Read the New York Times bestseller that has taken the world by storm Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon–the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him “the bitter neighbor from hell.” But must Ove be bitter just because he doesn’t walk around with a smile … around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?
Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents’ association to their very foundations.
A feel-good story in the spirit of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, Fredrik Backman’s novel about the angry old man next door is a thoughtful exploration of the profound impact one life has on countless others. “If there was an award for ‘Most Charming Book of the Year, ’ this first novel by a Swedish blogger-turned-overnight-sensation would win hands down” (Booklist, starred review).more
Interesting from page one, and laugh out loud funny at his thoroughly thought out attempts of suscide. Characters were well done, and loved ending. Could read this one again.
A look at the rich blessings of friends.
I recommend this book to all of my friends. In fact, I insist they read it so they have a better understanding of my husband. He is Ove.
This is one of the best books I have ever read.
What an awesome look into the human heart. One of the best books I’ve read. A must read for everyone.
A wonderful book about a curmudgeonly man and his quirky ways that’s very different, yet heart-warming at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.
I loved it
So beautiful!
One of my favorites
I generally like mystery/suspense stories. But this book was outstanding. It pulls you in and you become vested in the lives of the characters.
Poor Ove, all he wants to do is join his wife in death, but he has this new neighbor who won’t leave him alone and a cat who won’t go away. This book was sad and funny at the same time, and I loved seeing Ove change from a grumpy old man to one loved by his neighbors.
This was a bit slow starting out but was a wonderful story full of unique characters.
Different. Touching. Well paced and entertaining. Ove is a truly original character.
Nothing even remotely interesting about this book. A dnf.
I laughed, and I cried. Such a good book.
This book was pick for our book club for NOV and frist time reading from this https://photos.app.goo.gl/8ge5hmZs5g4cBom
Was a wonderful book about life & kindness, not judging or giving people a chance!!
Wow; very, very lovely. Made me fall in love with my husband all
over again!!
This book was pretty funny and probably just about anyone can relate to dealing with someone like Ove.
The problem is in the lack of editing- what a mess. I cannot believe Simon & Schuster allowed this to go to press in such condition.
The tense constantly flip flops between past and present, even sometimes, in the same sentence so it’s very distracting, hindering the reading process. Another example of the poor editing is as Ove converses with another person, this person is a ‘he’ one minute and a ‘she’ the next. No continuity and causes more confusion.
I couldn’t bring myself to finish it, despite enjoying the content. If they couldn’t be bothered with producing a professional book, it doesn’t deserve my attention.
It was funny, sad and heartwarming. The main character was very visible throughout the book and it was all about his life and how he came to be the way he was. It was basically the life story of Ove!
