This is an emotionally moving story of a young beautiful, diamond of the first water’s unfortunate life. Marianne, at eighteen ruled the ton by storm. She is a most agreeable young lady, witty, intelligent and an excellent conversationalist. The sins of her father came to rest on her shoulders when she was sold to an elderly earl to pay for her father’s debts. She suffered eight years of emotional and physical abuse. When the earl died, she was left without a penny to her name and had nowhere to go. The new earl was the nephew of her late husband yet she was still younger than he. Arthur, the new earl, took advantage of Marianne’s situation and left her no choice but to take on the responsibilities of a governess for his daughters (without pay). He was just as bad as her late husband. With the help of her nieces she was able to steal away to her dear friend Ellen’s home. If you have read book one of this series you will be familiar with Ellen and her husband Thomas. If you have not read it, I suggest that you do because it will enhance this story. When Marianne’s past is brought before her, she almost faints. Alexander’s animosity towards Marianne was disguised to all but her. It was Marianne’s fortitude that kept her alive those eight years of marriage and she counted on it now to help her deal with Arthur and Alexander. Temporarily away from Arthur, Marianne became emotional when she realized that despite the way her late husband kept her away from making friends, the ones she had prior to the marriage still loved her and were there for her. Staying with Ellen and Thomas opened a new world for Marianne. But her problems were not over. It seemed she was still lorded over by men even though she was a widow. All she wanted was her freedom and not have to worry what people would say. I loved Marianne’s character. She is truly an inspiration to read. Even through all she endured, she stayed true to herself and never broke. She was free if only in her mind to think as she will. I also enjoyed Ellen, Thomas and Alexander’s personalities. They loved Marianne and wanted only the best for her. They went out of their way to make sure everything she had coming to her was provided from Arthur. Marianne had no idea she was even entitled to anything. Arthur would have never let her know. But Thomas knew and made things right for her. An excellent story of survival, friendship and love. I highly recommend this book.

A Marquis For Marianne: A Sweet Regency Romance (Blushing Brides Book 2)
Catherine Bilson
A clean Regency Romance, and aside from the abuse that Marianne received during her marriage until her husband died, it was a very entertaining and enjoyable read.

This should have been named “A Second Chance for Marianne”. This story is about friendships and love that never dies. Can one be truly happy after enduring a marriage of abuse to a man you never wanted? Can a man forgive a woman who promise to wait and didn’t? These are the questions that this story answers. It is deeply emotional and touched me deeply the abuse that this woman suffered.

Regency Romance, Clean and Sweet
Clean Regency romance with a second chance for a Marquis who has always loved Marianne, even though a war and 8 years of time stand between them. Marianne, forced into an abusive marriage with a much older marriage, is fearful and slow to trust. Alexander, for his part, starts out angry with Marianne for not waiting for him to return from war as she promised, but once he understands the circumstances, realizes she had no choice and they are reconciled.

A sweet Regency romance, one where the hero and heroine had to wait for almost a decade for their opportunity to follow their hearts. However, so much damage had been done in the intervening years that it takes all of Alexander Rotherhithe’s wisdom and understanding to reach past Marianne brokenness. Alexader’s battle scars are obvious for all to see, but the pain that Marianne carries within her is mostly overlooked by the members of an entitled and self-absorbed society. After the death of her cruel and much-despised husband, Marianne is at the mercy of her relatives, who treat her like an unpaid servant. She discovers unexpected allies in her plight and makes her escape. Having taken her courage in her hands, she discovers that she does have friends and they are willing to go out on a limb for her, even the disappointed Alexander who was sure that she had thrown him over for a man of power and influence. As Alexander embarks on his campaign to win Marianne’s trust once again, he has to overcome more hurdles than just Marianne’s reluctance to subject herself to marriage once more. Although this well-written book is sad in so many ways, it is also humorous and has some delightful laugh out loud moments. I received a copy of this book through Booksprout and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I enjoyed reading Marianne story. It’s entertaining and well developed. She is a widow and doesn’t want to marry again. Alexander has returned from France and he is rather sceptic. Both meet in a house party and sparkles fly. After several misunderstandings, they have their happy ending.
This is my first book by Catherine Bilson and I’m looking to read more by this author.

