She has nowhere. He has no one. Together, they might just be enough.
Two years of constantly moving to avoid her ex-husband’s stalking has taken its toll on Anne and ten-year-old Liam. She has high hopes that Five Peaks will be different, that perhaps they will be able to find some semblance of peace here, but her hopes are dashed when a fight breaks out in her bar. Now she has to make sure the … sure the handsome hunk who started it all by defending her honor is okay. The last thing she needs is a dead body on her dance floor.
Dragon shifter Kal Aterna doesn’t have much anymore. He was in charge the day the Gate to the Otherworld was breached, and someone had to take the blame. Thrown out in disgrace from the only life he’s known, he’s taken to spending his evenings drinking down in Five Peaks. Still, even in his alcohol-fueled state, there’s one thing he won’t stand for. Seeing Anne taken advantage of by a slimeball, he rouses himself just long enough to get knocked out.
Yet when he comes too, the first face he sees is hers. Something changes in Kal in that instant. A new purpose is born, and he won’t rest until he’s proven to her that she’s found more than just a place to stay in Five Peaks. But the past is a tricky thing, and neither Kal nor Anne can get theirs to stay where it belongs. A possessive ex, mysterious disappearances, and a truth that will rock the shifter world. Will their love be strong enough to weather what’s coming?

A Mate to Protect (Dragons of Mount Aterna Book 3) by Riley Storm is an amazing story that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have loved reading. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about dragon shifters, fantasy and paranormal romance.

Kal has been trying to figure out what exactly happened to his life. One minute they are guarding the Gate, the next he and his team are banished from the guard having failed in their duties. Everyone was where they were supposed to be, so how did this happen? He has spent the last few weeks drinking a pub owned by a beatiful woman named Anna. A fight ensues with Kal and a few locals, where the pub is partially destoryed. This is a last straw for Anna, who has been on the run with her son Liam from an abusive ex. She can’t take any more, she had sunk her last dollar into this place and now it was in ruin. Kal offers to pay for repairs and plans to do them himself. It is just the distraction he needs to figure out his future. Little does he know there are those out to finish him off and Anna & Liam are collateral damage. Adding to this, her ex has found her and will stop at nothing to bring her home, even the death of his own child. Yet again this is a strong story, with a great cast of charatures. A fiesty young man who is hell bend on protecting his mama and a dragon who just wants to protect them both. I cant wait to check out the next story!
I liked this story though for me it was a little slow to get in to and seemed like a long book. But in the end the shifter got his mate and they lived HEA. The book had its own bigger story to be solved in later books, it had a smaller danger to mate to overcome, and it had the smaller resolution to the small issue that was attached to the bigger story. All in all, it turned into a pretty good boo and i would like to read other stories and maybe find out about the bigger story.

Loved book three. Anne and her little boy having been running from her ex but when she comes to five peaks she finally feels like home and running her bar, kal is a dragon shifter and has been digraced from his clan so he goes to annes bar every night. Will he be able to protect them when trouble comes?
There’s something so sexy about a fierce dragon protector. Braz knows Grace is his one true mate and will do everything in his power to love and protect her. It’s an exciting story with a few twists along the way.
“I voluntarily received this arc book for an honest review”
I received this ARC from Bad Boy Update. I’m loving this series! This is Kal’s story and it ties directly into what happened at the Gate that fateful day. Kal has been a Guard and his job is his life, until he is fired. He has been hiding out from his clan and spending his time in a local bar. Anne bought the bar hoping for a second chance at a life with her son. She can’t explain the attraction to the brooding guy at the bar, but when he steps in to fend off an angry drunk she is both terrified and attracted to Kal. I love the twists and turns their relationship takes all the while the drama with the gate and his boss is heating up. Love it!!
Decent characters are created for this book. There is a dragon shifter who was a commander. Him and his men were stripped and removed from service because of the mishap. They were made an example of. But now the problem is he’s been hanging out at the local bar in town. He’s not been hanging out in his vault just his truck or in the woods. Annie owns the bar. She just bought it and she’s trying to make do with what she got. Kal is there every night drinking. One thing leads to another there’s a bar fight. He is now made a mission to help her remodel the bar. Annie has her own secrets. She and her son Liam have been basically traveling across country because of their secret. Kal has his own secrets the problem is is that they’re going to collide. Suspense. Slow building but picks up speeds before thing start to get reveled. Can he keep her safe? He now realizes that she might be his potential mate? How can they show love to each other and keep their secret? Or can they? No cliffhanger.

