Heartwarming Regency Romance!
Love in the form of an outspoken governess, Miss Jenny Edgington, sneaks in to heal the Duke of Carrington’s broken heart. A truly engaging story of love and redemption in this new The Returned Lords of Grosvenor Square novel. Enjoy!
I received an arc copy and am happy to leave my honest review.
A New Home for the Duke by Rose Pearson is a clean story with an interesting premise. Basically, how do you allow grief to affect you.
Pros: Clean romance. Decent characters. Nice flow. Both characters suffered loss and it was interesting as to how differently they dealt with their grief. Nice changes in the characters.
Cons: Even though the book had a decent flow, it still got bogged down in areas. A bit more of the repetitious internal monologues for both lead characters could stand to be trimmed down.
By the end, Jenny seemed a bit too perfect.
The heroines understanding of grief and the process was nice, however, it was a bit TOO advanced for the time period.
I really don’t think the Duke would have actually been financially able to stay away from his property so often and for such long periods of time without the estate falling into disrepair.
It was interesting to watch the Duke let go of his grief, but I felt he then turned much to quickly .to Jenny.
The usual ending sentences incorrectly with prepositions. For example: “….very sweet, charming young children that I confess I have a great love for.” instead of the correct “…very sweet, charming young children for, which I confess, have a great love.”
Really, not a bad story and one I was interested in finishing. I enjoy Ms. Pearson’s books and look forward to the next novel.

The new governess has just lost her parents to a tragic fire. Making the best of things she arrived to two distraught children dealing with death of mum and father still in military. The being sent away leaves issues. When the Duke is discharged can she help him reclaim his title and deal with responsibilities? Start interacting with his children? An Interesting story. I love regency romances.

The story is heart-wrenching and endearing. Also, it is fairly relatable. I love the story and the characters. It is hard to lose a loved one and sometimes you have to let go and to learn how to love again.

This is tragic, sweet and interesting. Stephen is heartbroken over the death of his wife, so he sends his children back to England, and proceeds to drink his sorrow away. Jenny is hired as the new governess to John and Mary after the first one quit because the children’s unacceptable behavior. Jenny is shocked to learn that the children have been terrorizing the household. Rather than getting angry and disciplining them, she tries to be more understanding, because she knows that grieving alone is hard. When the Army finally has it with Stephen, he’s escorted back to England. He becomes a worse drunk at home, and completely ignores his children. Jenny has no fear about getting in the Duke’s face about his kids, or the rest of his behavior. Lucky for her, he respects that. It’s a sad story with a very happy ending.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I absolutely Loved A New Home for the Duke by Rose Pearson! Truly a phenomenal read and Pearson’ just takes us on a wonderful journey with brilliant and likable characters that are so well-developed. I just loved this story and for anyone who loves Regency Historical Romance books, then this is the one for you!
Rarely has a short story filled me with such emotion, tension, fierce desire and devotion for the characters. The only problem with this story is that it was too short. I got to the end and thought “is this it?”. The loss of a loved one regardless of whether it be spouse, father, mother, brother or sister have much in common. The direction each person takes their grief is up to them. This story covers the different POV’s of four characters; Stephen, who is the Duke, his son John, his daughter Mary and their governess Jenny. Each has dealt with their sorrow so differently it was hard to see how any could come together to cross the depth of their despair into the present world. But Jenny was a God send to the Duke’s family. This is a must read. I was a little disappointed in the ending. It felt too abrupt and made me wonder if the Duke’s affection for Jenny was what is called in today’s terms “a rebound relationship”. Other than that, it is genuinely worth the time to read.
You can lose much with the death of a loved one, including other loved ones and yourself, grief is a difficult process in life, being a Duke is not an exception. Carrington’s mourning brought him drunkenness, despair, misery, loneliness, and living in the past for too long.
Her job description is Governess, an amazing one for sure, but she’s more than a caregiver, she’s a fighter, friend, a lady, and so much more.
Feelings for each other grew over time, not that they hated each other one day and the next, bam they fell madly in love, which seems to be the case in most stories, but not this one. The dislike that Jenny felt for the Duke at first was real, but I think she knew deep down it wasn’t him. John n Mary, played the perfect children for a Duke in misery, misbehaving and causing upheaval in the home, but things change when daddy comes home. The Duke knew he had to rebuild his trust with John after all he’d put him through, even with the love he felt for his father.
And the gift to his father brought tears to my eyes!

