Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.

Oh my, Helena has nailed it with A Lie for A Lie! I enjoyed the interaction between Rook and Lainey. Also, their love story and Kody…what a sweetheart! And the interaction among previous characters and new ones is a welcome update.
Helena kept my interest from page 1 until the end and then some.
Thank you Helena!
Hockey Hotties and their shenanigans at their best. Rook is one hot, seriously handsome and sexy NHL Star. Without a doubt that title comes with notoriety from the puck bunnies and fans. So what do you do if you want to escape, got to Alaska and enjoy the peace and quiet…or have a chance encounter with the woman that will change your life forever.
I was elated to get back into the hockey world that Helena Hunting perfected in her previous series, and yet there is a whole magical twist in this one. Rook gave me all the feels and Launey held her own. Their love was unconventional and so right for just the two of them! Fabulous beginning to a brand new series!! I am going to gobble up the rest because That is what happens to me when I dive into Helena Hunting’s books.
Oh this book is so good!! I loved it so much I didn’t want it to end!! Helena writes the best books this story was fast paced it kept you wanting more and the end was just perfect. I love how she writes. A perfect second chance romance.
RJ (Rook) Bowman Captain of the hockey team is ready for his year escape to Alaska a little fishing peace and quiet is just what he needs. To bad his brothers trip was cut solo when complications with his sister in laws pregnancy intervened.
Laney is off to Alaska for work and school she needs to finish her thesis and research the wildlife. She had no idea flying was going to be this terrible. Good thing a sexy teddy bear beside her helps her cope.
A whirlwind romance from the stuff of romance novels happens. To bad when it ended just as quickly as it started. Will they get a second chance when they find each other a year later? Was it just a perfect as they imagined when they were alone in their Alaskan paradise? Secrets will come out.
This book was just one of those that you wanted it to end to see what happened but at the same time it was so good that it could have been linger.
I love a good sports romance and this hockey love was perfect. I can’t wait for book two.
A summer romance that starts with a lie. Missed chances and broken hearts. Until fate intervenes and seconds chances are possible. Except everything is not as it seems and some hearts might not want to risk the chance of another heartbreak. Funny, endearing and unique in Helena Hunting hockey world with lots of visitors from previous books and a happily-ever-after that’s perfect and satisfying.
Oh how I love RJ and Lainey together. From their very adorable meet cute to their summer fling and their reconnection. Their path to happily ever after was so heartwarming to read. Helena Hunting is becoming one of my must read authors even though she writes in dual first person POV. A Lie for a Lie is a wonderful, sexy and sweet second chance romance that I highly recommend.
Rook and Lainey were such a sweet couple. Rook was totally smitten with Lainey and he let fear cloud his judgement and common sense. Their love affair was a beautiful whirl wind. Their relationship is complicated as they both have keept white lies. Some more life changing then others. They have to work past all the feelings, lies and hurt that have been through since the day they met. As the saying goes, things have to get worse before they get better.
I loved this second chance romance and it was awesome to be back with picked crew as well, even if just for a quick beat.
You will be All In!!
It started with the Pucked series and the journey now continues with the All In series spin-off from Helena Hunting. A Lie for a Lie is the first book in the series and it will leave in stitches as you roar with laughter- anticipating what will happen yet; swooning and sighing with every romantic and sexy overture; and at times reaching for the tissues when those tears start rolling.
The story centers around Rook and Lainey and what started as a lie, ends up changing their lives forever.
This is another fantastic read from this author and you will have a soft spot for Rook, I know that I did. An absolute must read book and incredible start to this series. You will not be disappointed!!!
A Lie for a Lie was so sweet and sexy and filled with so much love and emotion. I loved the build of the story and fell madly in love with Lainey and RJ. This was an excellent read and a fantastic way to kick off a series!
This highly anticipated new series has finally started and it’s everything we love in Helena Hunting’s books. It’s so funny, seriously laugh out loud, snort funny and the banter is priceless. And the romance is so swoony it will melt your hearts. And last but not least the steam factor, well let’s just say Rook has all the right moves!!! Yes please. Rook just wants to have a little peace and quiet at his family’s vacation cabin before he starts his new job as the captain of Alex’s new hockey team. He literally has Lainey fall in his lap on the plane during turbulence and their sweet little meet cute begins. They both are keeping secrets but they are honest enough to say the next month will be about living in the moment and having lots and lots and lots of fun!!!! After a big mishap the two lose touch for a year. Both are so impacted by the loss but Rook is determined to try and win Lainey back. Lainey not so much. She hasn’t really gotten over learning that Rook is a huge rich celebrity hockey player and now she’s keeping an even bigger secret. The two join an awkward dance of sorts but the ride is great. Rook is the boyfriend you want and refuse to ever let go. Lainey is the bff you adore. Loved this book. Can’t wait for Stevie & Bishop next. The Narration was incredibly good.