This is a very well-written book 3 in the Dragons of Mount Aterna Series that has very strong main Characters and a great story. These characters are exciting, have chemistry, and are well-crafted. I cannot wait to read more in this series. A must read from a great Author and is a good start to a good series

Anne and her 10 year old son Liam have been running from her ex-husband for the past few years. She hopes that she has a chance of settling down in Five Peaks and opens a bar. One night a fight breaks out and one of her customers is knocked out. Dragon shifter Kal is wallowing in self pity because he loses his job guarding the gate to the otherworld when something came through. Love the chemistry between Anne and Kal. Will they be able to weather the storm when Anne’s ex catches up and why is someone trying to frame Kal? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kal Aterna was in charge of securing a portal with his men, when it was breached. His and his men’s dishonorable discharge was unwarranted and put him in deep despair, trying to drown his feelings. While doing so, he protects the owner of the bar he is in from rowdy men and it comes to a bar fight, where he lets out all of his frustrations. The result is disastrous. Coming out of his fury he promises the owner to help her repair the inn.
This becomes the turning point for him, but also for her, as she had been fleeing her ex for several years.
A good story, human interest mixed with romance and mystery, as they try to unravel what had happened at the gate, facing assassins on the way.
A page-turner and a book that is hard to put down. I was sad to see it finished and want more

Anne and Kal are smoking together! Anne seems to be way in over her head when she buys a bar and tries to run it on her own. Kal comes to the rescue to help her after he causes some damage. I like that she is a single mother so there’s more to their relationship than just two adults. There is action and suspense and the elephant in the room that Kal is a shifter. But I like how it all comes together.

Another fun read in this series that is all about the dragon shifters of Mount Aterna
Kal was the dragon shifter on guard the day that the gate was breached so he took full responsibility and he was cast out. Now he spends his time drinking in Five Peak but when he sees a woman been harassed by a drunken slime ball he can’t help himself he has to step in even though that leads to him been knocked out. Anne is on the run with her ten year old son Liam but her ex husband is hot on her trail she was hoping to find some peace in Five peak instead she is caring for a man knocked out trying to defend her When Kal comes round the first thing he sees is Anna and he knows straight away what she is to him Now he will have to protect her and her son from the danger that is following them and in the process can he win Anna’s heart and Liam’s trust You will have to read to see
This is book 3 of the Dragons of Mt Aterna, but also can be read as a stand-alone. Kal, an ice dragon shifter, was disbarred from his job as a Gatekeeper to the Unworldly causing shame, embarrassment, and isolation. His habit of drinking every night had him at Anne’s bar when she needed help. Danger comes to Anne and her son, but Kal knows he needs to protect her. Interesting story with strong characters. Good read!

Decided to give this storyline another try and while it was better than, “A Mate To Believe In” it still wasn’t what it could be.
Anne is new in town and she has purchased a derelict bar and is trying to make a go of things. Right off the bat I wondered what experience did she have running a bar? She had no other employees, which meant she was the bartender, wait staff, table busser, janitor, bouncer, manager, etc all while having her 10y/o stay in the apartment above the bar.
Kal was stripped of his guardian rank with his dragon clan and was drowning his sorrows at Anne’s bar when trouble started. Since he felt responsible for the damage done to her bar he helps her financially and physically to fix things.
While they had a good working relationship during the construction I did not feel any chemistry between them so when he kissed her it was unexpected. I know the story was about them so at some point they would start heading towards the getting together department. There was no flirtations, no heart flutters nothing that would explain the suddenness of them getting hot and heavy. This was my complaint in the other book also. There is a missing element to make them getting together seem believable.
Then we have a lot of fights and other unexplained events happening in the dragon world that is ending up at Anne’s bar. We once again are dealing with allusions to something happening in the dragon world that is going to cause a big shift/fallout? The bad guys are the same so far, “There is something greater at foot and I am but a small part.” then they die….still with nothing being made clear.
Anne is trying to wrap her head around discovering what Kal is when her violent ex shows up to cause problems.
While this book for me is a better read than “A Mate To Believe In”, there is still a lot of work that needs to happen to really bring these books to life. There is so much potential here and it’s disappointing that it is just falling flat.

Anne moved to town because of her past.
She bought a bar and now Kal is on her path.
He gets into a fight and helps her restore the bar. It also gets them closer together.
But they both have secrets from their past which are catching up with them.
Looking for trouble, evil, trust, love, dragon shifters, action and more?
This your book.
It is a great read again in this series.
You can read it as a standalone, but why would you? The whole series is a great one.
Exciting, lots of action. Kal, Captain, senior man in Gate Guard was on duty when the Gate was breached and a supe escaped. Commander Viko, the boss ripped him a new one, banned him and his team from the Guard permanently. He was disgraced, so he ran to hide in Five Peaks. Anne, on the run from her abusive husband, bought a bar and is trying to make a life for her and her son, Liam. She has an inauspicious confrontation involving Kal and a few customers, which didn’t end well. Kal, stepped up and tries to make restitution. His re-emergence into life, opens several new doors for him and Anne. Liam is an absolute delight, he adds personality to the story. There is serious mystery and intrigue in the story. Did Kal solve the mystery? How does Anne feel about dragons? How does Liam feel about dragons? Nicely done! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ann bought a bar after moving from town to town. She and her young son Liam are trying to hide from her ex. He is a violent man and wants her back. Kal is in disgrace with his clan and has been spending a lot of time at Ann’s bar. Dragons. A warning. A disappearance. A damaged bar. A traitor. Great story.
