Good read, but disturbing subject for a mother.
This is a fab read, keeps you guessing to the endf……highly recommended
DCI Jack Logan has become my favorite (anti) hero and JD Kirk is my newest favorite author. Equal parts horror and humor, filled with memorable characters and inventive dialogue, this book (and all of the DCI Jack Logan series) will grab you right from the start and take you on a roller coaster of a read! Can’t say enough good things about these books. Read them!
Great series openner. Really enjoyed it.
This is a Scottish crime thriller that really delivers. I found the writing very accomplished and the story was extremely well thought out with an engaging protagonist.
For once, I didn’t guess the ending. After completing this novel I went straight to Amazon and picked up the second in this series (thicker than water) which is equally good.
I am also squeemish about crime novels involving kids. Not so much that I can’t bear anything bad happening to children – I know this does happen – but I find books where crimes are described in detail to be very off-putting. This book handles the more grizzly elements without fanfare and yet without short-changing the reader in terms of what they need to know. I think that might be one of the reasons I found it such a good read – despite the nasty implications, it didn’t turn me off in that way, and I was compelled to continue.
So – if you like British crime novels with flawed but engaging detectives, this is a great read. Unfortunately, it’s currently an Amazon exclusive in eBook form, but that’s good news for Kindle Unlimited subscribers. Still, it’s worth picking up the paperback if you enjoy this sort of thing.
This is a series that is growing in strength. The banter between the police officers is very funny and realistic from the start, and the plots are good (highish on the noir scale). There’s an increasing delicacy of touch with describing emotion and character, though, that sets these books above your average police procedural.
this book started me reading all the books I this series. Very good.
I can’t wait to read the next one!
I loved this gritty Scots crime drama! The characterizations were excellent and the story a real page turner. I look forward to reading more about these characters by this author .
A Litter of Bones is the first book in this new Scottish Noir series (or as the page says Tartan Noir.) I liked the author’s description: “Ten years ago, DCI Jack Logan stopped the serial child-killer dubbed ‘Mister Whisper,’ earning himself a commendation, a drinking problem, and a broken marriage in the process.” I enjoyed it so much I bought the next two books. Cheers Lynda L. Lock (Isla Mujeres Mystery series).
An impressive debut featuring the intriguing Detective Chief Inspector Jack Logan and the psychopathic Mr Whisper. Can’t wait for the next book!
