Debbie Macomber’s “A Mrs. Miracle Christmas” was a short, sweet novel that is sure to put readers in the Christmas spirit. It is more overtly Christian than most of the other Macomber books I’ve read to date, and given the nature of some of the story elements, readers must be willing to believe in both the power of prayer and the magic of Christmas. If it proves impossible to do that, readers may find this story difficult to enjoy.
The book focuses on married couple Laurel and Zach, who live with and care for Laurel’s elderly grandmother, Helen. Laurel and Zach have struggled with infertility for several years, and after an adoption fell through at the last minute, Laurel has given up on ever having a baby of her own to raise. Zach, however, wants to believe that there is still hope for them to have a family and, without Laurel’s knowledge, has renewed their application with the adoption agency. Thanks to the timely intervention of Mrs. Miracle, a (slightly mischievous) angel who comes into their lives disguised as Helen’s senior-care aide, it seems that Zach and Laurel will finally get their wish, but there are a few bumps along the way.
Zach and Laurel were a lovely couple and it was easy to root for them to get their wish for a family, but I was somewhat disappointed by the fact that they were so focused on adopting an infant and never considered taking in an older child. They were already approved to be foster parents, and so many older children need good homes, which Laurel and Zach were able to provide. In addition, given Laurel’s own experiences with losing her mother at such a young age and having to move in with her grandparents, it seems like she would be able to relate really well to an older child. I think Laurel would have been able to offer a lot of support and guidance on topics such as dealing with the loss of a parent and starting over at a new school, and it’s a shame that she and Zach completely ignored that opportunity.
In spite of that disappointment, I couldn’t help but like this book. It’s not the type of story I would normally pick up, but it was totally appropriate reading for Christmastime, and I did find it to be rather uplifting.

If anyone ever saw the Hallmark movies they would enjoy this book. The main character Mrs. Miracle is still here helping those in need and tells of families in the past her has helped. Just a warm holiday book.
What a wonderful and heart warming read! As usual, Debbie Macomber has written a delightful story about family and love and Christmas. Ms. Macomber’s books are ALWAYS an experience in peace and comfort, all while being well written and relatively realistic. I loved this book, as I have every other book I’ve read by Ms. Macomber, and very strongly recommend this and any of her other books.
Thank you to Netgalley, the wonderfully talented author Debbie Macomber, and Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine for my free ARC of this inspiring and truly lovely book. This is my completely honest opinion.
This is another delightful visit with your favorite angel, Mrs. Miracle. If you’ve read the other books about Mrs. Miracle, you’ll want to read this latest edition. You know things will turn out for the best (just like a Hallmark movie), but how the author takes us there is enchanting. This is a quick but delightful read to get your Christmas season off to a good start.
Mrs. Miracle does it again!!!!
What a delightful Christmas read. Ms. Macomber never disappoints!
Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “A Mrs. Miracle Christmas” by Debbie Macomber, November 2019, Arrow
Debbie Macomber has written a magical, feel-good, witty, and heartfelt holiday seasonal story. The Genres for this story are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, with a dash of Magical Realism. There is also some humor. The timeline for this story is set in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in the story, as well as the future. The author describes her characters as likable, each with their own set of problems, quirky and hopeful.
Laurel and her husband Zach have tried everything they can do to have a baby, with no success. The adoption agencies have been very disappointing. They move in with Laurel’s grandmother Helen, who has started to become forgetful and have a loss of memory. When Laurel calls an agency for someone to help Helen, she is told she will have to wait until after the holiday.
The next morning, a caretaker by the name of Mrs. Miracle arrives to help Helen. Mrs. Miracle seems to be more than the usual caretaker or nurse. Actually, there are times Mrs. Miracle’s name seems to suit her very well. While reading this story I somehow had thoughts of certain parts of the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life”
Debbie Macomber has a way of making me feel that I am drinking hot chocolate, sitting in front of the fireplace, listening to Christmas music. I have visions of Christmas trees, and white snowflakes elegantly falling. I love the way the author vividly describes the characters, the events and the season.
The author discusses important issues as Alzheimers and dementia, infertility and options, the importance of family, friends, love, and hope. This is the first book in the series that I have read, and I would highly recommend this to readers who enjoy a feelgood book with a pretty much happily ever after.
Laurel and Zach are trying to take care of Laurels Nana Helen and grieve over the loss of the little boy they thought would be theirs. Laurel decides she needs help with Nana before something more drastic happens than just her confusion. She reaches out to an agency and is sent an angel of a woman. Mrs. Miracle is right on time to help . Laurel has given up on having a family with her husband Zach after failed attempts at IVF . The last straw was the loss of her precious Jonathon.
Mrs. Miracle is gonna help fix it all with some heavenly help.. Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are waiting in the wings to pitch in . Nana has been told all that will unfold and is thrilled. I love Debbie’s books and this one is no exception. I enjoy the hope and love that is shown in this book. I received this book from the publisher to read and give my honest review.
I have read all of the previous Mrs Miracle books (and Mr Miracle), and this one is, by far my favorite. In this one Mrs Miracle shows up on the doorstep of Laurel and Zach McCullough. She says she was sent by the local home-care organization where Laurel had tried to hire help for her elderly grandmother Helen, who Laurel and Zach live with. Laurel had been told that no caregivers were available, but Mrs Miracle manages to convince them she’s the real thing. The truth is that Mrs Miracle is an angel, sent not only to help with Helen, but to secretly help the family prepare for a newborn, who they have no idea is coming. This is a quick, fun read, perfect for the holidays when time is at a minimum.
Christmas message is throughout!
another fun book from Debbie McComber
I’ve been a fan of Debbie Macomber’s Christmas stories for many years. I’ve especially loved Mrs. Miracle and Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy. It was fun having them all in the same book. This is a sweet story of unfulfilled dreams and expectations. As before, when Mrs. Miracle enters the story, wonderful and magical things begin to happen. This book brings together the spirit of the Christmas season: Faith, family, and love. The ending to this book was special, and will definitely put the reader in the spirit of the season. I’m glad to have this one on my Christmas reading shelf to reread from year to year.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
.
Another great Christmas story from Debbie Macomber, Mrs Miracle is back and brings faith to all who reads this book. I just found reading this book comforting, it really does make you believe in something greater then yourself and enjoy the magic of Christmas while reading it. A great book to put you in the spirit of Christmas.
If you need a really feel-good Christmas book to read, then you can always count on Debbie Macomber. This is the story of Laura and Zach and their desperate desire to have a baby of their own. They are living with Laura’s grandmother Helen who is suffering from dementia and needs someone to stay with her during the day while the couple works. Enter Mrs. Miracle to the rescue! The book is full of fun and tears and love and joy, just as we have come to expect from this author’s books. Touted as a Christian fiction book, I did see more elements of evangelism in this book than in previous ones, but since I am a Christian, this was a bonus for me.

Every good thing you can imagine about Christmas stories and Debbie Macomber books in general applies here. This book was heartwarming and fun, uplifting and left me with a longing not only for Christmas, but the return of the days when people treated each other well and had faith in something – a higher power, the power of love etc.
