I wanted to read a teen angsty romance and I hit the jackpot with A Love Song for Liars. I was hooked as soon as I read the synopsis and realized that it was a rock star romance too. After reading it, I’d say it’s a rock star romance in the making because we can see the first steps in Tyler and Annie’s career paths and their connection to each other and to music.
Annie is a junior at Oakwood Prep, her father is the rock legend Jax Jamieson but she’s far from being popular. She and Tyler were friends before her father decided to mentor Tyler and before he moved into her father’s pool house. Tyler also starts attending Oakwood Prep for his senior year.
Annie was my favorite character in this story, she sees herself as plain but that couldn’t be further from the truth. This girl is anything but plain! She is a loyal friend, with a great heart, sometimes wiser than she should be, sometimes exactly the teenager she is. I really loved Annie, she was definitely surprising and it all has to do with the way she grew up (you have to read the book, to find out!), she’s not the spoiled rich rock star daughter that’s for sure. Tyler is amazingly talented and it doesn’t hurt that he’s so good looking too. He is effortlessly very popular, he doesn’t exactly hang out with the mean popular kids but they definitely want him to be a part of their little elite group. Tyler is basically trying to finish high school and invest his free time in his career as a musician, he’s also trying to shield himself from anything and anyone that can interrupt his so dreamed path to his dream. You see where this is going, right?
The connection between Tyler and Annie is deep, not only their love for music and songwriting, but the deeper connection between them is there every time they are together even when they are fighting. One of my favorite things in this book is that their love for music can be felt through the entire story and beautifully simmering under it is their ache for each other.
There were a few things that I didn’t love. I didn’t exactly think it made much sense that Jax, being a rock star legend, decided to pick a kid to mentor and brought him into his house, well his pool house but still… It just felt a little forced. But I just found out there is a prequel to this book so maybe it will make more sense after I read it. I also didn’t exactly loved Jax and Annie’s relationship, I think Annie really deserved more from her dad.
A Love Song for Liars is a slow burn, angsty high school romance with drama, bullying, chemistry, music, friendship, love and heartbreak. That ending broke my heart and ruined me! I’m really curious about what is going to happen between Annie and Tyler, can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
An emotional Rollercoaster. This book will leave you begging for more. Wonderfully written with amazing characters that draw you in to their world.
AHHHH! AHHHH! First, that ending!! Dead. Piper takes you on a slow burn, angsty, they will/they won’t ride…and then she totally leaves you hanging jaw open, CRAVING more! I’m not mad one bit about it though because she made the tortuous journey one to truly jones for! LOL!
Annie and Tyler’s story is one of a sweet innocent friendship that evolves into something deeper. Though even as younger teens their connection was meaningful. They understood each other’s insecurities and pain. Then poof…Tyler seems to disappear and it leaves Annie hurt and missing her closest friend during a tumultuous time of fitting into her new life. But then he’s back! And he’s living in her guest house and working closely with her rock star dad, trying to make it in his passion for music—something she wishes she could do. Their reintroduction is tentative but they appear to be on their way to friendship once again, until Tyler becomes—and seemingly embraces—his role of the new hot prince at their elite high school. Annie once again feels betrayed as they both try to push each other away. Their circle is small and while Annie is trying to grow into herself and find her own musical dreams, they can’t avoid each other any longer. Old feelings flare and they both teeter on the edge of controlling their true desires.
Oh man the tension is strong in this story! It is total new adult crack and the secrets simmering below the surface make it all the more tantalizing! It absolutely does end in a doozy of a cliffy but it’s so worth it! Great story, great characters, can’t wait for more!! 5 stars for A Love Song for Liars!!!
Annie spent a good portion of her life thinking that her famous fun uncle was nothing more than that, but little did she know he was the father she never knew she had. Her mother was never really in the picture so she was raised by her aunt and uncle in Philly. There she met a boy that came from the same kind of broken home that she did, and it bonded them quickly, helping them easily fall into a unshakable friendship.
But then her father’s secret comes to light and she learns the truth about his identity, and before long he whisks her off to Texas to live with him and his new family. Leaving her to have to say goodbye to her best friend Tyler Adams. But not for long…
Her father brings Tyler to Texas to live in their pool house and help him in the studio with his album. Annie is thrilled to see him again, but he has changed and is no longer the sweet and caring friend she had back in Philly. He is cold and distant, and pushes her away at every turn, and that hurts more than she cares to admit. Especially since he quickly becomes the king of her school and hangs out with the people she despises. She misses her friend dearly and wants to get back what they once had, question is will he ever let her back in?
