They find his body at the bottom of Heceta Head Lighthouse—Ed Boone, a longtime volunteer who commits suicide rather than see his grim diagnosis to its bitter end. The strangeness of the old man’s death makes the local news, but Garrison Gage thinks little of it until the famous Nora West sneaks into town with an unsettling letter in hand.Professing he wants to go to his grave with a clear … clear conscience, Ed claims to be Nora’s biological father. But the revelation stirs up all kinds of complicated emotions for the talented but troubled musician, who hires Gage to find out the truth.
Yet the truth may be a lot more disturbing — and dangerous — than either of them expect.

What a delightful surprise this book is. I’d like to see more.
Felt like I was there…..
this novel stopped my interest in Garrison Gage. in the next one in the series, i no longer recognised the main character.
Another great story about Garrison Gage and his life on the Oregon Coast. This one will keep you guessing until the end. Scott Carter is has once again developed his characters beyond just the current plot, Garrison’s relationship with Zoe is now becoming clear as they continue to adjust to the “father/ daughter” scenario.
A great work to be enjoyed with his other novels.
Great author and weaves a great story
Having lived on the Oregon Coast makes this read very fun and exciting. The locations are real and the characters fit coast people. This series is fun to read
I always find the curmudgeonly Gage endearing, because of the heart underneath, but also got tired of all the introspection and don’t buy the sexual encounters in the book. The mystery is interesting.
I have read the entire series. I enjoy the characters and the fast paced stories
The characters were likable and interesting, but there was way too much vulgarity, needless sex, and references to things that really didn’t help the story along. I didn’t finish the book.
A crippled, retired detective and a beautiful, talented singer/songwriter looking for the truth in the past. Another great story in an excellent series. I could write many paragraphs about it, but let’s just say, if you like well written stories, great characters and good detective novels, add this one and get the others in the series.
Worth your time and money for hours of pleasure reading.
This mystery series is filled with interesting, characters, a beautiful location, a cranky, haunted, self aware P.I and good plots. This one includes the departure of a good cat and arrival of a good dog too. It’s well written, evocative and engaging. There are some unexpected twists and turns in the plot (and a few typos in the text). An excellent series with this as one of its strongest entries.
Addicting and hard to put down which caused loss of sleep. Could have less wording about sex. Don’t recall what happened to the bigger brother that Gage tied up in the cabin when he tried to rescue Nora from the yacht. Did anyone know he was there? Book was extremely exciting, lost lots of sleep may have been the reason I did not see what happened. You are truly one of the best authors of mysteries. Don’t change your style. (But do try to keep the sex part a little bit tamed down for me haha age 86)
I find this series to be well written and I love the character Garrison Gage. Always to look forward to the next book in the series.
Carter’s Garrison Gage series is a terrific series. This latest installment is just as interesting and wonderful to read as all of the previous works in the series. I can’t wait for more!
If you can get past all of the errors and misspelling. It’s a good read. Really like Garrison Gage.
I live on the Oregon Coast just 10 miles from the lighthouse in the book which made it even more entertaining and intriguing for me.
