Sometimes, I wondered if he was real. Our time together was short, but it left a lasting impression on me. I’m older now. Wiser, too. Five years have passed, and I still can’t get him off my mind. Hunter was cruel, angry, and protective. I learned his secrets and he fled. The day he left, I vowed to find him. I guess now I have an obsession of my own: Track down Hunter Hammond and make him mine.
Our story picks up 5 years after the conclusion of book 1- and the tables have turned, Roe is now the obsessor and the stalker, as she’s trying to deliver on her farewell promise to Hunter after he brutally left her behind. Much to her frustration, she’s not made much progress- not only in her quest to find Hunter but in her life in general, as she’s allowed her obsession with finding him consume her. Her desperation leads her to make the risky decision to rely on the good will of a dangerous stranger to find her lost love.
We have an evolved Roe- she’s more fierce, more determined, more resourceful, and more feisty. She’s decided she has nothing to lose, so she’s willing to confront the risk, confront the pain, and later confront Hunter’s hostility in order to salvage what she considers to be her only real connection. She’s questioned if what was between them was even real, if she’d romanticized it all, but she’s unwilling to risk never knowing, unwilling to add something else to her list of life’s unanswered questions.
Hunter is as alluring as ever, and here, he’d a bit more frustrating. We don’t get much of his perspective early on, which makes sense from a story telling standpoint (Roe doesn’t get him, so neither do we), but it certainly makes for some hurtful moments once they reconnect. He’s clearly still haunted, still guilty, and still perplexed by his conflicting feelings towards Roe, and as the book title suggests, there is something he needs to confess. The push and pull angst made for dramatic tension and sexual chemistry in the first book, and here, it feels more cruel and frustrating. Certainly it serves its purpose- the make the path of Hunter and Roe reconnecting nuanced, challenging, and perplexing.
We don’t get the “lovely confession” until pretty late in our tale- and, per typical Hunter style, its unexpected and poorly timed. I was definitely in the ballpark of the twist, but I didn’t not nail this one. This ups the volatility and confusion in Hunter and Roe’s conclusion, but it does finally illuminate what was such a barrier for Hunter. This happens side-by-side with some hardcore danger and action- and while this makes for an exciting conclusion, I wish we’d had a chance to let the emotional fallout from the confession breathe a little bit more- we definitely get to see some of Roe’s feelings here, her inability to forgive and the way in which it makes her question much of her existence, but for such a bombshell a bit more emotional tension here would have been satisfying, not to mention give space for Hunter to grovel/repair a bit more. The resolution felt a bit too swift, and a bit too easy.
But, as Roe says early on, “obsessions have purpose”- and that really is the theme here, there is reason her and Hunter have been so interwoven into each other’s lives, even if it is through trauma, damage, pain, and hurt. And, the best way to let their damage breathe if for them to finally accept that they don’t have to qualify or understand the obsession, but rather, lean into it, allow it to pull them together rather than apart, and trust that there is a purpose to their draw, and then, ultimately, making the CHOICE to swim in it, rather than drown.
Overall, I really enjoyed this duet. Coralee has a beautiful way of exposing the architecture of her characters’ minds. Much like the poetry she vulnerable shares from Roe’s voice here, she uses words and imagery and the gentle description of complex emotions to help us feel our characters turmoil, to feel their damage, to question right alongside them.
And, bonus, for any hardcore Bullets fans, we not only get to see Gavriel in this story, but ALL of our beloved bullets- even Sunshine.
4 stars
I have been waiting for this book since I read the last one. It played over and over in my subconscious as I tried to fathom how it would end. In some ways, the story lived up to the hype. In others, it didn’t. I enjoyed portions of it like the poetry but the ending felt rushed and left me feeling meh. I felt that Roe and Hunter needed more of a resolution after the big finale/climax.
Still, it was good and I love this author.
I’m dead. CoraLee June has killed me with the conclusion of Roe and Hunter’s story. I loved every single word. The poetry, the violence, the death and destruction, the tension, and the heat all combined to create a magical work of art. I loved seeing a heroine that went after what she wanted and not stopping until she got it. Hunter was the perfect delicious bad boy. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone.
