This story has some funny scenes, but Marion is concerned that someone is trying to harm Alexander. Although, she shuns the idea of being betrothed to him, her heart doesn’t want him to come to harm. There is no great mystery for the reader, because we know who the villain is, but these two become emotionally involved looking into the details of this issue. It is well written and the plot well thought out. The characters are well written, but something falls short in the climax of the story.
I purchased this as part of a multi novella bundle this author offered called LADIES, LOVE AND MYSTERIES.
It took me awhile to feel a connection to the H/h. He wanted a wife, without feelings being involved because he wanted a different marriage than his parents had. The h didn’t like the H because he came across as arrogant. So most of the story is based on this.
No kisses, clean story, little on romance, more on a mystery why the H gets sick when he is close to the h. Like many others I thought of 3 possible villains.
Some suspense, no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, little on romance and no spice. (ljb)
the mystery plot was wonderful. Love the shadows
Not my favorite author but certainly readable.
Good story. I had a hard time having feelings for either the H or h however. Story seemed stilted and conversations were off. The conversations were from more of the “times” which may have added to it. Story line is good and you are always wanting to see a happy ending which I finally got.
I enjoyed it enough to place the rest of the series on my ”to get” list.
This was a light sweet historical book that I enjoyed. In the beginning of the book, I thought that it was the normal historical romance novel. Ohhhh no it wasn’t. Wham, as I read more of the love growing between Haddington and Marion, the book takes a sharp spin down the suspense lane of who done it. So awesome. Good friends, quick wit, a sweet romance and butting mama’s, this book has. Until next time My fellow readers. I recommend this book.
Lady Marion and Alex story is a entertaining read. The author has written a storyline with a bit of mystery and suspense. The characters are a good compliment to each other But will have.to work together to find their HEA.

A nice and readable book where 5 friends find out why Earl Haddington keeps getting sick when he is alone with Lady Marion. Where Lady Marion initially feels squeezed in a corner to enter into a courtship with the earl, she slowly but surely discovers feelings for him. The earl is attracted to Lady Marion but does not want to have feelings for fear that his marriage will be like that of his parents in which he has seen no warmth between them, while they said they were attracted to each other when they married.
The story is well structured and the strength and tenacity of Lady Marion makes both come together more. The mystery is brought out in a fun way in which various young women are given the space to solve this. And that in a period where women are not expected to function independently. The writer has tried to take the reader into an era where the language was different. Nice to get a piece of “old english”

An Intriguing Mystery
What is making the Earl of Haddington ill every time he attempts to court Marion? The mystery pulls the story along and I really wanted to know who was poisoning the Earl and trying to keep the two apart. The story did not go the way I was expecting, and that turned out to be a good thing. I can recommend this interesting Regency sweet romance.

Lady Marion’s father arranges with Lord Alexander Haddington to meet Marion with the hope that this meeting would result in Marriage. Marion wants to marry for love, Alexander is not interested in love, he wants a wife only for companionship. There is a mystery involved and as Marion and Alexander work together to solve this mystery an attraction develops and will they both get their wish? Will Love and companionship be the result? This is another fascinating and entertaining read by Joyce Alec.

3.5 star review:
A well written historical romance with nice storyline and plot. Characters are well described and defined. It is on the short side and I would have liked more depth to it. Sometimes it is rushed. The chemistry was not that easy to connect with but it is there. The characters both have to open up and let the past be just that. The mix of mystery, drama, romance, attraction and twists makes it a nice read.
Sweet story and recommendable.
I’ve read several books written by Joyce Alec; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

Wonderfully written storyline with characters that were written with such great detail and depth that I was totally captivated throughout the entire book!
Clean read
Very cute clean story of how an arranged meeting leads to love. Lady Marion’s father arranges for her to meet Lord Haddington in hopes of marriage. At first Lady Marion was having not of it’s they both had a different opinion of what marriage should be. Lord Haddington thought he wanted an emotionally detached marriage due to his assumptions concerning his parents marriage. Thankfully lady Marion realizes her affection for him and due to her persistence and new information coming to light she wins her man. And don’t forget the mystery her friends were so clever. I hope there will be more mysteries to solve. At time I found the characters to be a bit stiff and melodramatic. But once again Joyce Alec has provided a very entertaining read.
A well written story with a very good storyline it is part of the Ladies, Love, and Mysteries series. I did not see that person being the one that was causing the trouble. I enjoyed reading Lady Marion and Alexander, the Earl of Haddington’s story, and will be looking for the next book in this series. Lady Marion could not figure why her mother was so adamant that she change the gown she had chosen to wear. Lady Audley even suggested she wear last year’s gown with the worn lace and older style. Yet she couldn’t get an answer from her as to why, unless she just wanted to force her daughter to bend to her will – which would not happen. She despised manipulation. Her mother’s eyes held anger and irritation. So instead of eager anticipation about the ball, Marion was tense and angry herself. It was better when her father joined them and complimented the gown – until he then told her he had chosen a few men for her to meet; it had all been “arranged”. She would not have freedom of choice as she had expected. Her father, being an Earl, did not want men seeking her for her dowry and he was a better judge of that than she would be. They were wealthy gentlemen with titles from good families. But the triumphant look on her mother’s face made her ill.
Alexander, the Earl of Haddington, was frustrated, waiting for his mother who had kept him waiting for a half hour already while she fussed with jewelry or whatever else she thought about. They were already late. He thought of his deceased father, Lord Haddington, who had died 18 months ago after becoming ill with nothing that could be done about it. His mother had shown no sadness at his death. Though she claimed to love his father, it made Alexander decide not to marry for affection if that was how little such a loss would affect his own wife. He would hold back his own feelings always and that way love could not fade with time. An arranged marriage for companionship with no emotion would meet his needs just perfectly.
With Alexander looking for a wife, his mother wishes him to court the daughter of her friend, Lady Dalton. Alexander, however, is attracted to Lady Marion and wants to pursue her instead. Similarly, Marion’s mother wants her to marry the son of one of her friends! Neither Alexander nor Marion are interested in those decisions being made for them. Strangely, however, when Alexander attempts to court Marion, he becomes ill in her presence and must step away – and yet not always, as when they happen to meet by chance. Is someone trying to keep them apart deliberately? Why? Is Marion being kept from Alexander? Or Alexander being kept from Marion? How can they discover how this is being accomplished and who could be interfering with them?
I loved this story line and the intriguing little mystery that carries the reader along to a wonderful conclusion. The characters aren’t completely like the cookie-cutter ones we normally see. Marion was much stronger and more stubborn than the usual young woman of that time. And Alexander had a very skewed impression of what made the perfect marriage, as if lack of emotion would make a marriage stronger and enduring. Grab your copy and see if they can unravel this mystery and perhaps find a HEA they can both enjoy.
Lady Marion and Lord Alexander Haddington’s mothers try to manipulate them into marrying the spouses they want, which at first is not each other. Alexander is infatuated with Lady Marion, but he doesn’t really know her when he decides he’s going to marry her. Lady Marion’s father had told he would choose her husband and she thinks that man is Alexander so she fights the courtship. But he keeps getting sick around her and the mystery is what is causing it. I wouldn’t have been so forgiving when I found out the truth.
I loved this wonderful regency romance. Fabulous characters and storyline. I loved the brilliance of the lead female who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and share her thoughts. I loved the team work in solving the mystery. I highly recommend this book! Happy reading!
