Loved Aunt Edna. Short enjoyable read.
Scottish romances are my weakness, and this one was no exception. Fiona is a wonderful heroine and I enjoyed her journey to find her happily ever after. This is the first novella in a four-book miniseries, which ties in loosely to Ms. Andresen’s Lords of Scandal series – the earlier series doesn’t need to be read to understand and appreciate this series, but it does enhance the overall experience to know both Fiona’s and Exmouth’s individual stories.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
What A Way To Start A Series!!! A Lass to Love by Tammy Andresen is book 1 in the Brides of Scotland series. Tammy’s stories are so wonderful and A Lass to Love is just as wonderful. What I really liked about is book is that it takes place on a ship and the heroine is on her way to meet her fiancée who hasn’t bother to meet her in 5 years. This story is very original and I so enjoy Tammy’s style of writing. As you read it you can truly picture it in your mind… now that is talent! This story has a rogue who doesn’t want to marry, an opinionated aunt who like to hit people in the shine with her cane, mistrust, obsession, a loving cousin, secret rendezvous, being scandalous and yes love. I highly recommend this book.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
A Lass to Love is the first book in the new amazing Brides of Scotland series. This was another remarkable book by this author. Her style of writing always draws me into her books and her characters are always so endearing. We were introduced to Fiona as the betrothal of Lord Callum Exmouth in the Earl of Exile. This is her happy ever after story.
Fiona MacFarland has been engaged to the previous Earl of Exmouth and when he passed the new earl agreed to keep the betrothal. Fiona had never meet Callum and after being engaged for three years, she has decided to travel to England to find him. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to marry him or release him from the agreement, but she knew it was time to have the issue resolved. Fiona and her Aunt Edna were traveling to England on her cousin Colin’s ship.
Thomas Mayweather, a successful wool maker, was also traveling on Colin’s ship. He was enchanted by Fiona and disappointed to learn of her fiancé. When he learns the details of Fiona’s engagement, he offers to teach her how to gain her fiancé’s attention, never expecting to fall for Fiona himself. Will Thomas decide that Fiona is worth giving up his bachelorhood for?

where she had never been. Terrifying. But she’d been promised to him for over three years, yet she’d never met him and his letters had stopped.
Miss Fiona MacFarland and her Aunt Edna boarded he cousin Colin’s ship to make the journey. Technically she’d been been engaged to Exmouth’s cousin, who had died and then Exmouth had inherited the land, castle and his future wife.
But who does she meet on the ship, but “a handsome devil who made a woman’s breath catch”, Thomas Mayweather. “She couldn’t deny that he was the most gorgeous man she’d ever seen.” Like she needed another male problem.
Tom also noticed her, such a beauty but off limits because she was Colin’s cousin. But when he helped her rescue an injured bird in the water and their hands had touched.. It was beyond describing and he felt it too.
I loved Fiona, with her caring nature, helping wounded animals, which came from within for her own need for love. Tom was a merchant and had been wounded himself by being made to feel inferior with his dealings with the upper class.
A perfect match that had me smiling and my heart warming to see these two on their journey to be together! As always, I love everything this author writes and a great start to a new series!
Fiona MacFarland has spent six years of her life being engaged. Her first fiancé died and the second one she’s never even met. She’s decided to go to England and confront the absent fiancé who is rumored to be a rake and gambler. She and her aunt board her cousins ship for England where she meets her cousins very handsome friend Tom who’s also traveling to England.
Thomas Mayweather is a successful wool merchant who has been hurt by women of the ton who think he’s not good enough to be a part of the upperclass society. He finds Fiona very beautiful and enchanting. He thinks it’s terrible the way she’s been treated by her absent fiancé and offers to help her be able to understand rakes.
Neither one of them was prepared for the way they’d feel after a little flirting, kissing and a midnight rendezvous. They soon discover there’s more to this then a few tips on rakes.
This is an amusing, lighthearted and entertaining short read. Great stand alone story by Tammy Andresen.
I received this Arc copy as a gift and this is my honest voluntary review.
A Lass To Love is an entertaining historical romance by Tammy Andresen. This is a quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has crafted a well-written book populated with a fun cast of characters. Fiona is on her way to London to meet the man she’s been engaged to for years but never met. Thomas is on his way back to London after finishing his business in Scotland. Thomas and Fiona’s story is packed with humor and spice. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. A Lass To Love is book 1 of the Brides of Scotland Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a fun-filled romantic read – Tammy Andresen packs so much power into her characters & you become fully immersed in their story.
I felt so sad for Fiona McFarland in the Duke of Exile (previous book) as she had been betrothed to Exmouth by contract between their fathers but he had never attempted to meet her so she went to London to face him. I was afraid she would be timid & crushed when she went to break the engagement but it turned out she is a strong, feisty & beautiful Scottish lass that just wants her own life back.