A Lovely Confession is the fantastic conclusion to the Debt of Passion Duet (a Bullets Series Spin Off). And I loved it! It’s filled with excitement, steam, and danger as Roe sets out to find Hunter. You won’t want to miss it! ‘Once a Bullet always a Bullet’.
I read the complete Obsession duet:
This duet hit me like….
Yes,
No,
I love it,
I shouldn’t love it,
I need to know what happens…
GAH!!!
Yes, it is that kind of read.
It taps into the part of your psyche that knows it’s a dark and depraved book and you shouldn’t read another word, but it is also the part of your brain that says ooooh, bring it on because it is forbidden and I want every delicious thing about you and I want more, more more!!!
Hunter and Roe shouldn’t make sense in any coupledom, but they also make perfect sense after you finish the book.
They are bound by destiny, a twisted fate that holds them together by their obsession of one another. There were moments I didn’t necessarily like the actions of either character, but it was because I was at the point of thinking, just let them go. GAH! Things had gotten so bad or they had pushed each other to the point where they had reached their final breaking point that you do wonder, if they really are better off with someone else.
Coralee did her job and did it well because it had me…I know the person who fights and wants her HEA’s actually pondering this, but that didn’t make me stop reading. For the eternal optimist, it actually made me read faster because I had faith that in that moment of darkness the HEA would be glorious.
I do know in times on ultimate darkness when everything seems bleak and you wonder how anything will be right, those are the times when I know the payout will be the biggest. Coralee did not disappoint one single bit when I was wallowing in those pits. This is a dark romance in every sense of the word, but know that with a dark romance there is beautiful light at the end.
Lovely obsession is unlike most books I read, which I’m going to say thank goodness with that, because this one got under my skin and lingered and lingered. I know I will be obsessed with these characters for some time and have to go and read everything that Coralee has written…I know I am now obsessed. Watch out for a new stalker, Coralee!! LOL!!
I am a mega fan of Coralee and of course she delivers on another great series. Coralee just has a way of creating a story that totally grabs the readers attention and does not let up. The Debt of Passion Duet is no different.
A Lovely Confession is taking place five years after A Lovely Obsession. If you read ALO, then you know all about Hunter and his obsession with Roe. In turn causing an obsession in Roe, when he leaves. Now five years later Roe has spent years trying to find Hunter, who does not want to be found. But he underestimates her, for she will do anything to find him. That anything involves dealing with the devil, Gave Moretti.
Okay so this Duet is freaking awesome. Not only on the leads Hunter and Roe, but with glimpses of the Bullets!!! My fave series so far from Coralee. So if you are a huge Bullets fan, this is a fun glimpse of them again. If you are not, you will be. So overall, The Debt of Passion Duet was a great read, with lots of twists and turns, alpha males, strong women, and just really a great read. I highly recommend.
I loved seeing Roe grow so much from the last book. She knew what she wanted and she went after it and I respected her so much for it. Like the last book the author, this book really pulled me in. Roe and Hunter weren’t the best March but they were also so perfect for each other. I rooted for them from the middle of book 1, and was so happy with the conclusion. I really can’t wait to see what this author writes because I quickly became a fan. 4 stars #2OCCJD
“Once was a mistake. Twice, a tragedy. Our pattern of fucking and leaving was getting on my nerves.”
“Loving you is like dipping your toes in wet concrete. You’re tempted by the idea of performance, then get stuck when it hardens.”
“Loving you is like this halfhearted thing. Where I supply half the heart and you supply nothing.”
A Lovely Confession is the final book in this duet, and like its prior, gave us the same fucked-up, toxic, obsessive kind of love with a heaping dose of danger on the side.
I’ve enjoyed this book- how the characters have both tried to change for the better, the inevitability of their love, and the pulse-pounding danger that the Bullets bring on the table. I felt the characters frustrations, angst, fear and maddening love for each other.
