A murderer in our midst. A mysterious connection to the past. An enemy I can’t stop crushing on.
I’ve dreamed of attending Spellcasters Spy Academy for as long as I can remember. But as it turns out, it’s not the academic utopia I imagined.
This place is dangerous as hell. And I don’t mean the classes.
They say the students in the Culling year, my year, are cursed. Someone is picking us off. … year, are cursed. Someone is picking us off. Or maybe something.
Between challenging courses, my irritating crush, and the enigmatic curse, I have my hands full, but there’s no way I’m giving up on my dream.
I’m here to stay. That is, as long as I’m not the murderer’s next victim.

This was a very exciting book that kept me reading until the tension got too great and I had to take a break. There is a full cast of supernatural creatures, in addition to witches: fae, shifters, vampires, many kinds of demons, even the Royals of Hell. They have begun to take over our world. Some of the first-year students become very close friends, despite Odette Dane being a legacy student. There are many heart-stopping moments and many episodes of courage, loyalty to friends and school, and interesting insight into the various classes the students take as they learn about arcane subjects.
Odette Dane gets into Spellcasters Spy Academy as a legacy admission due to her parents, so she didn’t have to take the entrance exam. She finds out that she is way behind her classmates in magic, which is what everyone uses for almost everything. Now, after a brutal murder she almost witnessed, she finds out her class year is cursed and her peers have been dying. Odette’s classmates are nearly kidnapped by a fae. Odette, Alex, Hunter, and Eva become best buds during the year, and work well together. Odette finally unbinds her magic with Alex’s help. She gets a very scary explanation from her parents why they bound her magic. Once unbound, her power is set loose and she has trouble controlling it. There is a big showdown at the Beltane trial as Odette and Alex find they are bonded with Merlin’s and Morgan’s ancestry. During their summer internship, they have another big showdown in Portland and find out Fae and Demons are joining forces to come back into the world.
A Legacy Witch was so good I read it through twice before writing my review.
Loved the story…
Love the concept…
Love, Love, Love the characters…
Can’t wait for more Spellcasters Academy adventures…
Odette, Eve, Alex and Hunter 4 magical witches who came to Spellcasters Academy to train to become magical spy’s and what a first year they’ve had.
Learning, trials, culling, and death all part of life for a Spellcaster Student.
Fantastic read!!!
I fell totally in love with this book, Odette is an amazing FMC, liked her immediately… why being a Legacy is so frowned upon?, why her new classmates are so mean to her?… Growing up without practicing magic and far away from the magical community, has left Odette in a really difficult situation, having to prove herself and everybody at the Academy, that she belongs there… Thank God she found two amazing people, Eve and Hunter, who soon become her best friends and have her back at all times!!! … Now, will she be able to pass the trials which will decide if she deserve to stay?, will she survive the constant criticism and mockery from her classmates?, will she find out what this strong attraction to Alex means and do something about it? … Go get this book and find out yourselves … Can’t wait for the next book!!!
Awesome starter for a series. Definitely ready to read rest
Wow, must read!!!
If you like witches, demons, vampires and more this is the book for you.
Odette is a witch but her parents raised her in the human world without magic. She decides to go to the same college her parents did but it’s a fast paced magic college. Odette is behind the curve from the very beginning because she has never really used magic before. She is going to school to learn about magic and how to use it but all the other students already know how to use magic and are there to refine their skills and get stronger. Compared to the other students Odette’s power is weak and she struggles with the smallest magical tasks. She makes friends with a few people but the other students don’t want anything to do with her.
This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
Ashley McLeo hit a home run with this book, it is amazing and a must read.
I enjoyed this whole series. Was a great series to read to take my mind of reality.
I like it when my protagonists have to work a little. Not everything comes easily to Odette in this story. Her character felt more real because of this. All the characters are well written. The world building was really good, as well. Though there was drama and some dark times, Odette and her friends akways had a feeling of hope. It was just what I needed. Really a fun urban fantasy.
I loved this book. I got sucked in right from the start. An interesting plot and characters you come to know and care about.
Odette is so excited as a Legacy Witch to attend the Spellcaster Spy Academy. However things don’t go has planned, her magic is being difficult and dealing with Alex is tough. Now with the mystery of witches dying, she must stay alive and figure out whats going on. Without giving away the whole story, i can say this book is great and i’m excited to see what A Rebel Witch brings
Loved this book it was very interesting and leaves u on a cliffhanger
This book is all you could want and more. The chemistry that grows between the main characters is all I could ask for. The mystery kept me hanging on by my finger tips. I highly recommend reading, you won’t be disappointed.
