Another great book by Debbie Macomber! Helen is an older lady that is starting with dementia. She lives with her granddaughter Laurell and her husband Zach. Both of them work and try to hire someone to come nad help take care of her. They are also trying with out luck to have a family. Aong comes Mrs Miracle who is really an Angel! This is a wonderful book about love and faith. A warm read for the season. Very well written with great characters and the subjects that are touched in this are done very nicely. Loved it so nice to read.
A Mrs. Miracle Christmas by Debbie Macomber is touching Christmas story. I began reading it and did not stop until I finished. A Mrs. Miracle Christmas has Debbie Macomber’s delightful writing which drew me right in. Her characters are developed, and the story moved along at a steady pace. Mrs. Miracle is sent by Gabriel to help Helen, Laurel and Zach. Helen has been praying for her granddaughter who has lost faith as well as hope after failed IVF treatments and an unsuccessful adoption. Zach still has hope, but he is not the praying type. Helen, Laurel’s grandmother, has dementia and her life has shrunk to the point where she sits in a chair trying to knit and watching television. With Mrs. Miracle taking care of Helen, her life expands. Helen finds new activities and new friends with her favorite being the kindly Mrs. Miracle. I thought Laurel and Zach’s struggles were realistic. I could feel their turmoil and sadness. There are some bright moments for the couple along with angelic guidance. There were humorous scenes that had me laughing out loud. I especially enjoyed Mrs. Miracle mentioning her friends, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy. Mrs. Miracle enlists their assistance for a job or two. I like the inclusion of this segment of the Twenty-Third Psalm, “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.” We see how important it is to never lose hope or faith. God does listen to our prayers and He answers them in His own way and when He feels it is time. We need to remember that patience is a virtue (like Mrs. Miracle, I struggle with this one). It also tells us that we should be grateful for what we do have instead of what we do not have. I am guilty of this as well. A Mrs. Miracle Christmas is a heartwarming Christmas tale that will lift your spirits and touch your heart. I was happy for the epilogue that beautifully wrapped up this touching tale. A Mrs. Miracle Christmas is an uplifting story with heavenly help, grandmotherly guidance, holiday happenings, a spirited Christmas Eve service and the mysterious Mrs. Miracle.
It’s like putting on a cozy sweater. Perfect holiday read.
One of Derbies best Christmas stories
A very warm hearted story filled with the Christmas Spirit. The story starts out on a sad note. Laurel McCullough has had to face the fact that her Grandmother’s dementia is progressively getting worse, to the point where she no longer can be left alone. She and her husband must make arrangements for homecare during the day.
Then there’s the fact that Laurel and her husband have been unable to have a baby. Expensive hormone futility treatments were unsuccessful leaving the couple in debt. After disappointment while trying to adopt the couple decides to give up the idea of adoption. Heart broken because she can’t have children Laura feels she has disappointed her husband.
As the holiday approaches a homecare worker unexpectedly shows up at their home and forms a special bond with Laurel’s grandmother. The homecare agency had said there wouldn’t be anyone available until after the holidays. Who is this highly qualified care giver that has made all the difference to Laurels Grandmother? Can this couple afford the extra money to keep Mrs Miracle caring for Helen. Will Mrs Miracle be able to bring joy and good cheer to this sad family in time for Christmas?
Each year I look forward to reading Debbie Macombers Christmas Novel. This year didn’t disappoint this reader. This Christmas book was different in that it wasn’t a girl meets boy during the Christmas season romance. It was a very good story about a family that had suffered a deep hurt. I truly think it’s one of Debbie’s better Christmas stories.
I highly recommend it to all fans of Debbie Macomber. Especially those who love her Christmas books. Add it to your want to read Book shelf this Christmas and be sure to read it. You will be glad you did.
I downloaded a Kindle ebook version from Amazon. A favorable review was not requested. All opinions expressed and shared here are my own.
I absolutely loved this story. I was so glad to enjoy Mrs. Miracle again. I shed a few tears of sadness, but definitely laughter and tears of happiness at the end. Perfect Christmas story. Laurel, Zach and Helen find that prayers and faith can be answered. Miracles do happen. I’ve been a reader of Debbie Macomber for years. It was so enjoyable to see that Shirley, Goodness and Mercy made an appearance in the book. That was such a feel good series too. Maybe Hallmark will turn this one into a Christmas movie too! Just will miss Doris Roberts.
Before I start a Debbie Macomber story, I know to have plenty of time to read & a box of Kleenex nearby. Plenty of time to read because once I start the first page I know I will be so enthralled with the story that I won’t put it down until the last word is read. A box of Kleenex due to the way Ms. Macomber manages to pull your emotions out so completely. I cry. I laugh out loud. I sit & just smile while I’m reading each precious word.
