Marigold Tavners has a gentle spirit and a loving heart, though she would prefer to spend her time amongst four-legged creatures than with the guests of her parents’ inn. When she sees a hurt, she has to heal it, no matter the breed of the animal. After the death of his wife, Jacob Rothschild, Marquess of Dorchester, joined the army to distance himself from the tragedy his life had become. Not … had become. Not caring if he lived or died, he survived but was left with a scar across his face that matched the one upon his heart.
The bitter marquess manages to keep most away with his surliness, but Marigold has never been able to resist an attempt to heal a broken soul — even if this particular one has no wish to be tended to. The more time they spend together, the more he opens up. But can he do so enough to ever love again?

Book two in The Blooming Brides series a well written story with a great storyline, a quick short story to read. This is Marigold Tavners and the Marquess of Dorchester Jacob Rothschild a widower’s story. I enjoyed reading their story and seeing how they get their happy ending. I received an Arc of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I was totally captivated with this wonderfully written storyline and characters that were so well developed that I remained totally engaged throughout the entire book!
I totally loved this book! I loved the way Marigold took the time to see beyond the surface of people to help them heal. I love her concerns and love for all animal and human rescues alike:) A beautiful story line of second chances and becoming the best self we can be all within the wonderful world of the regency period of time! Jacob and Marigold are wonderful characters who have intriguing conversation and a dynamic relationship:) I highly recommend this book and author! Happy Reading!
I loved that Marigold was a rescuer and healer of wounded animals and people. Her puppy Clover was precocious as so sweet with his immediate connection with the wounded Marquess of Dorchester, Jacob. He was scared both inside with the pain of losing his wife and all he dealt with as a soldier and physically with the scars on his face on body. He didn’t want to allow love in again and feel the pain of its loss, but a determined woman and her dog wormed their way into his heart.
This story has strong engaging characters, which keeps you turning page after page. He must come to terms with things in the past to find his present and future. Marigold breaks down his defensive walls.
This is a great romance story between Marigold, an innkeeper’s daughter, and Jacob, a marquess there to recover from war wounds. Jacob has given up on life but Marigold can’t help but want to heal him physically and mentally because she’s a helping person. He’s closed off to everyone so she has her work cut out for her. There was a small sex scene at the end but was not even really descriptive at all, was tastefully done and was between a married couple. My favorite part was when she discovered Jacob asleep on the beach with the puppy on his lap sleeping and when discovered he tried to pretend the dog snuck up there without him knowing. I highly recommend this book!
This is the story about Marigold, the second sister, who loves animals and is sweet, gentle, charming and the Marquess of Rothschild, hurt, sad, difficult and also wounded from the war.
How the two overcome their perceived personal wounds and learn to love again is what this love story is about and makes for a captivating read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Great book! Very enjoyable and original characters. It is inspiring to read about ladies of this era who have admirable inner strength and yet passionate feelings and worldly perceptions. Always enjoy Ellie St. Clair’s stories!!
Marigold had taken over many of the chores at the inn her family-owned since her sister Daisy had married her duke. They were expecting more quest soon probably soldiers again being sent to the ocean for the healthy air and quiet town. Marigold had saved a puppy and promised Clover wouldn’t bother the boarders. Several men arrived while Marigold was preparing the rooms one gentleman came to his room and was very upset to find he wasn’t alone despite his rudeness Marigold did her best to be welcoming not that he wanted any of it or her. His distant attitude continued, eventually, he told of his young wife dying and how he went to war hoping to die instead he lived badly injured but alive. He feels guilty because he has started to enjoy Marigold’s company and that of Clover. Deciding he must return home soon with his relationship with Marigold becoming more confusing he needed to examine what he wants and she must decide what she can live with.
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion
Book two of the Blooming Brides is Marigold and Jacob Rothschild, Lord Dorchester’s story. Lord Dorchester had joined the war after his wife’s passing in the hope that it would take away his pain. However, hurting with both mental and physical injuries, he is sent to The Wild Rose Inn to recuperate. Surly and uncommunicative, he just wants to be alone. He doesn’t want to risk being so hurt again. Gentle Marigold with her little puppy, Clover slowly break through his barriers and worm their way into his consciousness healing his soul… but can he learn to love again? Beautiful story. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I received an ARC copy of this book.
This is the second book in “The Blooming Brides” series, but it could read as a stand-alone.
This is the story about Marigold, a kind and sensitive woman, and Jacob, an unhappy lord…
Marigold is the second daughter of owners the Tavners and Jacob a wounded soldier…
This is a nice story of a journey toward happiness and love…
This book is for all that love sweet story…
This author never disappoints, A battle weary man who lost his wife and wanted to withdraw from life, a puppy and a loving woman who made him realize there was a future.
ONE UNBELIEVABLE TREAT!!!!
