On the night of the Canterbury Golf Club’s First Annual Glow-ball Golf Tournament, Lady Captain Beatrice Yates argues with Rudolph “Ruddy” Agani in front of all the members and specially invited guests because Ruddy can’t get along with anyone. When Ruddy is found murdered on the club’s seventeenth hole soon after, Beatrice becomes the prime suspect. Even her best friend and golf partner, Trudi, … Trudi, struggles to defend her.
But Beatrice is not the only golfer who wanted to bash Ruddy over the head with a niblick. Ruddy was a stingy old coot and owed plenty of people in the small town money that he could’ve paid back, and he had carried those penny-pinching ways over to the club’s finances, too. The list of suspects looks like Saturday morning’s tee times schedule.
With her best friend, Trudi, and her cantankerous uncle Arnie at her side, retired kindergarten-teacher Beatrice is prepared to play the whole course to solve the mystery, find the killer, and repair the club’s reputation before money problems force her cherished club to close.

So much for a fun evening. Bee finds a dead body, along with 3 of her friends from the golf club, on the 17th hole. The club was already having financial problems. What will a murder do to membership?
This was a fast paced cozy with an extra murder and an attempted murder. Good thing Bee figured it out before the 3rd murder could happen.

A MURDER AT THE COUNTRY CLUB is the first book in the Canterbury Golf Club Mystery series. Each will stand on its own, but I would strongly suggest reading them in the order of release.
I really liked Miss Bea. The way she made little asides about each person’s personality is just the way that I talk and remember people. My favorite person was her nerdy, scientist, best friend, Trudi. When even your best friend is having trouble believing your innocence you know you’ve let your curiosity get too big! Still loyalty is important. It was fun to follow Trudi and Bea as they worked the golf course and their members.
I may never know a putter from a wood, but I’ll continue stepping onto the metaphorical greens at Canterbury.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: A MURDER AT THE COUNTRY CLUB
Series: Canterbury Golf Club Mystery #1
Category /Genre: Cozy Mystery
Recommended for: 14+ due to murder
Grammar/editing: received as an unedited ARC / errors excused

This is the first book by this author, Jessa Archer, that I have read. I did enjoy the way the characters where portrayed throughout the story. I have ‘some knowledge’ of golf, so the terminology wasn’t a total waste for me. The story moved along very nice. I enjoyed it. Thank you Booksprout for the copy of this book that I voluntarily reviewed.
Lady Captain Beatrice Yates is trying to get members to join or rejoin the Canterbury Golf Club. When a competitor opens up another golf club just down the road, membership begins to fall immensely and they are in dire need of staying afloat. How will they build back their membership and keep the club running? Beatrice plans a glow-ball golf tournament which seems to be going very well until a member (Ruddy Agani) ends up murdered on the club’s seventeenth hole. Who wanted Ruddy dead? Or the better question is, who didn’t want him dead?
Beatrice had a bit of an argument with Ruddy just before his murder, so she seems to be one of the main suspects in the eyes of the police. It doesn’t help that she can’t alibi herself for the time the murder took place as no one saw her in go to her office. This leaves Beatrice to put on her amateur sleuthing cap and along with the help of her best friend Trudi and uncle Arnie, they set out to find the real murderer.
This is the first book in the new Canterbury Golf Club series. It is filled with humor, suspense, mystery, lots of twists and turns, and some madcap adventure. If you love clean cozy mysteries with a touch of whimsy, then you will enjoy this book.

A nearby golf course had poached Canterbury Golf Club’s membership over the winter, so they really needed to encourage at least 43 new members to join now, as their funds were quickly depleting. So with very bad timing, on the night of their exciting First Annual Glow-ball Golf Tournament, Lady Captain Beatrice Yates intervened in a loud argument between Oliver Shwetz and the stingy, cantankerous Ruddy Agani right out in front of all the members and specially invited guests.
When they later discover Ruddy’s murdered body — including the club steak knife that murdered him — on the 17th hole, it clearly pointed all fingers toward Beatrice, who also happened to be the one who discovered the body! Fortunately, the list of suspects who wanted to see him dead is quite lengthy and may help to divert suspicion to someone else. But now she will have to save her own reputation and help the police find the real murderer!
This was a good book, with Beatrice probably being everyone’s favorite character! Having taught children, he has what it takes to sense trouble and know how to handle things. Will she find the killer? Will the murder ruin their membership drive that they so desperately need to be successful? Grab your copy and follow along as Beatrice takes on the case!
I enjoyed this mystery. I liked that Mrs. Bee was a mature character with a bit more life experience to bring to the mystery. The supporting characters were all richly drawn as well. The story was very clever. I look forward to reading more in this series.

This author has so many fantastic books and this one is one of my favorites. Okay, maybe they all are among my favorites. But this one has an awesome Beatrice who has so much going for her, now a prime suspect in the murder of a man everyone did not particularly like. Who did it? Read to find out!

