A bus full of children is taken hostage in this “screaming hit” (The New York Times Book Review) from the bestselling author of The Never Game and The Bone Collector.Along a windswept Kansas road, eight vulnerable girls and their helpless teachers are forced off a school bus and held hostage in an abandoned slaughterhouse. The madman who has them at gunpoint has a simple plan: One hostage an hour … has a simple plan: One hostage an hour will die unless the demands are met.
Called to the scene is Arthur Potter, the FBI’s best hostage negotiator. He has a plan. But so does one of the hostages—a beautiful teacher who’s willing to do anything to save the lives of her students. Now the clock is ticking as a chilling game of cat and mouse begins.

I do not always read crime scene type of books, but this book caught me off guard with the suspense, characters. From the first page I was hooked and lost so many hours of sleep. I could not put this book down, and when I had to, could not wait to start reading again to find out what happens. I recommend this book highly.
Jeffery Denver always spins a great story, capturing your interest early and maintaining it throughout the book. He integrates factual information in his stories and I learned a lot about the Deaf community in this book.
Jeffery Deaver delivers with “A Maiden’s Grave”. The book is suspenseful and and keeps you turning the pages long after you should turn out the lights. One of the things that makes it so difficult to put down is that the scenario is not far fetched at all.
I love Deaver’s writing and have devoured all of his books. This one stayed with me for some time after I finished and I found myself thinking about and recommending the book quite frequently.
The first work I read by Deaver, this is a hard-to-stop-reading, high-tension thriller. Strongly recommended.
Typical amazing Jeffrey Deaver!!
Love this author
This is one of the best Deaver novels, outside of the Lincoln Rhyme stories, I’ve read. It has a twisted plot, full of danger, and scary scenes—things you could imagine might really happen it scares you to death. The psychological machinations of both the good guys and bad guys keep you engaged. And the unexpected plot twist near the end is truly jaw-dropping. I read it continuously in 36hours—couldn’t put it down. No plot giveaways or spoiler alerts—just read it!!
some great insights into human nature
Deaver’s Books are always page turners. Great characters. Plot a bit scary.

Not up to standards in my opinion

Jeffrey Deaver is a master of the thriller genre! This doesn’t disappoint.
The story twist and turns and is not predictable!
Always twists in a Jeffrey Deaver story.
This is one of the best books that I have read. I couldn’t put it down until I finished it!
Pretty good book. Starts off slow then grabs your attention
An older Deaver book but super. The characters were so lifelike, you could feel their emotions.
Read this long ago, but remember it as a very good read. Enjoyed the movie also.
