What an amazing man. So many things in this book were new to me. Fascinating reading about a little known WWll service.
I read the book many years ago when it first came out. It is still a good and useful read.
Excellent book showing another side of the Churchhill-Roosevelt communications during the war.
Excellent book, revealing how close Germany came to defeating the free world in WWII, and how heroes among the Allies saved us.
I took a look at this book once again. Now decades later after first reading it in the 70’s when I was in high school. Given the book by my father who fought in WWII as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne I was watching James Bond movies and he told me I should read about the man who created James Bond. The first time I read this book I did not …
Incredible book about an incredible man. If you enjoy the history of World War II, this is a book you should read. Intrepid was a stud.
One of the best nonfiction books I have read. The author’s in-depth knowledge of
Most of the counter-espionage details presented were at a depth and breadth I had not previously even imagined. The immediate access INTREPID had to Roosevelt and Churchill was amazing, informative, and clearly had direct impact o te war’s outcome. There even were revelations on the atomic bomb issues that I was totally in the dark about, …
This terrific description of the British-run intelligence agency during WWII and the background information on the collaboration of Roosevelt and Churchill was both revealing and inspiring. Why couldn’t we have that sort of leadership in the US now?
Excellent writing and research
A lot of things went on behind the scenes just prior to WW2 between Churchill and Roosevelt. A lot of political drama and quite a bit of sharing resources between america and England to keep England from being crushed and dominated by the Nazis. Maybe in this case, “The ends justify the means.”
difficult and not easy to follow
Fascinating!
A bit long and detailed, but very interesting for WW-II history buffs,
Ok, so this book is about 40 years old and I just found it on my Bookbub feed. It is the bigger picture behind “The Imitation Game”, as well as “James Bond”. It is the real story of Winston Churchill and the British secret (service) war against Nazi Germany with (also secret) help from President Roosevelt. While there are a lot of names (of real …
This is a must read if you want to understand World War II. Amazing behind the scenes look at how important espionage was, and how it got to it’s current state.
learned many interesting tidbits about England and ww2.
Not the smoothest writing making it a small challenge to follow the authors train of thought. But, historically it is worthwhile reading because it describes actual events & factors that occurred in the 1930’s & 40’s that effected the direction, progress and ultimate results of WWII & Hitlers goal to dominate the world governments.
This book holds surprises for those who thought they knew the history of and around WWII. For example some of the most glaring mistakes by Adolf Hitler were encouraged by the clever actions of Allied spies.
An incredible true story which I first read in 1979. His life was one of breathtaking intrigue.
