Except now Miss Peregrine, Emma, and their peculiar friends are with him, and doing their best to blend in. But carefree days of beach visits and normalling lessons are soon interrupted by a discovery—a subterranean bunker that belonged to Jacob’s grandfather, Abe.
Clues to Abe’s double-life as a peculiar operative start to emerge, secrets long hidden in plain sight. And Jacob begins to learn about the dangerous legacy he has inherited—truths that were part of him long before he walked into Miss Peregrine’s time loop.
Now, the stakes are higher than ever as Jacob and his friends are thrust into the untamed landscape of American peculiardom—a world with few ymbrynes, or rules—that none of them understand. New wonders, and dangers, await in this brilliant next chapter for Miss Peregrine’s peculiar children. Their story is again illustrated by haunting vintage photographs, now with the striking addition of full-color images interspersed throughout for this all-new, multi-era American adventure.

A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs is the fourth book in the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. Jacob Portman is back in Florida trying to convince his parents that everything is fine.
This story picks up where the third installment left off. I absolutely love how the author uses old vintage photos to create his story. So brilliant, and fun to read, this series has become one of my all time favorite stories.
And the adventure continues! This one starts off slow and doesn’t pick up until about 3/4 of the way through. It is well worth the wait though! I really like where the end goes and can’t wait for the next one.
As always, the pictures in this book are fabulous. I loved the addition of color photos. The author does an excellent job working the pictures into the story.
The original characters that we all know and love are back with the addition of some very interesting ones. The new peculiars introduced in this book are very creative and surprising. I was a bit disappointed in Jacob’s attitude toward Ms. Peregrine, but I can understand why he’s so defiant. They are in his world now and he feels like he should be listened to more. When things start to go downhill during Jacob’s “mission” and they are saved by Ms. Peregrine I feel like Jacob should have shown her more respect. Jacob’s actions at the end are slightly predictable, but it lets the reader know what is coming and I’m very excited to start the next book.

Loved this book! I’m usually an avid romance reader but all of these books transported me to another place and another time in another kind of world. Love, love, love this series!
I enjoyed the other books, but lost interest in this one halfway through
I thought the world of Miss Peregrine and her Peculiar Children was finished after book 3. Imagine my surprise and delight to learn there was a fourth book. And upon finishing this book, I can’t help but hope and wonder if there will be more.
I love that the friends Jacob made have come back to visit and end up saving him. I was disappointed, however, in his dad’s reactions to almost everything. The further adventures the group seems about to go on are very intriguing and I want more answers than what was given in this story. Hence my desire for more books.
I listened to this book on audio and I have to commend the narrator. There are so many voices, accents and dialects used and the narrator easily navigates through them all. I found listening to this series to be even more enjoyable than reading it myself. (I did read the first two books myself before switching to audio.)
If you have started this series, I will suggest that you continue as it only gets more and more interesting and adventurous as it goes on.
The author solves some tough problems from the first three books. This allows much more flexibility and expansion of his canvas. Wonderful characters appear and like life, some disappear. The author keeps you guessing. This series is a magical but internally logical creation that will keep you coming back for more time with the characters and this fascinating world.
Ransom Riggs has continued his series with another entertaining tale. Jacob’s first person narrative gives us an inside view of the action. The plot is action packed and and fast paced. The delightful characters from the earlier books appear once more, and are as welcome as old friends.
Admirers of Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children will enjoy this latest in the series.
The Miss Peregrine series have been enjoyable and unpredictable. Mr Riggs writes a book that needs to be read, if not in 1 day, at least very quickly to follow what is going on. You will find that you need to read the first 3 before this so as to know the characters and what they are like and do. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Enjoy!!
I haven’t read this yet, but received an advance portion in the summer and am very excited about the rest of the book, especially given how much I adore the original trilogy of the series. Riggs is an exceptional writer and I trust these next books live up to the greatness I’ve come to expect from him and his work.
