Daisy’s heart has been utterly broken for years. She travels west as a mail-order bride to marry Isaac, a rancher she has never met. Daisy does this to lift the burden off her parents and her little brother. A terrible stagecoach robbery finds Daisy in a helpless situation. Henry, who owns a ranch near Isaac’s, finds Daisy and helps her. Henry left his past behind him, and he wants to lead a peaceful life. Isaac was responsible for the robbery and killing of many people. Thomas saves Daisy, and a strong bond forms between them. Daisy is hiding some truths and does not known how to tell them. – This is a slow-reading book. Daisy gets into several bad situations, mostly because of her mistrust and immaturity.. Henry is a kind person with lots of patience. I started to quit reading the book several times but stuck with it. I got frustrated with Daisy. The last third of the book is the best, but it is mediocre at best.
This was an interesting mail order bride western romance. Daisy was leaving her parent’s home in Oregon to become a mail order bride to a good man in California. Isaac was the man of her dreams until she found out he wasn’t. One the way to him, the stagecoach she was traveling in was robbed and everyone was killed, except for her. She saw scars on the wrist of one of the outlaws and recognized those same scars on her betrothed.
When she escaped the death at the stagecoach, she was found by a handsome man named Henry. Henry had a checkered past and, while he wanted to get married and have the kind of marriages his sister and brother had, he wasn’t willing to settle for just any woman. When he found Daisy on his property, he saw the perfect woman for him in her. Unfortunately, she was promised to his neighbor, who he couldn’t stand.
The story goes round and round with Daisy running away from Henry three times and Isaac trying to harm her and kidnap her. Finally, there is a happy ever after ending.
I had a few problems with the story. First, Daisy lived first with Isaac, and then with Henry, while not being married to them. I don’t think that kind of thing normally happened in the late 1800s. It didn’t seem proper or that it would have been acceptable. There were some colloquial phrases that seemed thrown in the story to show it’s historical value but seemed odd. There was a happy ending which I do appreciate and the story didn’t lag but I had a hard time engaging in this particular story.
This was wonderful. The ups and downs in this story kept me up late, wanting to see what was going to happen next
Outlaws, lies and running away from it all, only to be caught by love. What can a woman do?
A must read.
