A charming story of an American man’s life crossing the path of an English Lady. I liked the h’s character. She was a no nonsense, speak your mind and pick your battles type woman. She was for women’s rights before it became a movement and as a widow was still being restricted by her father and society. I loved her tenacity. Once she made up her mind that was that, no going back. She longed for adventure to see other countries and cultures. When she met the H she was immediately attracted to how handsome he was. She did not care that he was American. As a matter of fact, that made him more appealing to her. Due to a shipwreck the H had some memory loss. Over time he started to remember bits and pieces of his life. The more time he spent with the h the more he felt for her. But callus words were said and he left the h’s home for London to finish his business and return to America. The H is a decent kind man. He is always thinking of others in America, how he can help them with his new wealth. That was until he met with the solicitor of his uncle’s will and everything went upside down. This story had my stomach in knots. The push and pull between the h, her father, and the man her father setup for her to marry. It was constant tension, dislike and sometimes resentment as to what the they would derogatorily say about the American without knowing the facts sticking only to hearsay. An interesting emotional romance definitely fated. It was a fun read because you can’t help but get involved. I do recommend this book.
A Lady’s Taste for Temptation, Emily Honeyfield
Sometimes love is a briar patch
Lady Emily is a widow at the young age of nineteen. She is a product of her class, concerned about appearances in front of others. Her father picked her first husband, and he decides that it is time she marries again. He has invited a prospect for Emily to a lengthy stay in his home. Lady Emily is equally determined that her childhood friend, Catherine, joins the house party to take the pressure off of her over the proposed match.
Lady Emily is sure that she doesn’t want to wed her father’s choice. Fortunately, fate takes a twisted turn while the house party is on a picnic. Myles Whitehall, an American silversmith by trade, is shipwrecked and washed ashore near the family home. Lady Emily asks her father to provide a place for Myles to stay until he recovers.
Talk about the cat scattering the pigeons, Edward, the next-door neighbor, is close to Catherine and Emily, the unwanted suitor wants to marry Emily, Catherine wants to marry before becoming a spinster, Myles has amnesia, and Emily wants adventure. Oh, what an intriguing whirlwind plot ensues! A twisted tangle of misconceptions.
Will any of them find true love? Who will wind up with whom? Will Myles recover his memory?
Read this delightful tale, because I cannot tell more without giving the plot away.