This is the first book in The Spellcasters Spy Academy series by Ashley Mcleo and it was incredible! Ashley has created a unique mystical/fantasy young adult series and once I started reading I couldn’t but it down. Odette is a Legacy Witch following in the footsteps of her parents. Discouraged her from using her magic as a child she is behind her fellow students and if she doesn’t improve she will never pass the trials to move on to the next level. It doesn’t help that students are dying and there may be a curse on the first years. With help from her new friends Eva, Hunter and Alex she works hard to prove to everyone she belongs. This book is full of adventure, twists and turns, is fast paced and action packed. I can’t wait to read more about Odette, Hunter, Alex and Eva in year two of the Spellcasters Spy Academy Series!
This was a very enjoyable story with lots of twists and turns, relationship development and magical mystery. Recommended for young adults and those young at heart.
I really loved this book and read at every free moment that I had. I have a new favourite book by Ashley McLeo. The story flowed well and it is a real
Page turner. I really like Odette and how she copes with her first year, she is a strong character. Eva, Alex and Hunter are great support and are just what Odette needs. Highly recommend this book.
This book will draw you in and not let you go. Ashley is one of my favorite authors to read, and this book does not disappoint. I enjoyed the storyline and plot and I can’t wait for more. The characters are interesting and make you want to know more about them.
Another awesome academy read that I just could not put down! This is a well written upper YA/NA paranormal academy novel with an espionage twist! Filled with With mysterious deaths, supernatural creatures, drama, magic and enemies to lovers, this is a great start to this series and I cannot wait to read more!
A Legacy Witch follows students who are attending Spellcasters Spy Academy for the first time. The young witches and wizards are in training not only to be a spy but to learn to be better with their magic and to become stronger
The students have different trails they must face it they are to advance to the next class. The students learn about different demons and their abilities and how to fight them. Who will be strong enough to advance to the next class?
There are less first year students this year as someone has been killing them off one by one. Some believe that a curse was placed on first year students a long time ago. Who would want the students dead and why do they want them dead? Can they break the curse?
The students also come face to face with other paranormal creatures like vampires, demons, and elves as they are training and during the trails. The students have to learn to fight together and help each other instead of only fighting for themselves. Or competing against one another if they are ever hope to be a spy. They have to learn to trust one another and take charge of any given situation.
Once I picked up A Legacy Witch I couldn’t put it down I just wanted to turn the pages faster and faster as each student completed in their trails fighting demons and vampires to see who would make it out alive, the students or the demons. I also loved seeing the students use their magic, oh man that would be an awesome sight to behold.. I can’t wait to read more about Odette, Hunter, Alex and Eva in year two of the Spellcasters Spy Academy.
If you like reading about witches, magic, demons, vampires or elves in an academy setting then you are going to fall in love with A Legacy Witch I highly recommend that you one click yourself a copy today to begin this magical journey.
This is another “off to magic school” book but with enough tweeks and differences to make it interesting and worth the read. The main characters are intriguing and for the most part likable. There is a larger plot behind just going to learn magic. The idea that they are basically training to work with the governments is a great concept which I liked . I am looking forward to the next book.
New series with a strong start! Odette Dane comes from a long line of spy witches/warlocks and is determined to become one of them. When she starts at Spellcaster Spy Academy, she realizes how outclassed she is. Her parents encouraged her to not use magic, so she is starting behind everyone else. She can barely work up the magic to do anything, and most of her classmates taunt and tease her lesser abilities. Fortunately, she finds friends in Eva and Hunter, who help her as best they can.
When death starts stalking the first-year students, Odette discovers the truth about why her parents did not want her to come to Spellcaster, and why there seems to be a curse following this batch of students. The school trials show her what she can do, but she must harness the power. She needs to find her way, find her magic, and work harder than she ever has in order to survive.
I really liked seeing Odette and the other characters develop and get stronger. Demons, fae, vampires, and shifters, oh my! This is an action-packed story, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next books.
Great start to a series. I loved the characters and the story. It has a lot of elements written it that kept me wanting more.
Odette Dane is a Legacy Witch who has been wanting to go to Spellcaster Academy since she can remember. Here is the twist Spellcaster is a Spy school for witches. What? Right that was what I said. As she navigates through school she is met with disdain because she is not as strong as everyone else. Also because she didn’t take the exam so that leaves everyone think about what she really could do. Odette really tries hard to excel but is having difficulty with her magic. She doesn’t understand why her parents were reluctant to let her go to school. Then everything just takes a turn for the worst. She tries to get answers and if it wasn’t for her friends Hunter and Eva she would be lost. She finds strength in herself and pulls through. Then there is Alex Wardwell who has been mean to her until she changes his view of her. These four go through a lot and learn from each other. Over the course of the school year secrets are revealed, love interest are established and tragedy strikes. Does Odette have enough magic to succeed? Can she change overcome her challenges? What will happen with her and Alex? So many questions but they all get answered.
I loved how Odette was strong through her struggles and is determined to get through school. She didn’t back down or let anyone get her down. Once you start, you will not want to stop. This is a definite must read and I loved the originality of it.
