“I believe there’s some sort of disturbance in the æther surrounding mothers as spring approaches. They’re bound and determined to get their offspring settled…”Lord Linfield to Miss Glynde-Beauchamp, The Derby Ball, London, February 1818Miss Rose Glynde-Beauchamp is both charming and intelligent, but not quite in the highest tier of London’s most eligible young ladies. Her mama, however, is … ladies. Her mama, however, is determined to see Rose married well, whether she likes it or not, and that means the threat of Almack’s rather than the fun of the Wednesday Club. For an unusually gifted young lady like Rose, it’s a potential nightmare hanging over her head.
Enter Lord Miles Linfield, whose mama is also on a similar marriage-rampage. Commiserating with Rose, Miles hatches a convenient plan that will save them both from endless maternal nagging.
They discover a shared interest in music, which takes them down an unexpected path to a few surprises. They must solve a theft, get soaked to the skin, deal with a very unusual ménage, wear outrageous clothing and rescue a wayward copyright from greedy hands. Rose has to let go of some erroneous notions, and Miles must try and control some of his.
Was Shakespeare right? Is music truly the food of love? That may well depend on just how hungry one is when the right melody comes along…

Rose and Miles needed to escape the knot with which their mothers were squeezing them. As good friends that shared a passion for music, they concocted a plan that seemed without fault. But, the reading of a not proper book for a lady, had peaked Miss Rose curiosity and she felt ready for another step only, not the one you would expect for a well born Miss. That book is a danger in the misses’ hands! And Rose had a secret that made things worse. An interesting story, funny and intriguing with a miss who was not shy to express her sensuality and desire. I liked Miles’ character. A gentleman enduring the whirlwind that was Rose. Good and interesting the music theme and the mystery that was woven around it. In addition, hints were presented about the interests of the other Mises that left me intrigued. These misses have their thing!
Another lovely story set in The Wednesday Club. This is the second book in this series and what I like about them is that they are out of the norm. Rose and Miles are quirky characters who take life on full steam ahead and do not worry too much about what others think. These characters endear themselves to us as readers. I also love the idea of The Wednesday Club – a place where those go who do not have vouchers for Almack’s. Looking forward to the rest of the series. You kind of get a glimpse of the next book in this story.

Another wonderful story to continue the series
This is another wonderfully written story that continues the series with aplomb. The plot is brilliantly conceived, with plenty of twists and turns and a mystery to be solved. The characters are portrayed beautifully with the strength and determination to overcome their fears. This is a great book for all those who love steamy historical romances that have a bit of suspense.
I am not so patiently waiting for the next book in this series
“Society is a greedy bitch with an insatiable appetite for anything that smacks of spice.”
Truer words were never spoken for the Regency period! Miss Rose Glynde-Beauchamp is being pressured by her mother to wed as soon as possible. However, Rose is much more interested in composing and playing music on her harp-lute.
Lord Miles Linfield is also being pushed by his family to marry and produce an heir. Since he and Rose share a love of music and are already friends because of the Wednesday Club, they decide to fake an engagement to relieve some of the demands on their lives.
Of course, our two begin to have feelings for each other and soon, Miles proposes true marriage. But, Rose suffers from synesthesia, which causes her to see colors in music. She has been lead to believe that this will lead to madness and she refuses to marry for that reason.
The story progresses nicely, with all of the elements that I have come to love in Regency romances. But, Ms. Kelly adds so much more to her books. Eccentric characters abound and the girls in the book are interested in the more sensual things of life than is deemed proper. There is also an element of mystery to this book when Miles and Rose try to discover who has stolen her music.
There is a HEA ending (of course!) after a few misunderstandings and stumbling blocks along the way. This is a well-written and greatly entertaining book, full of wonderful characters and all of the normal things that I have come to expect from a Regency romance. I would love to know more about Miles’ eccentric Aunt Viola and her companions and Rose’s Uncle Sinjun as well.
I was given the chance to read this book through a review group and chose to review it. This in no way affects my opinion of the book.
Wow, author does a great job! Love this series and love this author’s writing style for this genre. Rose is just a delightful and down to earth character, her straight-forwardness adds humor to the story which is very much appreciated by me, instead of all the snobbishness. 🙂 I like Miles too, he is perfect for her, very convincing and handles Rose boldness in stride. Love their story and remained glued to the pages from beginning to end. Looking forward to the next Wednesday Club addition, these girls are great friends and really exemplify true friendship. I received a copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.