Miss Jenny Edgington looked around her as the carriage she was in drew close to a very grand house one of the grandest she’d ever seen. She was welcomed to Prestwick house by friendly footmen who assisted her in leaving the carriage as she walked up to the door the butler opened it and the housekeeper was waiting for her Mrs. Blaine. The Duke of Carrington had sent his two children home after his wife died approximately six months ago and they have been unmanageable since they arrived home they discovered the children in her room carrying her things up John said that she would be leaving within a within a week or two marry agreed Jenny inform them that she would not be leaving that they could not run her off she would remain with them as long as was necessary. John would go to the town of Prestwick and still things they would going pick him up and return the things he stole quietly they did not study they did not listen to Jenny. Then they received word that the Duke of Carrington would be home in a few days the children quite down and Jenny wondered what would happen when their father arrived. If you want to know what happens you need to read the book. It’s a good book…
I enjoyed this sweet and emotional Regency romance with captivating characters and a well-written story that kept me entertained and engaged from beginning to end. I really liked Jenny Edgington who becomes governess to the two children of widower Lord Stephen Carrington, Duke of Edgewater while he finishes his duties overseas. Ms. Pearson has given us another winner and I look forward to book five in her must-read Returned Lords of Grosvenor Square series. The fourth book in the The Returned Lords of Grosvenor Square series is a well written book that was a book that held my interest throughout. Jenny Edgington come to be a governess to two unruly children John and Mary whose mother has died. Lord Stephen Carrington, the Duke of Edgewater has pulled away from everything including his children. Jenny is able to get Stephen to see what he is doing. I enjoyed reading. Sweet story of how people deal with the affects of grief. While some are able to grieve and still move ahead. Others choose for whatever reasons to wallow in their grief and own self pity never realizing how it effects those around them. Fortunately for Lord Carrington, Miss Edgington having dealt with loss herself is the there to help him and his children heal and find each other again. This is a wonderful addition to The Returned Lords of Grosvenor Square series.
Having read and enjoyed them all I will wait patiently for the next Lord to return.

When Jenny Edgington loses both her parents and uncle in a horrible fire she realizes she must make a life for herself. When she becomes a governess to two children who have lost their mother and their father has sent them back to England alone. Jenny feels after her loss she is especially capable of helping the children through their loss. When she arrives the children try to drive her away. Meanwhile Stephen the duke of Carrington is lost in his grief and has no desire to go home or see his children because they remind him of his deceased wife. Suddenly he’s thrown out of the army and forced to return home. Jenny is shocked but the sloppy drunk that arrives and heartbroken that the children must see their father this way after the excitement they have of his return. Jenny is outspoken and no nonsense as she tells the duke of the damage he is doing to his children. The characters in this book are wonderful! The dukes deep dark depression is disc tubes perfectly! Jenny’s love for the children and her dedication are very real. This was a great book on how the death of a wife and mother affects the whole household! The deep depression of grief and loss was excellently portrayed. Having lost all my family recently Rose Pearson has described the depth of loss very well. I really enjoyed this book and the wonderful realistic characters! I highly recommend this book and this author!

I received this book from Book sprout and am voluntarily giving an a review. I have read all the Book’s in The Returned Lords of Grosvenor Square. They are all wonderful in their own way. This one is no different.
A Duke who voluntarily joined the Army, his young wife Martha going with him. After having two children
they settle in India. Where Martha becomes ill and dies. The Duke of Carrington sends his children back to England, and falls into a severe depression over the loss of his beloved wife. He blames himself for her being there instead of back in England safe. He solves his loss in the bottle. Till he is tossed out of the Army and taken home by soldiers. There he meets the governess.
Miss Jenny Edgington is not your normal governess. She has loss both her parents and an uncle all in one
accident. She knows what grieving and loss is. She is there to help the children John and Mary
deal with the loss of there mother. Nothing could have prepare her for what is to come.
The children have taken the loss of their mother and being sent home by their father badly and
take it out on the staff, fighting, biting, not listening to anyone.
She is determined to help them no matter what it takes. After only a few weeks and not much change
the staff is told the Duke is being sent home. Everything is about to change, for the Staff, the kids
and mostly for Jenny.
So as not to give anything away, am not saying any more except this is a great book of loss, faith, 2nd chances . Great story of what can happen when one person cares, and other can learn to accept that help
Do get a copy, I know you will love it. A quick read…..
All the books in this series are great….
It’s nice to read about how love and understanding can heal the hearts of adults and children.
An interesting tale of two young children who have lost their mother and were sent back to England by their father as he decided to deal with his grief with a bottle and by serving in the military. These two “terrors” have made life miserable for all of their governess’ and keeping one for any length of time has proven fruitless. John and Mary keep their antics up with Jenny (and all of the other staff), their newest governess, but she has insured everyone that she will not be leaving – she is here for the long run. When Stephen, Duke of Carrington, returned home with an army escort, the children are bewildered and the employees hopeful. However, the Duke has not forsaken his love of the bottle and as the days pass it is evident that he has still abandoned his children who are totally lost with their father’s behaviour. But Jenny has maintained her diligence with the children and doesn’t allow Stephen to continue on as he has been. A very clean, sweet story about second chances. I would recommend this newest book by Rose Pearson.
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review.
VICKI FROM WYOMING
This is a great read. This read grabbed me right from the state. The Duke has lost his late wife. He has two kids, but he feels he must leave and have a Miss Edgington come and take care of his children. Will he return home so his children will no that he does care for them. You may need some tissue handy, this is a very emotionalbanf heartfelt read. The Author has done a fantastic job with this read. I definitely recommend this read.
