Deputy U.S Marshal Logan McCall never expected his first bullet wound to come from a young widow with pretty blue eyes. Nor did he expect to nurse his injury while working incognito on a ranch. Now, instead of chasing the notorious band of outlaws he’s been hunting, he commits to proving the woman’s neighbor is trying to drive her off her land. Paige Kelly is only trying to protect what’s hers … what’s hers when she shoots the tall, handsome lawman by mistake. She fears she’ll be arrested, but instead gains an ally. Working together during the day leads to passion at night. Soon, Paige is dreaming of a very different life, but first, she must convince the marshal to turn in his badge and stay with her.
A desperate act from Logan’s boyhood changed the course of his life and his demons still whisper that he isn’t worthy of the things Paige is offering. But as they realize there is more than one villain hiding in plain sight, Logan can no longer deny what’s in his heart. Suddenly a lifetime of putting the law first pales to keeping Paige safe… But has his realization come too late?

Good book, good author
Love me some cowboy romance.
Excellent storyline
Great read! Well developed characters with interesting and unexpected plot. I read the whole series of the “Montana Frontier” and enjoyed them all! If you like historical Western fiction with romance and suspense you will thoroughly enjoy the series!
Deputy U.S Marshal Logan McCall finds he needs to recover from being shot by mistake along with helping the young woman who shot him find out who is trying to take the land. Sparks fly as these two work together. Enjoyed the story line and characters.
Ebook from netgalley and publisher with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
If you want to get lost in an historical western romance, with a side of suspense, then this is the book! Deputy Marshal Logan meets his match in widow Paige. Each have their reasons for forming a pact in order for justice to be served for everyone: he wants to get a hold of a notorious gang and she wants to find the man responsible for her husband’s death and the continual slaughter of her cattle. Who’s really responsible will keep you guessing. Amidst all this intrigue, is the development of feelings for each other.
Such wonderful characters with U.S. Marshal Logan McCall who is dedicated to his job and doing what’s right. Paige Kelly is a widow who is fighting off a no good neighbor trying to do her ranch harm and run her out of town. Paige has grit and heart, vowing to never give in. Their story will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Marietta is my favourite fictional hometown. And it is so cool to read how it came to “be” as you could say. This book reads like a really good , no great western movie. One that John Wayne or Michael Landon would have played a role in. Yes I am showing my age. What a great book to end a wonderful series.
Our Author Michelle Beattie gives us not only a well written romance but it’s a western with a very good mystery too. I read the book as soon as it hit my kindle… Then my hubs read it as well. He gave it a double thumbs up. Asked me for more from this author in this series. Score. For me, this book read like a very good version of Bonanza or the Lawman. One I had wished had been on tv instead of what I grew up watching. The storyline is good and yes we have some heat. The perfect blend of western romance and mystery and if course it’s based around Marietta, Montana so what’s not to love there.
Logan and Paige have such a great story. I really enjoyed the way their story unfolds and develops. Love the story, adore the characters (especially Logan) and can’t wait for the next book in the series!
This is the first book that I have read by this author but, it definitely won’t be the last. Logan was a Marshal who was tracking down a gang when he came across a steer that was dying. He had just shot the steer to keep it from suffering when a gun was pulled on him. Paige was tired of people killing her animals and trying to run her off of her property. She didn’t realize that Logan was a Marshal until after she shot him. She took him home and took care of him while he was healing. When Logan found out what had been happening on Paige’s ranch he decided that he definitely figure out what was going on and put a stop to it before he left. What he didn’t know was that both of their problems were linked. Will he stay after everything is settled or will he keep trying to atone for his past? This is a great read with a realistic storyline and wonderful characters. I would definitely recommend this book.