Though it ended in an HEA, I felt like that their story didn’t actually end here. I feel, like the Bullets, we will still be seeing them in another series of the author. One can only hope. In any case, I’m here for Ms June’s books and I can’t wait to read more!
4.5 stars
I was really looking forward to this book and wasn’t disappointed. I loved the push & pull between Hunter and Roe. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride that held me captive right up to the end.
Ughhhhh this book was so good. I just love Cora’s writing style and the way she weaves the story.
I’m not gonna lie – Hunter pissed me off the first part of the book! I think that was Cora’s intention, but it was such a foreign feeling to me in regards to him because I love him so much. But I think after five years he was just so tired of pretending he wasn’t thinking of her, but too scared to be vulnerable. I really loved the moment he stopped playing his cards so close to his chest!
I always love Roe, and I really liked that she started working out and is able to protect herself, it really helped with her self esteem and with her vulnerability. The only thing I am iffy about is that I felt she lost some of herself in the beginning of the book. She did get it back eventually though. She was obsessed for 5 years, didn’t really have a life or a boyfriend or even someone she was sleeping with. Then she kept allowing Hunter to treat her with little to no respect. That kind of left a sour taste in my mouth but the end result was something I loved so I think it was necessary she go through that!
I’m so happy this was their conclusion to their story and that they are so in love and happy! As usual I look forward to reading what else Cora comes up with, with that amazing mind!
Pure perfection lies in these pages. A conclusion of epic proportions. I loved it all! Coralee knows how to kick up the angst and suspense until your writhing in an agonizing discomfort.
Hunter and Roe are back in each other’s lives after five years. Five years of Hunter hiding from Roe and the hurt has been intense. Hunter is stubborn and thinks he’s doing what’s best. Roe is determined and a fighter.
Its inevitable. Despite the confession there’s always going to be the obsession.
Seeing this story unfold was pure bliss. I can’t rave about it enough! Definitely more than a five star read!
Roe and Hunter are back for their final ride and it was worth the wait. We pick up the story five years later and Roe is a very different young woman but she is focused on one thing…. to find Hunter. Even I wasn’t sure why she really wanted to find him, was it love or hatred did she wants answers or just closure. I loved this new Roe who despite everything has made a new life for herself but you could tell something or someone was missing. Not gonna lie I wanted to shake them both a few times they were just so maddeningly stubborn. This was the comclusion I wanted because all those questions I had from book one were answered.
WOW! OMG! What a freaking conclusion A Lovely Confession is! I absolutely loved this book and duet, Coralee June has simply blown me away with it.
Coralee June has me hooked from book one, and simply waiting not so patiently for this book. This book is dark, twisted, and deliciously sinful. Their relationship is toxic, damaged, deep, tragic, all consuming, and amazing. Hunter and Roe were just amazing to read about. Their story is gritty, and raw. The push, pull that these two have going on is just fantastic to read.
I wasn’t sure if June would be able to top A Lovely Obsession, but I will never doubt her again. I mean we literally find out Hunter was hiding from Roe. I mean, who in the world would have seen that coming?
Coralee June delivered a sinfully delicious, thrilling, well-written duet that left me amazed. Hunter and Roe’s story was nothing at all like I originally thought it would be, but absolutely perfect. Sometimes we don’t get what we thought we get more! And that is what Coralee June did, she gave us more! The Debt of Passion Duet is a must read!
One of the very best duets I’ve ever read! This conclusion was EPIC. It really was a wild emotional roller coaster-there were several times that broke my heart, but Cora has a way of piecing everything back together in a way that makes me forget about it all. I would absolutely categorize this book as dark-everything about it, down to the angst, the violence, and the love scenes. I’m confident absolutely no one compares to Cora in this sense-she can write so flawlessly that it makes me want to live in the worlds she gives to her readers. The heroine has done so much growing, and it’s just an absolute beautiful thing. I could read this over and over and never get sick of it. An absolute MUST read!
Reading this Duet Set was tough for me as I normally don’t tend to head down the real dark, and somewhat taboo subjects. However, I love CoraLee and her writing so I gave it a chance. I am sooooo glad I did.
