Join Becky as she solves many mysteries in this light, clean, airy, and informative five-book series. Some might consider her naïve. And she is. She’s had little knowledge of a larger world others might live outside … outside North Carolina. On the other hand, she’s had a lot of experience dealing with ghost problems.
Becky didn’t ask for the job of a medium, but after her parents died, the unusual ability became a bequest – a gift handed down from her mother’s side of the family. An optimistic and positive young woman, Becky determines to make the best of a difficult situation in a small town where the smallest detail is noticed and everyone knows everything about everyone else.
Living in Asheville, North Carolina, Becky deals with a lot of departed spirits in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Such a job can get rather hectic at times. Misunderstood ghosts can create a lot of sticky problems for the living and a community such as hers.
Becky has the gift the same as her brother and sister. The only difference is that her siblings don’t want anything to do with their paranormal abilities and they’ll do anything in their power to drown out those disembodied souls who plead for help.
Used to dealing with ghosts on a daily basis, Becky is not easily surprised. However, on her 26th birthday, Becky gets the biggest shock she’s had in the past ten years and it’s a doozy.

A Medium’s Birthday Surprise: A Cozy Ghost Mystery (Becky Tibbs: A Medium’s Mystery Series Book 1) by Chariss K. Walker combines murder, mystery and ghosts. After their parents’ death, siblings discover they have inherited their parent’s psychic ability. Set in beautiful Asheville, North Carolina, Becky Tibbs wants to help an angry soul with a personal connection to her cross over to the other side. But can she? Well written and exciting with strong characters, this is a great start to Medium’s Mystery Series.
Sweet ghost filled mystery. Have both audio and e-book version.
I can’t wait to see what happens next with the Tibbs family.
The narrative brings the story to life. I definitely will be listening to it again.
This audio book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
I don’t usually read anything to do with mediums and ghosts. However, for some reason, i thought I would take a look at this novel and I have to say I really enjoyed it. After their parents’ death, three siblings learn that they have the ability to see and speak to ghosts. But only one of them, Becky, is willing to use her gift and actually become a Medium. She helps grieving relatives to get over their loss, while aiding new ghosts to come to terms with the fact they have died. But then something happens at her birthday party, which reopens a ten year old murder case, which she is determined to solve.
I found this to be a most enjoyable, light hearted read. Not to be missed.
This story is about Becky Tibbs, who is a medium, which is defined as a person who is thought to have the power to communicate with the spirits of the dead. Becky uses this gift to help the ghosts that she interacts with. The story is both charming and entertaining without being overtly graphic. Kathleen Britt’s narration is good and her voice is clear. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book. This book was in the wrong category for me and should be in the cosy mystery section instead of horror, so don’t left that put you off listening to the book because it is more funny than scary. I liked the way the three siblings coped or didn’t cope with there powers, it made it interesting and the characters more like able, especially Becky who was willing to use her powers to talk to some quirky ghosts, even a ghost dog paid a visit. The mystery was interesting, and I liked the way Becky helped a ghost who didn’t know he was dead, mainly by solving his murder and helping him move on. Over all a fun new series that I will be keeping an eye out for more, as I want to find out what the author has in store for the siblings.
Three siblings all have different reactions to Becky’s birthday, her sister hired from it and her brother barely tolerates it but Becky has never feared it until now. Her ex boy friend shows up for the party, the only problem is he has been dead for the last ten years and he doesn’t seem to know. Becky the only one of the siblings to embrace her gift to talk to ghosts sets out to find out why he ran out on her birthday party ten years ago and just how he got himself killed? She had better hurry because the more her ghostly ex remembers the more angry he gets and that only spells trouble for Becky.
I liked the narrator, she has a very laid back approach to her reading which makes the story easy to listen to.

This is the first book in the Becky Tibbs: A North Carolina Medium Mystery Series, in which medium Becky Tibbs uses her paranormal abilities to help solve mysteries and help ghosts find peace.
While skeptics might think that such blending of cozy mystery and paranormal investigation sounds contrived, Walker has created characters and storylines that seem realistic and eminently believable. A range of world views and perspectives are represented by different characters in the story, and the reader is respectfully left to draw their own conclusions.
Regardless of one’s philosophy and world view, this is a really interesting and well-crafted mystery story. Becky’s path to solving the mystery is challenging and complex, and she must rely on investigation and logic to solve the problems she encounters along the way.
The writing is good and the action and intrigue of the story builds well, right up to the end of the book.
This is a series I would like to read more of.
A Medium’s Birthday Surprise was just that. This book is filled with love, and ghosts. Did I say ghosts? The title met its expectations. I was surprised and wonderfully intrigued. Becky interacts with and advises the departed in a loving calm manner making their possible existence just one tick closer, which is all I ask of a book. This is a beautifully written book that effortlessly connects you to its characters both the living and the not so living. Chariss K. Walker has written a unique story filled with more possible variations of love and loss than I anticipated. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
There’s a lot happening in this book, but it is very well written and keeps you intrigued.
Becky has been seeing ghosts ever since her parents passed away, her siblings as well, but they try to distance themselves from it. Things get rolling when Josh, Becky’s boyfriend who was killed 10 years ago, shows up and creates havoc for those around.
It’s very clear who killed Josh, but the information you learn about each character involved sets the story up to continue on and give you a better feel of the character themselves.
The story does touch a little on alcoholism and perception drug abuse, so please be aware. If you have these issues, please seek help.
I received this book for free for my honest and sincere review.
What a cute fun little story! Ghosts and mysteries go great together! I enjoyed the characters and the story! Thanks to Book Sirens for the early copy!
When Becky Tibbs parents are killed in a car accident, she and her siblings discover they have the ability to act as mediums. Although, Becky is the only one willing to help out the spirits, as her brother and sister would rather drown them out by self-medicating.
Becky is having a birthday party and everyone is invited, dearly departed family as well as those living among them. It’s when her former boyfriend makes an appearance that he realizes he has been dead for 10 years but has been unable to crossover to the other side. A day later, a local widow visits Becky seeking assistance with her departed husband. The husband is somehow trapped with Becky’s former boyfriend, and it’s up to Becky to help free them.
I found the story to be quite intriguing. The characters are well-developed and as a reader, I couldn’t help but fall in love with their personalities. The book is a quick read, but one that holds your attention from the beginning to the end. I really appreciated the originality of the story. There is just the right amount of twists and turns, and overall I was quite satisfied with the book.
I received a free copy of this book for the purpose of review and this is my honest and unbiased opinion. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that loves a good cozy mystery.

He doesn’t remember a thing except enjoying the day with her and dancing. Now Becky is left using her special gift to piece together what happened and help his spirit rest in peace.
The author weaves a nice tale that allows you to see the different sides of life and death. Her main character is loving and filled with great compassion for those lingering spirits that need guidance to move on. This is a cozy mystery with a twist of psychic suspense and paranormal aspects.
