A totally different type of Regency, much darker than other Regency Romance stories.
I’m new to Ms. Eliza McGrey and I was given a copy of A Lady in Danger; which I really enjoyed the adventure. Although, I was left with many remaining questions on what happened to several the characters; it has no real ending. I do hope that the story will continue, I look forward to finding some of the missing answers. Awesome job, thank you for sharing this little guy with me and your readers. Highly recommended this delightful read and I have given the author and A Lady in Danger a 4-star rating.

A murder at the start that turned into a captivating mystery, was well written and well thought out. This was an ARC from the author and my honest opinion
This is the first book I have read by Eliza McGrey . I wish I could give it 3 1/2 stars.
The book opens with a murder of a young women who loved and trusted her fiancee who turned out to kill her. The book works thru other young lady, Maryanne. She is told by her Mother and stepfather that she is to marry a war hero and a wealthy man and will be a good match. He is Colonel Richard Nash, and old enough to be her father!! But she knows there is nothing she can do about it.
She is sure there is something wrong with her new house, the help never look her at her when speaking, there are rooms she is not permitted to see, and her new husband has his own rooms and she has her’s. He is gone a lot and doesn’t want to talk about his work or himself but instead wants to know everything she does or likes. She is not allowed to be in his unless he is there.
When she lost her father as a young girl and her mother turned away from her she lost herself in reading all kinds of books. As she got older she started writing her own suspense stories and tired to get published.
As she is trying to make sense of her new life she meets other gentleman, Mr Henry Watson who
helps her understand why the Colonel has so many secrets. They work together to get answers.
I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting, only to find it has no real ending ! I was left with many remaining question on what happened to a number of the characters.
I don’t like cliff hangers, and wish author’s would disclose this so those of us who don’t want to read a series would not waste our time reading the book.
If you don’t mind waiting to find out what happens till the next book, this was a very good story till the non-end.
Lady Maryanne’s stepfather had given numerous balls trying marry Maryanne off. He received an offer for her hand in marriage by gentleman called Col. Richard Nash; he was a strange man and had numerous rules which she expected her to follow. She met a young gentleman who claimed to be her cousin or Lord Jonathan. He explained to her that his sister had been engaged to Col. Nash and had disappeared three weeks before he became engaged to her. He said he knew his sister was dead and he wanted to get Col. Nash for killing his sister, selling secrets to the French, and killing some of his own men when they did not obey his orders. To find out what happens and whether everyone makes it out alive you must read the book. It’s a good book…

Their were plots twists and turns! Johnathan was certainly not who you think he is! Read and turn the pages! Intriguing!
This is not really a romance but is a page turner of intrigue and mystery. I totally enjoyed it. I did find the ending a little out of whack. If you have the *villein and your kin’s corpse *, why not call authorities at that time. I received this story as an ARC for an honest review.
This was an unusual plot line but stalls out in the writing at times. The main characters are well written and fleshed out nicely. Some minor characters could have used a little more attention like the housekeeper. It was an easy entertaining read all in all.

Lady Maryanne is forced into an unwanted marriage by her step father and her mother. She knows nothing of the lord Nash. Just that he was a retired Colonel from the army and was a very private person. As the story goes on, she receives a visit from a man, claiming to be someone who she knows, so she goes along with it at first. Eventually she learns why he was there and it was because Lord Nash was believed to be a dangerous man. As the story goes on, the truth is revealed in time and things get real scary quickly for Maryanne and her new love, who helps her discover the truth about her husband. This was my first Regency romantic suspense and it was really good! I definitely was kept on my toes from the middle of the story, until the end. Another great book by Eliza McGrey!

Secrecy and Intrigue
This book perked up my curious mind. Well-written, stable-paced, action-packed story and was woven with mystery, suspense and intrigue that will keep you to your toes reading through till the end. The end is not the end, and I have to warn you, cause it’s a cliffhanger. The characters were flawlessly great, and they will keep you guessing. How I wish the next book was already available so I can know the final conclusion.

Allow a day for this PG-13 tale of a trophy bride, given to a war hero with her minimal consent, which has more than one mystery involved.

At 1 a.m. the woman walked into the black alley, frightened at being here at this hour alone. But as she walked, she saw three men appear at the other end, one whom she recognized at once. He stepped forward and asked if she had done everything as he asked. She said that she had. Then he embraced her, kissed her, and she felt a burning in her belly – a burning that suddenly turned to pain. She stepped back and saw the dagger and her blood spilling down her dress. When she died, the other two men carried her body to another location as he poured alcohol over the bloody area to wash her blood away.
Lady Maryanne was escorted to breakfast by Mr. Barrow, the family butler. Her mother and step-father had at last found a husband for her, although that fact did not thrill her. Her betrothed was to be Colonel Richard Nash, a man as old as her father was! He was a respected man of high ranking in the government, but Lady Maryanne was unimpressed.
The day of their wedding came, and it took less than an hour to be married – after which her new husband went to a remote office on business. Lady Maryanne went to his home and the terribly grouchy and unfriendly head housekeeper, Mrs. Brian, showed her to her room, giving her a ton of strict rules she must follow. She was to enter no room she was not expressly told to enter, including her husband’s private quarters! He married only so he would have someone to come home to so, when he came home, she was to have dinner and tea with him but not bother him with her own petty worries. She felt like nothing more than another staff member! Something just didn’t feel right about all this and she shivered at the strong sense of foreboding.
Lady Maryanne wandered the house, getting to know her way around. But she found herself on the 4th floor and recognized nothing. There were shadows all the way down the hall. Her maid came up behind her and told her these were the Colonel’s private quarters and she was not permitted to be there. She returned to her room to dress for dinner, and her maid gave her a lovely pearl necklace to wear – a gift from her husband. When she joined him in the drawing room and looked into his eyes, there was no warmth in them, no intimacy. And after 6 months of married, she admitted that she hardly knew her husband at all. Even the staff kept her at a distance, despite her attempts to establish a rapport with them.
One day a message came from Lord Jonathon, her best friend from childhood. He wanted to come visit her since he was in London. Lady Maryanne had been so bored with not being allowed out of the house that this news was most exciting! She rushed into the parlor and finally Mrs. Brian opened the door to tell her Lord Jonathon was here. But the man standing there was NOT Jonathon?! He called her ‘cousin’ and threw his arms around her, whispering for her to go along with it! When she sent Mrs. Brian off to get some honey cakes, she asked the stranger what was going on. He had come there to warn her of serious danger from the Colonel! Her life may be at stake! How could she stay safe until the situation could be sorted out and resolved?
This book is going to hold the reader’s attention from start to finish! It is a fast-moving, action-packed adventure that starts with a bang and doesn’t let up on the tension. The action is gripping and the characters are compelling. The story line draws the reader in with its intriguing plot and sense of danger – it’s just like being right there! Highly recommended!
