An FBI agent and an heiress have to get up close and personal on an undercover assignment in this thrilling romance from the author of The Thing About Love.As the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of the city’s top wine store, Jordan Rhodes is invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s only one party the FBI wants to crash: the charity fund-raiser of a famous … of a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob. In exchange for her brother’s release from prison, Jordan is going to be there—with a date supplied by the Bureau.
As the top undercover agent in Chicago, Nick McCall has one rule: never get personal. This “date” with Jordan Rhodes is merely an assignment—one they’re both determined to pull off even if they can’t be together for five minutes before the sarcasm and sparks begin to fly. But when Nick’s investigation is compromised, he and Jordan have no choice but to pretend they’re a couple, and what starts out as a simple assignment begins to feel a lot like something more…

Julie James writes books I can’t put down. A Lot Like Love kept me up way past midnight!
Julie James has become an autobuy for me. If you love FBI romantic suspense with great world building, but not so much detail it drags down the pace, you need to read Julie. Lots of great romantic chemistry, and perfect HEAs.
Awesome book
This was engaging and great from beginning to end. Jordan is an heiress who is really down to earth even though her twin is in prison for shutting down twitter (it was twitter!) and she is approached by the FBI to help in a sting operation to bring down a money launderer and they will release her brother early. Jordan owns a wine shop and close to the man who is throwing the party they need access to. Nick McCall is an undercover FBI agent who was supposed to be backup until the flu took down Jordan’s FBI date and Nick had to step in and the chemistry between these two could warm up even the coldest Chicago winter night. Nick sure did earn the moniker tall, dark and smoldering and these two have to learn to co-exist, especially when things get all kinds of up and close and dangerous. Oh yeah, I am looking forward to the rest of this series!
Loved this book. I will read all in this series.
I enjoyed this book very much. Great plot and characters.
The book was like real life. It’s up and downs. You work to get where you want to be, if your partner want’s the same, then your life gets better.
The give and take between Jordan and Nick as they went from really disliking each other to tolerating each other to falling for each other was really fun. There was also suspense and danger to contend with along the way. Jordan’s wayward brother was an interesting subcharacter in his few scenes.
I have read this book three or four times in the last few years since I bought it. It is a quick and diverting read.
This book was cute. It was funny to read the interaction between the two.
Jordan is the most down to earth heiress I think I’ve read! She’s mindful, works hard, enjoys the little things, and has a great sibling bond with her twin brother, Kyle. I love how she is with her best friends and cracked up with her fake relationship to Nick.
Nick is a little rough around the edges, (okay maybe more then a little, but less then a lot) but cleans up pretty well when he wants to. Working undercover has worn Nick out somewhat, but being paired with Jordan has woken up his inner caveman in ways even he didn’t see coming.
It’s so much fun to see a tough guy falling love;)
I love pretty much everything I’ve read by Julie James. Her main characters have snappy banter, great chemistry, and some of the best laugh-out-loud scenes I’ve come across, and the rest of the cast?! Holy smoley, I crack up whenever someone new comes on the page! I don’t know how many times I’ve read the FBI/US ATTORNEY series, but they never get old and I love revisiting some of my favorite characters.
Jordan Rhodes is the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of a wine store, she gets invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s one party the FBI wants an invite to and they want Jordan’s cooperation in getting them into this event. It’s a charity fundraiser that a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob puts on every year. If Jordan can get them inside by having a agent as her date then an exchange for her brother’s release from prison will take place in a week.
Agent Nick McCall wants Jordan the minute he sees her. He’s a undercover agent in Chicago, and Nick has one rule that he follows and that is to never get serious, he doesn’t do relationships. Nick has to keep telling himself that this date with Jordan is an assignment. They’re both determined it pull it off for obvious reasons, even though they can’t get along for five minutes before sparks begin to fly. When the investigation is compromised, he and Jordan must pretend to be a couple. What seems like a simple assignment turns into something a lot more.
Quick fun read
I liked the plot and characters. I just got very tired of the language, which seemed to get worse as the book went on. Why can’t authors write contemporary romance without all the f-bombs?
Jordan and her alpha male partner
are great together
funny but a lot going on in this book
holds your interest and is quick reading
couldn’t put it down
highly recommend
Loved it. Wish she would write more. She does not write a lot. She is an excellent story teller.
Julie James is an auto buy for me. Love her work!
Can’t go wrong with a Julie James story! Cute, funny and suspenseful, you’ll enjoy all her books.