I did read Earl for Ellen and we get to catch up on Ellen and Thomas, they both are good friends with both Merianne and Alexander but they see Merianne as more of a sister they love and protect. They will play big parts in this story and be there throughout.
Merianne we first met 8 years before the rest of this book when Merianne was in her first season but she and Alex have been friends for a while, as children. Alex was shipping out for his first time in the military and promised he would return and marry her. But their love was put off when her father sold her to a rich duke to pay for her father’s gambling debt, with in a few weeks after the last time Alex and Meri were together. Now 7 years later Meri is free to a point. Now another year has passed and she’s still a prisoner in her late husband’s home with his heir, his nephew, but Meri is a unpaid ‘servant’ a companion for the man’s wife and his 5 kids. Ellen invites Meri to her house party since Ellen and Thomas upgraded the nasty Haver’s Hall to a showpiece but her warden won’t allow her to go until they as a the parents and their oldest daughter and Meri will go to London. But I love her Nieces Diana and Clarissa, they love their aunt and will give Meri what they can to give her the freedom she needs. With two dresses and her mother’s cross necklace Meri will gain more then freedom but true friends and one very angry but obsessed man her heart craves and he craves Meri just the same. But will the dreadful Nephew stop their love before they can be happy???

Marianne was forced to break her promise to Alexander and marry an evil man, who controlled her until he died. Years later Alexander thought she threw him over for money and a title. He now has a higher title than her husband did and he wants revenge. He never realized the horror she had to live with every day. This is compounded by the fact that she has been an unpaid governess and companion to her husband’s heir for the past year. Marianne is scarred and afraid to give herself over to another man’s control ever again. Once Alexander realizes the truth, she is the only woman he wants and loves, but can he convince her to trust him? This was a second chance romance with plenty of drama with misconceptions and nasty relatives. I liked Marianne’s friends and her nieces and am glad they are getting their own romances.

At the ball, Alexander Rotherhithe, handsomely dressed in his Lieutenant’s scarlet regimentals, approached Marianne to sign her dance card. They had both grown up together and cared very much for each other, but she did not want her father to hear that – her father cared little for her happiness. While her father gambled away the last of his wife’s money in the gaming room, a cruel old man watched Marianne and resented anyone who approached her to dance. One day, he would make sure no one came near her except him!
Alexander asked Marianne to wait for him. He was heading to Spain to fight in the war, but when he returned, they would marry. But while they promised each other to be there for the other, the hateful Lord Creighton made his move and used her father’s gambling debt to force a marriage to Marianne. She was 18 – he was 3 times her age. And he was cruel and possessive. She spent 8 years suffering under his vicious abuse until he finally died. The old Earl’s nephew who took over was just as horrible, treating Marianne as his unpaid servant (a free governess for him). Thankfully Thomas and Ellen, newly married, remained her loyal friends and were able to help her.
Alexander had been aware of her marriage and thought the worst of her, not knowing she had been forced into the horrible marriage and had no way to let him know. Would he find out the truth? Was it too late for them?
This book really tugged at the emotions! For someone whose life could have been so happy, Marianne had to deal with one thing after another. The reader would be relieved to see how friendships can last and get us through the worst of times. The author did a great job with the characters, where the reader is shown exactly what’s inside each one – whether goodness or evil! The story line is exciting, as the reader isn’t sure if Marianne will escape all of the bad things that happen to her. Grab your copy and find out if she finds that HEA that she so very much deserves.

Like earl for Ellen, love this story about a woman of the ton who needed to find her life after her husband passed away. There was more to Marianne’s story than her life after being a widow. I salute the character she represents, a strong woman. She didn’t give in to resentment nor hatred. I wish there was more to her love story, thus I feel it was short. Nevertheless, it was a simple/good read for me.
