I’m on what’s supposed to be a peaceful writing hiatus. I should have known better than to bring a Baldacci book. A MINUTE TO MIDNIGHT ensured that the “peaceful” part never took place. I thoroughly enjoyed another exceptional throat-clutching storyline—right to the very last page.
David Baldacci is indeed the king of suspense thrillers in my opinion. He has a way of weaving a storyline that fits perfectly in what is going on in the world today. He really gets you thinking. This is the second book in a new series about Atlee Pine. She has issues from her childhood that have left her somewhat flawed, but becomes an FBI agent. She wants to do what’s right for her country and the people she’s supposed to protect, especially children. All the while she’s trying to find out what happened that horrible night when she was six years old and her twin sister went missing and she almost died. While doing some investigating in her old hometown, a murder spree starts. She assists the authorities to find the culprit(s). I couldn’t put the book down. And what a terrific ending. Obviously there’s going to be another book and I can’t wait.
In this, the saga of FBI Agent Atlee Pine, continues. She returns to her hometown to reopen the investigation of her twins disappearance and is drawn into an apparent serial killers beginning a series of staged killings that make no sense except to the disturbed killer! During this reign of killings Agent Pine finds out something that shakes up her memories of her childhood!
David Baldacci does a fine job with his second book in the Atlee Pine series. Pine, an FBI agent looking for her lost twin sister, kidnapped during their childhood years, goes back home for answers. The story uses the Deep South of Civil War reenactments, Andersonville, Atlanta, Savannah as a superb backdrop to tell the haunting story.
First few chapters are rough going, but it gets better. This second Atlee Pine book is much better than the first.
This was an entertaining book with many twists. I would not have guessed the eventual outcome. Definitely worth reading.
I read this in two days. Absorbing, page turning and things you didn’t see coming.
I’ve never read a book by David that I didn’t like.
Great entertainment! Atlee discovers new info about her past & catches a serial killer as well. Wish the next book was on the horizon! Loved the narrators of this Audible book.
Definitely worth the read. Baldacci is one of the greats.
This is Baldacci’s sercond novel featuring the FBI Agent Atlee Pine. The unusual thing is her FBI duty station is in the southwest, more specifically, Arizona. The character has been carefully developed (I think Baldacci is a master at this) into a likeable yet efficient FBI field agent who is not afraid to deviate from what most would think to be the “safe path. Atlee was the twin sister of Mercy Pine who was adopted whe both girls were very young. Atlee doesn’t know why her sister was selected as the abductee and part of her mission is to find this out. It might be a good idea to read the first novel in the series “Long Road to Mercy”
Great read….of Course I like the author
great book! David Baldacci is a genius
Baldacci introduces a new character with Atlee Pine. Another great novel.
Excellent as usual!
Outstanding book! A real page-turner. I am patiently waiting for the next book in this series to be released.
Great author
Excellent!
Although it kept the mystery of what happened to her sister going—I’d hoped it would be spelled out in this book.
3.5s. MY main problem with this book is that I figured out one of the main mysteries immediately; something that the main character didn’t figure out until the last page. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy figuring out mysteries in books but right before the characters do, not a whole book before. I can’t say more without giving something huge away but this is still a good book, and I recommend it, but I wish either the main character had been quicker on the uptake or I hadn’t been able to figure it out until right before she did. I am definitely still going to follow this series!
