m envious of what she does but I know my limits and that’s not to say that it can’t be future idea.
This author caught my heart with her secondary characters – it’s like she knows that I have a soft spot. They’re more like main characters because they are an important component to this story. But the story gave me a heavy heart having lost my fur baby several years ago. One thing that added to that feeling is that this became the perfect snuggle book.
I found myself connecting more to Claire and that’s probably because even though she helps dogs she gave Matt a purpose. But he’s having trouble with his heart – it’s running into a roadblock in the form of his mind and his stubbornness. It was a great second chance romance even though I thought at times Matt needed a good swift kick. It took almost the whole story but he finally won my approval – at times I felt that Claire could do better. This just goes to show you how well this author did in creating something that I would love to see on Hallmark. I can’t wait to see where this series is going to take me. If I had the time, I would get a fur baby to cuddle with, as I read but not sure that I would read the story to her because my mind goes faster than my mouth.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
