Lady Adelaide Berkeley’s life has changed drastically. Her father is dead and his unscrupulous business dealings have been paraded all over the newspapers. Destitute and alone, Adelaide makes the difficult decision to leave England until the scandal has passed. She feels the perfect place to visit is her aunt’s cattle ranch in the Wyoming Territory. However, when she arrives, she discovers that … that she is half-owner of Brisbane Ranch. The other half belongs to a handsome, but infuriatingly brooding cowboy.
Broderick Wakefield has worked hard to make Brisbane Ranch one of the most profitable cattle ranches in all of the Wyoming Territory. When the spoiled, pretentious Lady Adelaide shows up to claim her inheritance, he can’t believe she would give up her pampered life in England to live on a cattle ranch. He becomes determined to see her gone and will stop at nothing to ensure that happens.
As Broderick sets out to prove that Adelaide doesn’t belong on Brisbane Ranch, he is surprised by her tenacity, despite the rigorous demands of ranch life. When his life is threatened, he finds himself turning to the one person he wanted to see gone, forcing him to recognize that Adelaide isn’t as horrible as he first believed. When someone from Adelaide’s past shows up, can Broderick prove that he really is the man for her, or will it be too late?

I was really excited to read this new book by author Laura Beers simply because it was a change of genre and I liked the idea of the British aristocracy meets western cowboy crossover. Set in the end of the 1800s, I enjoyed reading a time period I also don’t see a lot of books written in.
This book shows a lot of potential for Beers’ new series. I’m hoping to see stories for the cowhands and Pauline. I liked Adelaide and Broderick, but I wished for a bit more depth to their romance. It was there in parts, but not at the level I wanted. The book was an easy read and overall, I enjoyed reading it. Content is very clean.
It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book that was so well edited! I loved the characters and how they stretched and grew into the people they needed to be. I also love having an epilogue, so you can see a bit into the future, and things fair. This book was a pleasure to read, from start to finish
Wonderful characters that capture your heart. This is regency meets Wild West bringing out the best of both. Adelaide was so sweet but could give you a tongue lashing if need be, she is a strong character. I laughed and smiled a lot while reading this story, so much to love about it. A sweet clean romance that is very heartfelt.
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I liked the determined spirit of the heroine in the book. She just didn’t quit even when the co-owner tried to work her so hard she wanted to quit. It was a bit of a mystery as to who was teeing to hurt the main guy by planting traps for him but it was a nice clean romance.
I received a complimentary copy for my honest review.
This is such a delightful story filled with intrigue, romance, and even a little suspense. The storyline had me enchanted from the first page and there were some nice plot twists to keep me guessing. This is a very well-written story that just comes to life as you read it. In this story we are taken through two different societies and culture – from the ton of England to the Wild West. Ms. Beers is an excellent storyteller and she really has a talent for capturing the reader’s attention right from the very start and keeping them hooked till the very last page. This book was no different. The characters were so wonderful and endearing you can’t help but fall in love with them. Adelaide and Broderick have led very different lives, but they couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Adelaide leaves England to go to Wyoming to claim her inheritance of a cattle ranch. Broderick has worked hard to make this cattle ranch successful and believing Adelaide is nothing but a pampered, spoiled lady, he wants nothing more than for her to leave. As she starts to show she is willing to learn and rises to the challenge, Broderick realizes there is more to her than meets the eye. This was not your typical Regency story and I absolutely loved the storyline. I could not put it down. Looking forward to see what Ms. Beers has in store for her readers next!
I received a complimentary advanced reader’s copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
I thought this was such a sweet romance. Set in the Wild West, it has a different feel than Laura’s other books. It’s a fresh storyline of a girl with a shared inheritance with a cowboy and how they work to make the ranch and their co-living lives to work. Romance blossoms and I loved every page!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it. I’m so excited for this new series. This book was a great start. Good storyline with the right amount of action. Cute, clean romance to top it off.
This is a beautifully written story. It’s full of all the things you want from a book. Love, redemption, growth, happiness, a little mystery, and a happy ending.
Nice sweet romance that has Addie needing to overcome many complications before she finds her forever happiness
When I say this book brought me out of a month long reading slump I am not kidding. I absolutely adored this book. Broderick is greeted with city slicker Adelaide. They both have a share in a ranch that he was sure he would be the sole owner in. Both have issues to overcome one dealing with the sudden death of a wife and “adoptive” parents and the other dealing with the loss of a father and a complete overhaul of the life she is used to. This story was a fun read and I highly recommend it. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
*i was given an arc of this story. My opinions are my own*
What a great start to Laura Beers’ new series, Brides of Forsaken Bank! A Misplaced Lady was a lovely story that spoke of finding inner strength in difficult and new circumstances. I really enjoyed Adelaide’s persistence, good attitude, and courage. I also enjoyed Broderick’s strong character and the eventual softening of his heart. Their love story was sweet and clean. The ending was great and I especially enjoyed the glimpse of their future years. A great story!
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own and are expressed voluntarily.