A Love Song for Liars is an emotional and dramatic page-turner that will grab your heart and attention from the very first page. Nothing is more dramatic than young love gone wrong and these two have went seriously wrong. You couldn’t help but feel for Annie and all she endures, between losing her friend and dealing with the schools mean girls the poor girl just can’t seem to catch a break. Tyler is a bit of a recluse, but he felt he had to be in order to keep his secrets safe and keep Annie at a distance… that is until he couldn’t ignore her any longer. These two play a good game of cat and mouse, constantly circling around one another, pushing each other away one moment and then gravitating towards one another then next… it’s a tension-filled little chase! I cannot wait to see how it all ends for these two, they have fought so hard to hold onto their friendship and more, but there are so many obstacles standing in their way. I loved my time with these two, their story delighted on every level, and left me dying for more!! Highly recommend this one, the moment you meet these two you won’t be able to let them go!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
NA romance is quickly becoming one of my go-to genres! Annie and Tyler have an off the charts chemistry. The attraction and emotions between them pour from the pages. The slow build to that first kiss is absolutely worth it! There are laugh out loud moments and moments where you want to throw your Kindle. Please don’t throw your Kindle, you’ll need it for books 2 and 3!
Filled with firsts, angst and all that goes along with surviving High School, A Love Song For Liars hits all the right notes!
I am NOT okay.
Annie & Tyler are absolutely incredible. Captivating from the very first interaction.
The rebel prince & the misfit rich girl are definitely not what anyone would call a match made in heaven. And that is perfectly fine, because for Annie, they don’t need to be.
The turmoil on these pages held me hostage from beginning to end. Rooting for the two of them, for each of them individually.
I think I may have developed a slight girl crush on our girl. She’s far wiser than her age would suggest.
And Tyler, I don’t know if I want to love him or hate him.
I guess I’ll decide in the next one.
This book is one of my favorites for 2020….and this whole series has the makings to be one of my all-time favorites. So much angst and teenage emotions wrapped up in one amazing story.
Annie & Tyler are going to be epic. This book will rip your heart out and I have no doubt the series will put you back together again! Piper Lawson has the ability to create the most amazing characters and these guys are no exception. Be prepared to want to be friends with Annie, fall in love with Tyler (and then kick him in the nuts at times—you know, like a real, pain in the butt guy), and possibly slap an overprotective rock-star dad. Also, be prepared to want to eat your feelings…I needed emotional support cake at the end (no lie and no shame!).
Of course, now I can’t wait for A Love Song for Rebels to hit my kindle.
“”What do you want?” Her next breath fills her lungs, my ears. “I want to forget you.”
—
“I don’t believe in gods, but if they ever existed… Their ashes stir each time that boy lifts a guitar.”
Piper Lawson is an author who manages to string words together in such a way they are some of the prettiest sentences you have read. I found that to be so in her Wicked series, and it is the same in Love Song for Liars. Things said by Annie and Tyler have stuck with me and made this book highly enjoyable, frustrating, lovely, and heartbreaking.
We initially met Annie in the Wicked series as she is Jax Jameson’s daughter. She’s grown from a young girl to now being in high school. From Wicked, we know her mother didn’t want her, and Jax allowed her to think she was his sister’s daughter for years. She lived a “normal” life doing normal things. Jax sweeps in deciding to be her Dad, changing her life in ways that Annie has ever gotten comfortable. She goes from being Annie, normal, average girl to Annie, daughter of the biggest rock star on the planet, and all that change in station implies. Material things make life pleasant; however, I believe Annie wouldn’t mind going back to her old life. Jax’s love for his daughter is evident, but he is making moves in this book that are going to come back and bite him in the butt. He’s so concerned with giving her what he thinks she needs; he doesn’t take the time to know her and go from there.
Tyler, who has known Annie for several years, has bonded with her over shared interests and personalities. He’s talented, without money, and from a toxic family dynamic. Jax sees his talent and is allowing him to finish school and launch a career. Interestingly Tyler does not want to be a rock star; he wants to be a session musician where his talent can shine. Tyler is quiet, broody, and attractive enough to draw the attention of the popular kids at school; there, our conflict arises between Tyler and Annie.