Murder On The Greens is Killing The Country Club
This is a well done cozy with plenty of twists. There are plenty of suspects and motives. I got confused a few times and had to go back to check details because there are so many moving pieces. This book kept me on my toes. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprouts and this is my honest review.
I loved this book. This mystery keeps you guessing throughout. I cannot wait to see if there will be more in this series. There is a sweet romance that may or may not be brewing which makes it fun.

I usually quite enjoy books by this author but this one was not a favorite. I found the characters to be annoying more than relatable. The story was well done as usual.
During a glow ball golfing event, Rudy is found murdered at the 17th green. His niece, a local reporter, also gets murdered in her home. Beatrice with the help of her best friend Trudie investigates the murders and finds the killer.

This is a good start for a new series, especially if you like golf. I learned a lot about the sport that I didn’t know. The characters are all interesting and the story held my attention until the end, which I did not see coming. I look forward to the next book.

What could be more shocking and disruptive
to the Canterbury Golf Club First Annual
Nighttime Glow-Ball Golf Tournament?
How about finding that a club member who
stomped out of the clubhouse festivities has
been murdered with a steak knife from the
club on the seventeenth green!!!!
Beatrice Yates, a retired kindergarten teacher
now an avid golfer and Lady Captain at the club
with three other club members discover the
body. Who could the murderer be?
Then later on, a relation to the dead man who
was a reporter is found dead in her home. She
was stabbed with a steak knife from the club.
The book covers deceit, betrayal, viciousness,
greed, hatred but is also filled with friendship
trust and forgiveness.
A good blend of adventure, twists and turns
plus a touch of romance to come.
The characters are very relatable so that you
want to visit with again.
I volunteered to read A Murder at the Country
Club. Thanks to the author via Booksprout for
the opportunity. My opinion is voluntary and
my own.
I really enjoyed this story, both in the way it developed and the characters. I found Mrs. Bee (Beatrice) to be a quirky, lovable ex-kindergarten teacher who spent much of the book looking back to her teaching days and reminiscing about her former students and the other members of the Canterbury Golf Club. I thought the way the characters were introduced, with little side notes about their personalities and oddities, was sort of the way that I find myself working through in my head as I read a book. There were a lot of characters introduced so I decided to read the initial short story by Jessa Archer, The Mystery of the Missing Crystal Golf Ball, to get myself acquainted with some of the main characters from this story.
I found it cleaver the way Mrs. Bee kept digging herself deeper and deeper into the mystery and how much she was looking more and more like the guilty party. Curiosity was a strong motivator and Trudi, Beatrice’s best friend and former scientist, was hard to reign in and keep under control, which I really loved. It was interesting to find the way the story line played out and how it affected the rest of the Golf Club members.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I will most definitely purchase more of Canterbury Golf Club stories in the future so I can follow more of the shenanigans of Mrs. Bee and her friends.

The amateur detective in this series is Mrs Beatrice Yates, known as Mrs Bee from her days as the town kindergarten teacher. She makes for an entertaining and self-deprecating heroine, and is surrounded by the requisite group of supporting players to add some humor to the story. Very enjoyable. Looking forward to more in the series.

Beatrice Yates returns as the avid golfer and Lady Captain at the Canterbury Golf Club. However, she doesn’t find her missing golf ball on the 17th hole, but the body of an obnoxious fellow golfer. Now she must save her reputation from police and community inquiries. A Murder at the Country Club is an exciting novel in The Canterbury Golf Club Mystery Series that I recommend.

Mrs Bee, as she was known to generations of Kindergarten classes and their families, was an able Ladies Captain at the Golf Club. Coordinating drama prone cranky folks is an excellent skill set for working with somewhat entitled folks who can be a bit nitpicking.
Her latest membership interest drive was a night glow golf game, quite a popular event. Mostly successful- until one of Finance Team members is found dead on the course.
Using a clever mind, local knowledge and a network of friends and helpers, Mrs Bee is able to uncover more than one dark secret.
A funny and insightful series!

Jessa Archer has quickly become one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. Her stories are fun, entertaining, suspenseful and hard to put down. A Murder at the Country Club is a great story, well written and has the right amount of drama and suspense. A great cozy mystery read, with strong characters and a story you won’t want to put down,

Jessa Archer does it again! I’m charmed by Bee and her golf club. I especially want more of Trudi! What a great sidekick. Even as a non-golfer, this was a a cute cozy mystery with just enough blood and the hint at more fun to come.

A lot of golf related mystery and drama in this light hearted story. I know nothing about the game of golf, so much of the terminology was lost on me. I knew who the bad guy was from the beginning and enjoyed the game of pinning the crime on the correct individual(s). Enjoy this one.
