A Mother’s Touch is a heart-warming collection of short stories inspired by Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” See Lady Anne through the eyes of Georgiana, in “Lady Anne’s Quilt.” Experience the relationship young Fitzwilliam has with his mother in “An Act of Kindness” and “Our Special Day.” Then join Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth and discover how wonderful it is to have Lady Anne’s influence in … their lives as they become parents in “Our future.”

I loved the cover on this book as it sets the tone for the story. This was several generations of mothers. We have Lady Anne as she comes out in society and her relationship with Mr. Darcy the younger. Yeah, that was cute. We also watched as Lady Catherine tried to manipulate her wishes and desires for the control of Pemberley over her younger sister when she birthed a son. Not going to happen. Oh, the letters and items Lady Anne left for her children will just grip your heart. My goodness! Have a tissue handy.
There were several stories with Lady Anne and young Fitzwilliam. Wickham even then was a sneaky, lazy kid bent on causing trouble. Oh, how young Fitzwilliam loved his mother. My heart just broke for him at her loss.
“God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.” –David C. Gross, Dictionary of 1000 Jewish Proverbs
We have Georgiana’s time to bask in the letter and items from her mother. What a darling girl. Elizabeth was so good to her. This was a sweet story. Sniff… again… have those tissues handy.
“The meaning of life is the smile of a mother.” ― Lilly
Then we have Elizabeth and her confinements. Poor Darcy… it never got any easier but, over time, he trusted that she would be well. We have them interacting with their children. Lovely.
Well done, Jen… brava. [5-17-20] I won an e-book copy in a random drawing during one of Jennifer’s tour stops at Meredith’s ‘Austenesque Reviews’ with no expectations of a review. The views and opinions expressed are my own. Special thanks go to Jennifer and her publisher for the generous giveaway during the promotion tour for her book.

Warning: I’m sorry I couldn’t resist the mother jokes: some may be bawdy. Advance with caution… don’t drink or eat while reading.

“Does your ma know you’re this silly?” she demanded tartly.
He nodded, comically sad. “The few gray hairs she has on her head are my doing. But” –with an exaggerated change of mood – “I send her plenty of money, so she can pay to have them dyed!”
“I hope she beat you as a child,” Onua grumbled.”
“My first words, as I was being born […] I looked up at my mother and said, ‘that’s the last time I’m going up one of those.” –Stephen Fry
A wonderful series of short stories that fit together influenced by Darcy and Elisabeth in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. A glimpse in to Darcy’s mother, Lady Anne, before she married his father and what Darcy’s life was like as she taught him as a child to love nature. What she taught him helped him manage and take care if their estate as well as nurture and teach what he had learned to his son.
As Georgiana and Elizabeth discovered treasures in the attic, they were able to learn about Lady Anne from her journals and the things they found. Also, talking to those who knew her. Georgiana was able to learn about the mother who died when she was young feeling a closeness to her.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and this is my honest opinion.