A Lie for a Lie is a sweet with a touch of angst romance. Rook and Lainey meet while on vacation in Alaska. After meeting on the plane, they find they are neighbors and begin spending time together. This eventually leads to a romance. When Rook unexpectedly has to leave early, they aren’t able to contact each other afterwards until they unexpectedly meet again a year later. Both have secrets and had withheld something from the other. Can they trust each other and rebuild a relationship?
I loved both Lainey and Rook. They were made for each other and this book was surprisingly emotional while also being sweet and loving. The heat level was off the charts and I loved watching Rook and Lainey work out their misunderstandings.
It was also fun to see Alex and Violet from Pucked again. Watching those characters interact with the new characters was perfection. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.
I loved this book. I loved the characters. I loved having the Puck Series characters involved!! These two were just perfect and the narration was spot on amazing!! A definite must read!!
This is my first book by Helena Hunting and definitely won’t be the last. RJ (Rook) is ready for vacation an to get out of the lime light of being an NHL Star. Lanie is a small town girl that literally falls into RJs lap on the way to Alaska. They share a great few weeks and due to life (and stupidity- who doesn’t share phone numbers) they lose touch. When fate brings them back together they have to deal with the lies that were told. This was a great story and even though RJ is a big time NHL star, their relationship seemed very real and not over the top. Looking forward to the next book in the series, and now want to go back and read the Pucked series.
I don’t even know where to start with this awesome book! I could not be more excited for a spin-off from the Pucked world, and seeing those characters again made me SO happy. But, it’s RJ and Lainey who I loved from that first airplane ride. Second chances, secrets, and lies were woven so perfectly into a story that kept me turning the pages and rooting for everyone to have the HEA they deserve! I loved that her background story was timely and real, and I loved how RJ’s love for her made them both stronger. I cannot wait for more from this series!
NO SPOILERS!
I absolutely LOVED A Lie for a Lie, and it has definitely been one of my favorite romances from Helena Hunting to date! The storyline and characters were phenomenal, and I adored the author’s prose and hilarious sense of humor.
A Lie for a Lie had everything you could possibly want: tons of romance, love, laughter, swoon-worthiness, endearing characters, and an entertaining storyline. I absolutely loved Rook and Lainey. They had extremely lovable personalities and fantastic chemistry together. I loved all of their banter and interactions with each other, and how their relationship progressed throughout. The secondary characters were amazing as well, and added so much laughter and entertainment. Rook and Lainey’s story was amazing and unforgettable in every way, and I was absolutely ecstatic with the conclusion.
Helena Hunting created a sweet, sexy, swoon-worthy, entertaining, and unforgettable romance with A Lie for a Lie, and I can’t wait to devour more MUST READ love stories from her, especially the rest of the All In series!
4.5 stars
I loved RJ and Lainey and their story. I love how he is able to bring her comfort from the very beginning on the plane ride. I love how they get to know each others’ character and qualities. I hate that they miss some important details that makes their separation occur. I really felt for Lainey and her situation. And my heart was broken when they reconnect and RJ realizes what he has missed. I really appreciated the mature approach to the difficulties they face in order to stay together. I was obsessed with the depth of RJ’s feelings about Lainey. I really enjoyed this book so much and I very musch liked that I could get it in Whispersync audible and eBook through Kindle Unlimited.
5 Stars!
A Lie for a Lie by Helena Hunting is the first book in the All In series. It’s a sweet, emotional, funny, and sexy second chance romance. This story made me smile with it’s heartwarming and swoon-worthy moments!
Rook Bowman aka RJ is the captain of Chicago’s NHL team. Every year, he heads off to Kodiak Island, Alaska for his annual trip. On his way, he meets a gorgeous woman, Lainey Carver. He’s immediately intrigued by her, especially since she doesn’t seem to recognize him. So he doesn’t tell her who he is and leads her to believe he has a totally different life. They spend a sweet and steamy few weeks together and fall in love with each other.
Then RJ has a family emergency that forces him to leave without a way to contact her. As they never exchanged their last names or phone numbers. Now fourteen months later, they meet again in Chicago. But this time secrets threaten to keep them apart. Secrets that are going to change both of their lives.
Lainey and RJ were just so sweet and perfect together. I absolutely loved RJ. He was extremely gentle, caring, protective, and thoughtful. I loved his determination to win her back. I adored Lainey. She was this sweet, quirky, intelligent, nerdy girl who, at times can be awkward and anxious due to her past traumatic incident. But she was also so brave and strong and made some big decisions when they’re apart.
All in all, it was a great read! I’m so looking forward to the next one A Favor for A Favor!
***5 Stars***
I’m all kinds of swoony and twitterpatted after reading this book, ALL. KINDS. OF. and kicking myself for not getting to it sooner but #lifehappens. But I gotta say this one surprised me in the best of the ways and once I started, putting it down wasn’t an option.