The story that unfolds by turns makes you swoon with its innocence and beauty and want to launch your Kindle across the room. Tyler and Annie’s story is just getting started, but the promise of what is to come is exciting. I am already chomping at the bit for the next installment *taps Kindle impatiently*, mainly because I am angry at Jax (he ought to know better), and I’m hoping he gets a good talking to from Haley. I’m furious at Tyler (handsome broody boy) for his behavior. I have to see how all this “stuff” is going to resolve because right now, things are a mess. Thank you, Piper, for your cliffhanger–not. So I’m prepared for lovely words as only Piper can write them and watching the relationship between Annie and Tyler grow and mature as they do as people.
I love this book. I’m so glad it’s a trilogy because this is a story I keep wanting to come back to. I can’t get enough of these two. Tyler is so swoony, he’s that right kind of mix of strength and tenderness. And I love being able to see Jax and Haley again. But really, it’s all about Annie and the story unfolds perfectly. My heart is being pulled in a hundred directions by the end! I can’t wait for more!
Annie and Tyler were once best friends. Now they live in the same house (well, he’s in the pool house) and it feels like they should be friends still, but they’re not. Until maybe they are…and more? When Tyler’s faced with a choice, though – Annie, or his future, which will he choose? Which means more to him? Jax, Annie’s father and retired rockstar legend, has his opinion on what matters more to Tyler, and his choice will determine his and Annie’s future.
I have to say first that perhaps I am not in the right frame of mind for an angsty, moody and broody YA/NA read right now, because A Love Song for Liars grated on me a tad. But only a tad. When it wasn’t grating on me, I enjoyed it. Annie and Tyler have serious chemistry, and I think they have potential to be a great couple once they get out of their own ways, once they grow out of their angsty emo teenage phases, and I’m hoping that in the next installment, A Love Song for Rebels, the two will perhaps be in better places in their lives, be less teenagers and more adults. I have no doubt Annie will make Tyler work his ass off in apology, and I can’t wait to read it.
Wicked life!
Life in Dallas has been an adjustment for Annie Jamieson, now 17, who struggles to blend in at her exclusive high school. This crazy place is filled with spoiled, entitled teens looking for drama and the queen of them all, making it her job to get her claws into Annie every chance she gets. Maybe she’s afraid Annie’s beautiful light will outshine her rotten, selfish darkness.
Now Tyler is here, studying and working with her dad, learning more about making the music he loves from THE Jax Jamieson, world famous former rockstar. Between his wife, her new baby sister and his music projects, Annie is feeling disconnected and almost invisible in this house. Except of course when Jax wants to control her, not SEE her, overruling what she wants, every chance he gets.
Tyler, gorgeous and talented, has become the fascinating prince of her school, the main attraction, it seems everyone wants a piece of him. He wows them with his music, while living in her poolhouse, mostly avoiding her…but why??? What happened to that boy Annie thought she loved??? Who is this guy? She doesn’t even know him anymore!
Oh, the drama and torment- two hearts that shouldn’t be denied unless promises were made that could never be kept. Annie is stronger than she feels, fighting for what she wants- to be herself and not who everyone else thinks she should be.
Piper Lawson has the crazy ability to make me cry all over my Kindle as the heartwrenching cliffhanger she just left me with stops me in my tracks, while sending me back to the good old angsty teen years of my younger days! I loved her book, she killed it again, as I knew she would!!! This emotional coming of age story left me feeling like I was the one dying inside instead of sweet, kind and beautiful Annie Jamieson, as her heart experiences first loves and losses along with fighting for the future she wants.
There is a prequel out there, Love Notes, that is free on Amazon right now and provides more details of Annie and Tyler’s connection to each other. It’s another heart stopper, quickly read and totally worth the time- before, or even after reading this amazing tribute to young love. This is just the beginning as there are 2 more books to read in this trilogy, to get to what I hope will be the EPIC conclusion for Annie and Tyler’s story. I, for one, will be waiting for the end of May to read A Love Song for Rebels, Rivals #2!
I was gifted with an advanced copy to read and so happy to leave this honest review of a Love Song for Liars!
This. Book. Is. Everything! I absolutely loved it! It is so angsty in the very best ways. You will feel all the emotions. It starts off with Tyler and Annie finishing up their senior year of high school…hello drama! Their chemistry is intense and their friendship goes through several ups and downs. The ending basically ripped my heart out and I am still trying to recover. Need book 2 now!
A Love Song for Liars is an all-new friends to enemies to lovers romance in the Rivals trilogy by Piper Lawson and is written in the first-person point of view.
A Love Song for Liars is the beginning of Tyler and Annie’s love story. They start as friends until they are ripped apart when her father makes her move. After Tyler moves into the pool house at Annie’s house, he becomes the prince of Oakwood Prep where he betrays Annie and their friendship. Piper Lawson is a new to me author and I am looking forward to the next book in this series to see where Tyler and Annie’s story goes.
