Sometimes love happens at the most unexpected times and in the most unexpected places. Sometimes it quietly sneaks up on you, and sometimes it knocks you over on a London street, just as it happens to Lord Graelem Dayne when Laurel Farthingale’s horse runs him over and breaks his leg. Graelem has until Midsummer’s Day, a mere thirty days away to find a wife or lose a large inheritance, so when a … a remorseful Laurel begs his forgiveness and promises to do anything, anything for him, he takes her up on that promise and insists that she marry him.
Laurel Farthingale has no intention of becoming Graelem Dayne’s biddable bride and is furious that he’s tricked her into a betrothal. She plans to marry another, her long-time friend and childhood infatuation who is now in London to propose to her, for she’s a Farthingale and everyone knows that Farthingales only marry for love. But as she comes to know Graelem, she realizes that he may very well be the man she’s destined to love. Can he ever love her above his desire to secure his baronial fortune?

A cute story about a relationship beginning on the wrong foot but evolving on the right path.
It do liked this second book in this series (even if it is the 4th published, it is the romance of the second eldest Farthingale daughter).
I smiled a lot with Laurel’s attics and Graelem‘s wits or lack of it when around her.
Laurel comes from a loving family, she was always surrounded by love and affection, never doubting of anything until her certainties are shackled by Graelem’s entrance in her life. She is a true spitfire, often acting before thinking and easily angered when around her unexpected betrothed. But he makes her feel also things she never knew she could, awakening a different Laurel.
Graelem was raised the opposite of Laurel, he grew up doing his duties for his family but never loved nor really cared for. Meeting Laurel is like crossing the twilight dimension, where everyone cares for another, interferes with each other’s matters, while he was always left alone.
She shows him what it is to be loved.
“They weren’t demands. They were confirmation that I existed, that my life had meaning. That someone cared if I lived or died.”
The first part seing them discovering who is really the other was fun and had lot of smiling moments, while the end was more focused on thwarting the plots and betrayals of some bad guys, with more angst and less laughing periods.
In all, it was a nice story, with a bunch of silly girls for this area and even if the suspense part was easily exposed it stayed still entertaining to read by how they will unravel it.
A good read.
A good story with fun characters
Her books are a lot of fun to read!
First of all, yes the books are written in a backwards order & this bothered a lot of people but I found each story to be so good that it didn’t matter. Meara Platt writes her books with such wonderful characters that you feel you are part of the Farthingale family in all the books. Laurel Farthingale & Lord Graelem Dayne are the happy couple in this book & what a fun romp it was. There were laughs, broken legs, romance, forced marriage, endearing family & friends, romance, love, danger, spice & a HEA – tell me what else you could want in a romance novel? I can’t wait to read Julian & Rose’s story in Book 5!I I highly recommend this series or any one of the books for a wonderful & entertaining reads.
Just loved this book. I was captivated from the first paragraph. Loved how the author showcased these characters.
Love the Farthingdale family! What a cast of characters- a fun read
I enjoyed this book. The heroine was smart and strong, mostly. The storyline, I found was on the edge of believable. But i did find it interesting.
Entertaining! A good story to curl up with and relax while having a few laughs.
A delightful story about one of the flowery Farthingale flowers. What a family! Lots of Farthingale family members and off shoots get into all sorts of tangles. Fun reads.
An indecent spirit with a dedicatiin to her beliefs and not to conventional thoughts. Easy reading and entertaining
Charming story about Laura of the Featheringale five sisters. Her meeting with Greathem of Scotland and the story of their romance is funny, lovely and interesting. Great read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a truly great read.
Good writing style, compelling story. The ending felt rushed, but ended nicely.
really,really enjoyed this book.
A good Summer read. Recommend.
This is one of those books that you can hardly stand to put down,it keeps you guessing, and at the same time you don’t want it to end.
This was a fun book to read.
I like historical romance novels and I was entertained by this one.
Well written and was not too predictable aside from the fact you knew it was going to be an happy ever after