I ADORED RJ and Lainey. RJ is all kinds of book boyfriend goodness. Sweet, compassionate, protective…this man, simply put, gave me the swoons in a big, big way. Lainey is sweet, sassy, awkward ~ but in the best of ways. I loved her heart and her honesty.
Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun to watch. I loved how they first collided and got to know each other without any distractions. True, there was an omission/lie, but they got to see just who the other was and though things happened quickly, it was so obvious how good they were together because they truly adored each other. Their second collision wasn’t as smooth, but considering everything they had dealt with since their sudden separation, it was necessary, but I truly enjoyed how everything played out between them and where they ended up.
I’ve read a few of the authors books, though I will admit that the Pucked series isn’t one of them, but this one may just be my fav of the bunch. She did a great job with all the characters, each were unique and easy to connect with in one way or another. But what I liked the best was how she kept everything balanced out when it came to the drama and the humor. This really was a great read and I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the series!

I haven’t read much of Helena’s work but I kept seeing post after post about this book so I decided to dive in and I am SO BEYOND GLAD THAT I DID! RJ and Lainey are everything.
From the very beginning, I am wondering about these two and then when it shows me their past, I can’t help but want them to be together.
I can’t help but feel bad for RJ as he tries to make Lainey see why he lied but I also totally understand her when she completely dismisses him at first. I would be the same way. The situation they found themselves in was a crazy wonderful ride and they were truly meant to be together.
I am obsessed with RJ. Yes he has a past, but it’s a past he is so desperately trying to get away from. The way he treats Lainey is out of this world and I want him to be my safety cuddle. I absolutely adore him and he is definitely among the top of my list of favorite book boyfriends. He is sweet and caring, protective and loving. Just everything.
If you haven’t yet read any of Helena’s work, I really suggest you dive in and read. I have read the series this is tied into so if you would like to start there, go find Pucked.
Five stars for this beautifully written, second chance sports romance that will have you swooning and in love with RJ.
4.5 Stars!
I loved this sweet & sexy, second chance romance! Lainey has lead a sheltered life and is looking to break out and be on her own. She loves learning and is renting a cottage in Alaska to get some field observation in for her degree. She has a hilarious meet cute with a sexy man who turns out to be staying close by. RJ is heading to his family cottage alone for the first time. It is an annual trip he usually takes with his Dad who has recently passed. RJ is the captain of his Chicago hockey team and a reformed playboy. He is looking for quiet time to rest and renew before heading back to Chicago to begin training for the season. He is attracted to this sexy, nerdy woman who fell in his lap. They connect immediately and he loves that she does’t know him. They start to spend time getting to know each other and have fun together. Soon they can’t deny the fiery attraction between them and begin a passionate affair. It is cut short when RJ is called away suddenly, leaving them both without a way to contact the other. They are both heartbroken and forced to move on. One year later they meet again, unexpectedly. RJ is so excited to see Lainey and wants nothing more than to make Lainey his for good. But she can’t trust him after learning who he really was, and for breaking her heart. Lainey also has her own secrets she isn’t willing to reveal. RJ and Lainey are so cute together, having fun, supporting and challenging each other. I really enjoyed all their friends and family who added so much support and fun to this story.
Stella Bloom, and Jason Clarke narrate this moving, fun, and passionate story flawlessly. I loved how they nailed these characters so perfectly, making them their own. I was completely lost in their performance as they made me feel all the complex emotions both RJ and Lainey felt.
This is a great start to a new series and I can’t wait for the next book in the All In series!
Rook aka RJ and Lainey meet while fling from Seattle to Alaska. RJ is going to escape the hustle and bustle of being captain of an NHL team. Lainey is going to do research to obtain her masters degree, her third masters degree. They hit it off and end up spending the summer together. The whole time they are together sharing each other and falling in love, RJ fails to mention that he is a famous hockey player. Before he can come clean he is forced to leave for a family emergency, neither one exchanging contact info.
This book has one of my favorite tropes but fails to impress me every single time (not sure why it is my favorite if it seems to miss for me each time but I still love it). But let me say that Helena did not miss with this book. It was perfection even though I saw it coming in the first chapter. I absolutely adored RJ and Lainey’s story. This book as the conflict at about the half way mark instead of at the 80% mark which makes me happy. I loved how much together time we got to have with them. Gave me all the warm and fuzzies that I needed. RJ is patient, understanding, amazing, endearing, charming and so damn lovable. I couldn’t get enough of how patient he was with all of Lainey’s quirks and I have to stop there because spoilers. But we can just say that RJ has my heart. And then there is Lainey. She is so damn special. I love how strong she is despite her parents, her upbringing and everything she has gone through. I loved how even though she has anxiety issues was strong enough to always try new things and always make the best of any situation. She is the damn hero in this story. Job well done Helena. I highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to devour more of your books.