Thomas Mayweather is a successful wool merchant, is a breathtakingly handsome rake & has decided he will never fit in to the world of the Ton & he is just a toy for the ladies wanting his handsome company for a short time.
But when Fiona & Thomas are introduced, it was fireworks & electricity from the moment their eyes met & it just kept building. This was a fabulous, short read that will keep you smiling and swooning until “The End”.
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Having been introduced to Fiona MacFarland in The Earl of Exile, I was happy to read her story and know that the insults that she had been served were finally laid to rest. She spent six years engaged to both the past and the present Earl of Exmouth and she is tired of being sidelined whilst rumours of her fiancé’s outrageous behaviour reach her. Accompanied by her aunt who has a wicked swing with her walking stick, Fiona boards her cousins ship to England where she meets and is mesmerised by Mr Thomas Mayweather. Tom has had his fill of society ladies and their disdain for him, but something about Fiona melts his heart. Her compassion touches him and when he makes a bargain with her, he discovers that he cannot bear the thought of her belonging to anyone else. The story is lighthearted and amusing as well as being romantic. Aunt Edna is a force to be reckoned with and even whilst Colin is protective of her, he is also fighting for Fiona’s future. This novella can be read in an evening but is well written and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Oh, shiny! It’s no secret I like Tammy Andresen’s short historical romances and A LASS TO LOVE is no exception!
Fiona MacFarland has been promised to an Earl, but he died and now she is forced to hold up her end of the bargain with his wayward replacement. Trouble is, she doesn’t know or want him, she is tired of not being able to be her own woman and she is tired of waiting for the inevitable. If the Earl won’t come to her, she will go to him. Of course she didn’t expect to find a man who would steal her heart while on route, either.
Thomas Mayweather may not be titled, but his fabrics do clothe the rich and the royal. His past doesn’t make him inclined toward marriage, until he catches sight of Fiona…now he can only hope to win her heart and convince her to break her arrangement with the Earl.
I feel like a broken record, because, once again, Tammy Andresen made me smile, especially when Fiona’s plight ties in neatly with another tale of love and romance by this amazing author. Short, light-hearted, no great angst, just well-defined characters who fill each page with passions for life, duty, and love! Wonderful reading about another woman strong enough to belong in any time period!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tammy Andresen! This is my honest and voluntary review.
A Lass to Love – Brides of Scotland – Tammy Andresen
Fiona MacFarland is travelling from Scotland to England on her cousin’s ship. Fiona’s intent it to find her betrothed, pass on the news of his aunts death and probably end their engagement. She’s had enough, six years of being engaged to two Earls and neither one came to marry her! Now she is ready to take her life back.
It just so happens that there is a very handsome gentleman travelling on Cousin Collin’s ship. This handsome gentleman, who caught Fiona’s eye the minute he arrived on the ship is Thomas Mayweather. Thomas is a very well known wool merchant and he supplies the woolen material for the Royals. Did I tell you he was handsome, polite, had eyes that drew Fiona in?
Tammy Andresen has given us a wonderful intersection between two of her series and she has done it with humour, respect, sparks and flourishing feelings between Fiona and Tom.
Both the heroine and hero feel that they have been left behind by love. Fiona being engaged for 6 years and Tom being used by women for his looks and passions, not as a man with feelings. The teaser of this whole story, her Earl was in one of Andresen’s previous books, a red haired gambling club owner, can you guess which Earl I’m talking about?
5 stars for this enchanting read and for bringing two special characters together.
I was given an ARC advanced reader copy of this book to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A new series we are going to love. Fiona is on a mission. Her cousin Colin is sailing her and their aunt to England. There is a little kink in the plan when Tom Mayweather boards the same ship. Midnight rendezvous and lessons in flirting, what could go wrong.
Fiona MacFarland has spent too much of her life waiting to be married. She’s got a fiancé, in fact she’s had a fiancé for many years, the first one died & now she’s engaged to his successor who has never bothered to come collect his bride. So when his aunt dies Fiona decides to travel to England to track the rogue down, she won’t be distracted by the rake, Thomas Mayweather. The only problem is that he’s so handsome, he’s difficult to ignore and then his kisses? Thomas Mayweather is a successful wool merchant which means he’s met his fair share of beautiful ladies. Many of which have wished to share his bed and then wash off the stench of the merchant class.
This is the first in a new series but we met Fiona before in the Earl of Exile, I was thrilled that she’s to have her HEA. A lovely read that I read in a sitting perfect to while away a few hours. Strong characters & a story that flows effortlessly. I loved both Tom & Fiona whose attraction sizzled & they were perfect for each other. We were introduced to the heroines of the next books & there’s also a cousin who’s ripe for the picking. I was drawn in from the start & engrossed until the last page
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