Sweet, strong and captivating! Ellie nailed this bad boy 100% on point realism that blasts this baby to life flawlessly. You get drawn into this world so deep everything else ceases to exist. Satisfying is an understatement, this baby comes packing a punch that’s sure to please. A churning vortex of unforseen circumstances and a slew of vexing events keep you flipping page after page. Twixt and twined and put through the wringer, rocking this little gem to the core. The drama, uncertainty, determination and intrigue thrust this baby together piece by piece fluidly. Witnessing the trials and tribulations as our characters blend and flow catapulting this baby together sleek, shiny and tight. The characters are authentic, genuine and realistic with depth and traits adding just enough flaws to spice things up keeping you frozen to your seat. The scenes are so graphic and detailed it paints a fantastic backdrop that really makes the storyline pop. Incredible job Ellie, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Lovely sweet read about the impossible romance between a Marquess who is recovering from war wounds at a small, seaside inn; the overworked daughter of the innkeeper; and the dog who brings them together. I received an ARC of this book.
A lighthearted, warm and sweet story. Marigold reflects her name of inner grace and unassuming beauty. She has inner strength and is compassionate to all. Jacob is wounded in heart and body. Marigold and her dog Clover become the healing balm that he needs. This is just a winsome story that will delight you.
4.25 Stars
Marigold Tavners has a gentle spirit and a loving heart, though she would prefer to spend her time amongst four-legged creatures than with the guests of her parents’ inn. When she sees someone who is hurt, she has to heal it, no matter the breed of the animal. The family’s Wild Rose Inn is used as a base for soldiers to convalesce; Marigold & her two younger sisters Iris & Violet help their parents to run the inn. Two wounded men arrive & Marigold is immediately drawn to Jacob Rothschild, Marquis of Dorchester a scarred man both physically & mentally.
Marigold works her magic in this lovely story of learning to live again. Jacob went to war after his wife died hoping he wouldn’t return & even though he nearly died he doesn’t grasp his second chance of life until he realises how much Marigold means to him. Even the rescued pup Clover won’t leave him alone & gradually forces his way into Jacob’s affections. This is the second book in the series & yes it could easily be read on its own but I love reading series in order so would recommend reading Daisy’s story first. A well written story that drew me in from the start & held me engrossed until the end
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This is the 2nd book in the Ellie St. Clair’s new series-The Blooming Brides. So named because the stories are about four daughters, all with flower names, Daisy from Book one, who is now married to a duke, Marigold, Iris and Violet. Their family run The Wild Rose Inn. Due to an arrangement with a friend of their father, wounded military man come to the Inn to heal, by the sea and quiet before going back to their life’s before the military. Now that her sister Daisy is married and left home most of the responsibly for the cooking and cleaning falls to Marigold. She doesn’t really like cooking but knows its her job, she prefers to be out doors walking the beaches, and mashes looking for any hurt animals to care for. On such a walk she finds a small puppy, that is way too small to live on his own. As she can’t find the mother she take him home calling him Clover,he becomes her new best friend.
Jacob Rothschild is the Marquess of Rotheschild, and has been badly wounded both outside and in. He has scars on his face and on his body. . Marigold is just finishing cleaning his room when he arrives and is rude, cold and upset that the puppy is also in his room. Marigold is shocked both by his actions and how badly he has been hurt. She can tell the hurt and sadness he carries is heavy.
This is a wonderful story of how two people over come, the pain of loss, the guilt of not being able to save a love one and learning to love and live again.
Marigold, does not give up on Jacob even when he does all he can to send her fleeing. Even Clover will not just leave him alone. Jacob slowly starts talking to both. But even as they grow closer, he still feels he can love again, till an accident proves him wrong.
How these two work out all their problems is a truly loving story.
This is a very clean love story with a HEV, and worth your read. It will just make you feel good for both of them.
I received and ARC from the Author and am giving my opinion freely.
Both books in this series are stand alone but so much better read in order.
This is the 2nd book in the Blooming Brides Series by Ellie St. Clair, but it is a stand-alone book. This book is about Marigold the 2nd daughter of an Inn owner. She is a kind and sensitive woman who likes to help and care for anyone – animals or people. Jacob, Marquess of Dorchester is a man with a sad past – he is unhappy and healing from a war injury. Marigold knows Jacob is in pain and tries to help him. This is a nice clean love story of how Jacob learns to heal and let Marigold in his life. There is also a loveable dog, Clover who will steal your heart. You will enjoy this book by Ellie St. Clair.
The Wild Rose Inn is home to the owners the Tavners – father, mother & 3 daughters (the eldest, Daisy, recently married a duke) Marigold, Iris & Violet. Their father has an arrangement that enables military men to come hide out or rehabilitate from war wounds at the Inn.
A new boarder arrives, as expect to recover body & mind from war wounds, Jacob Rothschild, Marquess of Dorchester. He joined the army to get away from his estates after his wife died & he no longer cared if he lived so going to war fit his plan perfectly. He arrives with scars on the outside & on the inside & is surly, rude & wants to be left alone.
Marigold is now the oldest unmarried sister & is responsible for much of the cleaning & cooking at the Inn. She prefers the company of four legged animals over spending time around people. She is kind, caring but strong & has rescued many animals, birds etc. & brought them back to health. She also has just found a puppy caught in tangles in the woods & knows he is too young to survive on his own – she names him Clover.
When Marigold & Jacob meet, he is cold, rude & he doesn’t want Clover around him ever – who doesn’t like puppies! She tries several different ways to get Jacob to talk & come out of the darkness but nothing works. Will she be able to turn him around?
This is a fun series with wonderful heroines & dark, brooding heroes but in the end the stories have been “feel good” books. These can be read as stand alone but it nice to be introduced to the sisters as they make their star appearance in their own story. I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
