A tragic case of arson sends Sarah into hiding to escape the terrible fate of her family. She works as a common laborer, and is safe for thirteen years, until she receives an ominous note. Despite her disguise, the killer has caught up with her, and she is once again in danger from a man determined to silence all echoes from the past.
William, an inquiry agent, is consumed with curiosity when he … curiosity when he meets Sarah and hears about her case. And one look into her gray eyes has him hooked. Even though the evidence is scanty after so many years, he vows to assist her, unaware how events will challenge him both as a man of honor and as an investigator.
When a second attempt is made on Sarah’s life, William is forced to follow a treacherous path through the twisted, dark past. And his growing attraction to the independent woman proves just as dangerous. He needs a clear head to sift through the ashes of the old tragedy, with its hints of corruption reaching into the highest levels of Society. Above all, he must protect Sarah, regardless of personal cost.
Love must find a way to bring the two together and thwart a desperate arsonist, or the last survivor of the long-ago fire will die.

great
Great book and a fast read.
Good read
Love this author continues to build and reveal elements of previous stories in each release of the series. You grow to love the family more with each book.
Romantic story with an interesting storyline for the heroine!
After reading “A Lady in Hiding”, I immediately read the rest of the Archer Family series….all were diverting and original and well worth the time.
Typical characters and story line.
I love this author and how she has mystery with the romance.
This is the second Archer family book I’ve read. The characters are very likable and their willingness to go against society makes the books fun. Good character development and some plot twists keep it lively.
Enjoyed every page, couldn’t put it down
I really love surprise endings and this definitely has one.
The novel has an excellent and unusual story line populated by unusual and fully developed characters. This is so much more the average Recency romance it almost deserves its own genre. The Audible narrator has a wonderful accent and vocal range broad enough for all voices: female, male, poor, posh, smart and stupid. No graphic sex for a change, but lots of passionate kisses.
I liked.the mystery. Makes for a more interesting read. The plot was a bit predictable, but enough twists and turns to keep you reading to the end.
excellent read!!
I found the story to be a delightful read.
a light, entertaining period book with a few twists. I found it enjoyable and a great escape . . . something to take me away from this century!
I love all Amy Corwin’s books. Especially that she does not write pornography masquerading as “romance.” Well written, clever, funny, and a great ending!
A very readable book – highly recommended for those who enjoy the historical romance genre. The characters feel real and you feel involved in their predicaments and then in the resolution. Good historical background, well-researched without being stuffy. Painless, pleasurable way to learn a bit of the period this was written about!