This is a cute first book in a new series by Laura Beers. I loved how it was an easy read and one that kept my attention the whole time. I love how Addie and Broderick had to let down the walls they built around their hearts in order to let love in. I loved how even though they both went through a lot of loss they were able to bond over that. I also loved how she used humor to show Addie trying to do the ranch chores. My favorite part was probably how Broderick tried to get Addie to leave but by the end he realized that she meant so much to him that he would do anything to have her stay. This was a great first book and I look forward to reading other ones in the series.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
I thought this was a good book, I was surprised when I realized it had a western theme to it. Lady Adelaide is the daughter of marquis, with wealth and rank in the ton. When her father dies, her life as she knows it dies too. I really like the character of Lady Adelaide, she doesn’t let her troubles get her down, she finds a way to make the best of it. When she arrives in Wyoming territory to discover her Aunt and Uncle have also passed away, she faces it head on. Broderick acts like a big strong cowboy, but he really is sweetheart. I thought the story was interesting and surprising, there were some good twists and turns. It is a sweet clean romance. If it’s part of a series, I will definitely be reading more.
A Misplaced Lady takes the reader through two extremes of society and culture. Lady Adelaide is was raised amongst the English gentry. Through no fault of her own, she is shunned by society when a scandal erupts after the death of her father. She is alone with no one to turn to other than an aunt who moved to a cattle ranch in Wyoming. Adelaide goes from a life of luxury to a life of milking a cow.
The thing that I loved about this book is that Adelaide rises to the circumstances she is placed in. She is resilient and honorable. She puts up with Broderick and his antics when she arrives. She discovers her aunt is dead and she is part owner of the ranch. Broderick is the other owner. He doesn’t make it easy for her, yet she adjusts and thrives.
The romance in this book is slow. I liked that aspect. The characters got to know each other before they had feelings for the other. I loved the pacing, the characters, and the setting.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
At age twenty-one Lady Adelaide Berkeley seems to have the perfect life. She’s the daughter of a Marquess and is engaged to the handsome Lord Ewan Montague. ‘Seems’ being the operative word. When her father suddenly dies, their solicitor tells her she’s basically destitute. Her father’s investments hadn’t “panned out”, and she only has £5,000 left to her from her mother who died the previous year. Everything of value in the home she grew up in will be auctioned to pay the creditors. She must move out of Buckshire Manor until the new owner, a distant cousin, arrives to take possession of it. To add insult to injury her so called friends have abandoned her and Lord Montague cancels their engagement because her father’s failed investments have been reported in the paper and Adelaide’s family name is now surrounded by scandal. The only relative she has left is an aunt who moved to the Wyoming Territory a decade previous. So, Adeline decides to go to America to visit her aunt until the scandal blows over. Upon arriving in Forsaken Bank, WY with her lady’s maid, she discovers her aunt and uncle died three months ago and she’s now part owner of the Brisband Ranch.
Broderick is NOT happy to see a “pretentious, spoiled, pompous, woman” with a title at his ranch. Yes, she’s co-owner as longer as she lives on the ranch, but if he can get her to leave the ranch will be his. He figured it wouldn’t take long to get her to see she was not meant to live on a ranch.
I really enjoyed this fish-out-of-water and opposites attract story although I didn’t like Broderick for half of the book. I did enjoy it when his scheme to get Adelaide to leave came back to bite him. Served him right. Broderick wasn’t a bad guy, but he had judged Adelaide without knowing anything about what she’d been through. It wasn’t until Adelaide found out about his scheme to get her to leave and refused to speak or be around him, that Broderick was willing to admit to himself he had feelings for her.
I liked Adelaide–she was willing to learn to do almost anything Broderick challenged her to do while also learning cooking skills from Mrs. Huntley. She even got Russell the Rooster to quit attacking her when she gathered the chicken eggs in the morning. I also liked Pauline, Adelaide’s lady’s maid turned schoolteacher and hope she finds love soon. I adored the housekeeper Mrs. Huntley and how she gently taught Adelaide and Pauline to cook, and do things around the ranch.
Westerns are not my favorite genre, but I haven’t read a Laura Beers book I didn’t like and this Victorian Western was no exception. I enjoy suspense and this one had just a smidge of it in addition to the romance. I look forward to reading the other books in this new series.
This story takes you from the ton of England to the Wild West. Adelaide is much stronger than Broderick takes her for. He wants her to return to England and give up her share of the ranch. But she completes every chore that he throws at her. They become friends and something much more is brewing. But when Adelaide finds out Broderick was trying to get rid of her, he may lose the woman he is falling for. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Ms. Beers has such a talent for pulling in the reader from the first page! I honestly didn’t want to ever put the book down but when I did I could t stop thinking about the storyline. Excellent mix of the a Wild West with that of formal England. Superb character development! I certainly hope Miss Pauline gets her own story.

I really enjoyed this new serie. Victorian western is a great change of pace from my usual historical read.
I loved the characters.
Broderick is a nice man with a loving personality. While Adelaide is a naive young lady she has a strong enough nature not to be boring.
I loved their interactions.
I highly recommend this story and this new serie.