*ARC was generously provided in exchange for my honest review*
Reading about Annie and Tyler in the wicked series and seeing the potential they had musically and together has come to the forefront. After the wedding and continued distance can they make their way back to each other or has the time and distance been too much? Will Tyler be able to tell Annie about his past and move to towards a future?
This is the 1st in a trilogy, and omg, I need the others asap! This is Annie and Tyler’s story. These two are total opposites, but the chemistry between them if off the charts, and as the story goes on you realize they have more in common than they think. This is a beautifully written story which is intense and filled with angst, emotion, drama, heartbreak, bullying, misunderstandings and love. I was totally captivated throughout this epic page turner, and I highly recommend for all.
Annie doesn’t exactly have the life one would expect of the daughter of the most famous rock star. She had her world turned upside down as a kid. On top of being a junior in high school, she’s had her best friend ghost her and is holding onto a major secret with no one to talk to.
Tyler had his reasons for ghosting Annie. His own world was in its own chaos. When Annie’s dad invites him to live in their pool house and offers to help him with his music career, he’s got a chance at making something of himself.
What happens when they can no longer deny their feelings?
Oh my heavens! This book gave me all the feels! There was so much angst and emotions! It gave me a bit of nostalgia of first loves and all the drama and uncertainty that comes with high school.
I loved Annie! Tyler describes her perfectly how she wears her heart on her sleeve. Tyler was more difficult for me. He flip flopped, which unnerved me. Until he described his inner conflict about Annie. Then I was all in!
Jax actually frustrated me. I was hoping he would spend more time with Annie and nurture her hopes and dreams. There wasn’t much dialogue between them. And then he says that line about our hearts making liars of us and what he says after. That nearly did me in! That whole conversation between he and Tyler nearly wrecked me. Until the very end of the book, which left me gasping with a pounding heart!
Nothing comes easy for the characters Piper Lawson creates. They are raw and real and she puts them through the ringer. And I always seem to love them more! So once again, I’m on pins and needles waiting for the next book and wondering if my heart will be able to handle it!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I know this will be an epic love story that will go through trials and triumphs! I love how the characters and storyline are being developed. There is so much that Tyler and Annie have been through in their young lives and yet as young and resilient as they are the decisions they make left me feeling all the angst and emotions that young love can bring. I can’t wait for the next book to see where this goes!
I loved this book so much it is a fantastic NA story and one that I couldn’t put down. This may only be the first book in Annie and Tyler’s journey but I have a feeling it is going to be an epic love story. First love wrtitten so beautifully with all the angst and emotions you would expect from teenagers. The connection between is so easy to see and feel. With so much expectation on his young shoulders Tyler has to make decisions far beyond his young years. This has the usual cool guys and mean bitchy girls it is high school afterall but it also has a maturity to it. I can’t wait to see where their story goes in the next book.
Youthful Angst And Young Love
Good reading that gets into the goings-on of late high school to early colleagues and all the myriad emotions these youth face for the first time in their lives. Both the main male and main female characters have familial issues they are trying to work through, as well as high school academics, all sorts of extra-curricular activities and right in the throes of first love. Oh my … All these scenarios are well presented and delved into by Ms. Lawson.
I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel from the author and I am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation to this author.
I have been dragged through the emotional ringer. Annie and Tyler need to be together, this is what I want as a reader. But I know that if it just happened, it wouldn’t be compelling for me to read and thoroughly enjoy. Annie is struggling with establishing her identity in a world where rock stars live and a father probably feels guilty for missing so much of her childhood. As she pursues the school musical, she comes under fire of the mean girls, aka Carly and her minions. Tyler coming to work with Jax on his music is a blessing and curse. She became good friends with him in New York but then he ghosted her when she moved to Texas. Deep down, she wants that friend back but he is the new ‘prince’ of the school. Tyler has me confused and intrigued. As he works to stay away from Annie, as he promised Jax, little things start to be revealed about his childhood and family life This young man has overcome a lot and knows that music is his true passion. He just wants to play and make a living so that he can pay rent and buy food. He doesn’t need to be a star but with his talent, is there any other choice? The beauty of this journey is experiencing two amazing people as they strive to find their true selves without losing sight of what’s really important. Of course, this road is never easy so will they find a path that allows them to travel it together? I’m all in and so excited to experience the rest of this amazing couple’s ride. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