A Mrs. Miracle Christmas is an emotional, heartwarming story that is perfect for the Christmas season. From the first word, I was swept up in Laurel & Zach’s struggle to move forward without the family they so desperately wanted. Zach’s faith and hope uplifted the heart even as Laurel’s despair and pain created tears. I was particularly drawn to Helen, Laurel’s Nana. My own grandmother suffered from dementia in the last years of her life & Helen’s life & experiences mirrored those we experienced with my grandmother. This was a truly wonderful story reminding us of the miracles of the Christmas season & to never lose faith.
As soon as I received notice that this book was available on NetGalley, I immediately requested it. This is the third book about Mrs. Emily Merkle, also known as Mrs. Miracle and it lives up to its heritage. The first two were made into Hallmark movies and I can see this installment also making a wonderful Christmas movie. The late Doris Roberts will always be Mrs. Miracle in my mind.
Laurel and her husband Zach live with Laurel’s grandmother Helene/Nana both to save money and to take care of her. When it’s obvious that Helene’s memory is slipping, they request assistance from Caring Angels, an in-home care service. When Mrs. Miracle arrives at their door a few hours later, their lives will never be the same, as is usual with anytime Emily Merkle/Miracle appears.
Mrs. Miracles knows things about the family and Nana that she wouldn’t normally know, about the past and the future. While the care of Nana is the central theme, the care of Laurel and Zach in their struggle with being childless is also a major concern. Debbie Macomber writes wonderful stories addressing serious issues with love and compassion. This book is another in the long list of endearing tales.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. The comments above are my personal opinion.
Heartwarming Christmas story that will make you believe in Angels. Lauren and Zach have had their heart broken in the past – first by not being able to conceive and then by having an infant taken back by the parent. All they ever wished for was to be parents. With the help of Mrs. Miracle the hope that they lost is restored and their wishes are granted. With beautifully written characters and a wonderful holiday storyline this will become one you will want to read over and over.
Great book
The book was everything above plus more. It’s hard to put everything down that you’re thinking of. I recommend this book because of the Christmas Spirit, because of Romance, because of Love, because of Family. Because the book is so darn good you won’t be able to put it down till you’re finished it. That’s how good of a read it is.
Loved this book
Debbie is the Queen of holiday reads! Winter just isn’t the same without indulging in one of her books.
This is an emotional journey between a Laurel and Zach. She’s given up on motherhood, natural and adoption. Zach just wants Laurel to be happy, baby or no.
I don’t tend to love female characters who finds their value and self-worth only in motherhood. It’s an admirable goal certainly, but I like to think women are special in their own rights. The way Debbie writes Zach’s love for Laurel really made this a cozy, feel good read.
This was a hard book for me to read. It was really good though. Dementia hits me close to home so reading about it is sometimes difficult. Infertility is also a topic in this book. If you have issues with either of these beware. Otherwise this was a beautiful Christmas miracle story. Mrs Miracle was a delight as was Nana Helen.
I don’t care for Romance writers (I don’t care for Romance books in general) but I love Debbie Macomber’s Christmas stories. My favorites are of Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, with Mrs. Miracle a very close second!
A Mrs Miracle Christmas by Debbie Macomber is an absolute delight. I adored the original book and loved reading this additional story. It’s a book full of hope and the magic of the season. Readers should be aware that it deals with infertility and failed adoptions. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Dreaded Dumps But Good Characters and Story
Although I am a voracious reader of feel-good stories (mostly) and this author has been publishing for decades, I hadn’t read one of her books until this one.
I loved how she tackled tough issues like infertility and dementia with a sure but deft touch, making it so the heavy themes did not detract from the holiday vibe of this book. These weighty subjects could have easily bogged down the story. Instead, they became the foundation for miracles and character growth. The story certainly had that wonderful holiday feel that you want from a book set at Christmas. The people involved in this story are decent, good people who are having a hard time. Those kinds of stories pull at the heartstrings as we want characters like that to ultimately have a better life and triumph.
But one thing surprised me, and not in a good way. Frankly, I was surprised at the large information dump in the first scene (and others scattered throughout). I normally associate the dreaded data dump with early-career authors or those who are self-published, with no guiding hand from a judicious editor to make sure the author doesn’t make this rookie mistake. But once I got past the info dump sections, I quite enjoyed the characters and the heartfelt family drama.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I don’t enjoy the Mrs. Miracle books as much as all the others that Debbie Macomber writes. I read them as often as I can other than these anymore. I have read several of the Mrs. Miracle books.
Debbie Macomber is one of my favs. Don’t think I’ve read one I didn’t enjoy.
I LOVE Debbie Macomber! This is a great read and very uplifting!
A must read. Although Mrs Miracle is a common name when addressing angels, her task this time is new and wonderful.. The characters in this book are endearing and a joy to follow on this heavenly journey. A magical Christmas story!