Roe and Hunter have a love story that, while not conventional, can hold on the test of time which is proved throughout this book. We follow Roe as she turns into the one who goes after Hunter. He let her go at the end of Obsession, and allowed them to grow. The growth from one book to the next between these characters was truly beautiful. June does a fantastic job of balancing the line between going to dark, and allowing the reader the reward of seeing a wonderful love story unfold. As always any mention of the Bullets is always a plus for this reader.
I can’t imagine having to wait until the original release date for the conclusion to Hunter and Roe’s story! Thank God this lovely author moved the date forward to TODAY!
There are so many things I want to say about the conclusion to this story but my brain is just so all over the place that I can’t exactly make sense of it all or how to organize all my thoughts!
I wanted to just start shouting all the things out that I loved but realized I should probably … nope, that’s exactly what I’m going to do
– Hunter and horses. <3 <3 <3
- Roe and Mack’s relationship <3 <3 <3
- The poetry <3 <3 <3
I would have loved to have had just a year gap between Hunter and Roe having last seen each other because five years seems like QUITE awhile. I also really liked the friendship that grew between Nicole, Joel and Roe. I think I would have liked to have seem some jealousy from Hunter knowing that she was still friends with Joel too hahaha
I loved seeing more of Sunshine and the Bullets as well! Makes me want to re-read that series from the beginning <3
I would also totally love it if in the future Coralee June put out a little book of poetry because I seriously loved it within this duet!
I enjoyed the push and pull of Hunter and Roe but this book fell short for me. Roe’s obsession with Hunter after 5 years seemed a bit much but to each their own. Hunter went from being a colossal dick one minute to giving into his wants/needs the next. There was potential for so much with the story line.
3.5
The Hunter became the Hunted. After being left 5 years ago, Roe has continued to search for Hunter. When she finally finds him all of their old feelings come rushing back. As much as they both want to hate each other, they can’t deny that they still have chemistry and feelings for each other.
But it’s not just about them anymore. There are others involved and a war is coming. Will everyone that they love come out alive?
While I did like this book. I didn’t like it as much as the first one. Despite the fact that Roe became physically stronger, it had been 5 years and she was still weak when it came to Hunter.
It seemed he had moved on with his life, he was no longer stalking her, and he even said that he was happy and had a good life before she came back into it but she hadn’t done any moving on. I wish that he had still kept an eye on her, instead of occasionally asking Mack.
I did like when she would show her strong side, like when she didn’t give into his every request and stood her ground about not leaving. And of course I still loved their chemistry together!
I also enjoyed that the Bullets were all throughout the story (I love Blaise!). It was nice being back in their world and seeing their dynamic from someone else’s perspective.
I feel like I have been waiting, waiting, waiting to read the conclusion to the Debt of Passion Duet. It really wasn’t that long of a wait between books, I was just excited to be back in Roe and Hunter’s twisted world. So, was A Lovely Confession worth my anxiously impatient wait? Yes!
Five years may have passed, but the obsession is still as strong as ever. Roe Palmer is determined to prove to herself and to Hunter Hammond, that their relationship is worth the pain and sorrow of their shared past. This is the version of Roe I love the most, a courageous fighter ready to take own the world (and her own self doubt) to help the ones she loves. Hunter comes across as a selfish jerk at times, but is he still using his cold facade to hide from not only Roe but himself. Roe and Hunter’s relationship is angsty, passionate, bittersweet, and wonderful. I truly fell in love with these characters and I didn’t want their love story to end.
I’m so glad that Sunshine and her guys from the Bullets Trilogy make an appearance in this story. Their quick moments of domestic bliss was actually sweet and I couldn’t help but smile whenever they were together.
CoraLee June has created a dark, dangerous world filled with even darker characters that I’m absolutely obsessed with and pages sprinkled with Roe’s beautiful poetry. But most of all, I’m going to miss “Stalker” and “Pretty Debt” so much!
This book starts five years after Hunter left and Roe is looking for him. She finds him and whew what a crazy, angsty story! Read A Lovely Obsession first to understand what is happening in this story. A good conclusion for this duet.
