This story has a few flaws about British behavior. This is a young naive girl who has been terrorized by a powerful man. Her parents seek her a wealthy husband and are blind to his charm and dreams for their daughter. Amos is almost too good to be true. He’s the dream man of every Christian woman. Even when Amos is raked with guilt, he tries to make his lies the truth. In my opinion, it’s better to ask for forgiveness, then try and make it right. Doing things behind people’s back has a way of backfiring, read story. The Duke, the villain of this piece, is way too arrogant and just a little stupid. If Amos really wanted to play his cards right, he should have brought the sheriff with him after he was hit. All in all it had its exciting moments, but both characters didn’t have that spark.
This story is built on unusual premises. I can understand Gemma’s discomfort more than I can Amos’s. Perhaps it is the time we live in that Amos’s lie doesn’t seem to warrant the effect on him or his co-workers. It is easier to understand Gemma’s worry about her parents not knowing what had happened to her. Besides that this is a very well written story with interesting characters. Lilah Rivers always gives us entertaining and compelling story lines and this one is no exception. Things are definitely not what they seem.
A very enjoyable sweet story. It is emotional, suspenseful, surprising with danger, intrigue and so much more. Her parents want her to marry a man she can see has a bad side but her parents don’t seem to care. So she decides to be a mail order bride out in the west. Trouble is the man she is going to meet and herself are not completely honest with each other. And what happens when on top of that the past comes knocking? Very attention getting story. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
